I spent a morning shooting this combo and wow what a game change it is in terms of focusing system and portability. The hand held video was also fantastic. I think this is a very capable combo for bird and wildlife photography even if you do not have a tripod.

Thanks for watching. Was waiting for the z6III but then saw the price was a few hundred dollars than the z8 so I think that should be my next camera.

@@forced_perspective Absolutely, I have a Z6ii and a Z8. The 6ii is a great camera, beautiful 24 mp files but the tracking is not so good. OK with old style panning but the processors aren't powerful enough for the AI AF modules. The Z 8 is tremendous, I've been shooting Nikon for 50 years and it's by far the best camera I've ever owned. I thought of upgrading 6ii for a 6iii but, as you say , one can get deals on the Z8 for little more. I paid less than the UK Z6iii price when in Hong Kong for my Z8. Now....upgrade to a 6iii, nice and light , fab high ISO, or a second Z8..... 🤔🤔🤔.. Haha, we're so lucky we can have these choices. Go for the Z 8 it's much more powerful than the 6iii... Perfect thanks for the info Robert. You are correct. We are lucky to be able to make such choices. Z8 coming soon hahaha. Was flirting with some canons tried the R5 and R6 II and even though they track really well, I just dot love the ergonomics so I think I'll stay with Nikon. For familiarity and also they are not that far behind the other brands now.

@@forced_perspective Yes the Sony and Canon AF is probably a little better at acquiring lock on in some circumstances but buffer, ergonomics, lens choice for wildlife and portraiture are sublime too... That's why I've stayed with Nikon all these years. In high tech, all the companies play catch up now and again but tbh with mirrorless cameras all 3 main brands are good. I'm not a video guy, a bit old but learning, but the Z8 /9 has the best highend specs for video now. Enjoy your Z 8.😊

Be patient James. I am waiting for the Z6iii also. Something is coming soon. The Z8 will always be there if not. That Z8 will make those video's pop......You got some good video with it.

James, excellent images and footage, very stable footage for handheld! That is one nice setup! Would be very enticing to get that exact combo. You kinda ended the video rather abruptly. Guess the squirrel did jump on up. 😂

My son in law has several nice mirrorless lenses I could borrow but no 600 so……guess I’ll stick with what I have too for now. The $$$& always seems to be a problem. 😎

Great video! But, I'm cringing as you pivot that heavy lens up by tilting the camera. I fear the flange will rip off the camera.

After shooting the Nikon D810 for almost a decade, I went mirrorless 5 months ago with the Z8. I got sick of waiting for a Z7 iii. I'm super happy with the Z8 and the few S-line lenses that I started with. I prefer the new Z-mount glass over adapting my old lenses, though it's hard on the wallet to replace many of my older Nikon D lenses, which won't autofocus on the Z cameras. G-mount glass works fine on the adapter, but the new lenses, to me, are just way better. I got the Nikkor 100-400 and 1.4 TC for landscapes cuz that's my main genre, but the Z8 did something unexpected for me-I started shooting birds for the first time ever! That has been a lot of fun.

That's so cool. Yeah I'm with you on the cost of a new body and the z mount lenses especially the s line ones. I can only wish. I did see that canon honestly has the most affordable bang for your buck but then I basically gotta switch out all my glass. Thinking of taking a loss and liquidating it all. But we will see

@@forced_perspective As for switching out your glass, you'll actually end up doing that anyway. The jump to mirrorless provides you with an opportunity to switch brands if you want. When I looked as what was on offer in November, I stuck with Nikon because as a landscape photographer, I wanted the 45 megapixels. I love the quality and ability to crop at will in post. I trust Nikon RAW files for the colors that I like to shoot.

That viewfinder... honestly I think EVF is totally a different animal and I will always prefer an optical one. Just that the mirrorless focusing system is so good and the hit rate is so high. I didn't even have the pre capture feature on. I think the photography game has really changed now with all the new technology.
