The funny thing is I was procrastinating on a project by watching you all work on a project to procrastinate working on the house. I am honored just to be a part of the process. Thank you.
This is not procrastination. It is the opposite. It's taking a bummer situation and turning it into laughter, light (!) and inspiration to fuel another year of housebuilding! Way to go, Laura!
I forgot how beautiful the staircase in your house was. Really enjoyed the tiny house series. Looking forward to your genius creativity with the house.
Love it all. Home reno can actually traumatize you, so knowing how to recover from trauma can be very helpful. Also, for planning, I've found writing each step on pieces of paper, so they be moved around to get the correct order is helpful.
I think Laura is still traumatized by the ants. Did you see the look on her face when she thought she saw an ant?, poor thing. I hope the ants don't come back...if they do she needs to get ant and roach powder...
“Home reno can actually traumatize you…” After three whole house renovations in four years, I think this might explain a lot about my brain right now. 😆
Honestly? It was really good to see the frustration and difficulty re-starting. I am waking my shop back up after the winter, and there are a couple half done projects that I am sorta dreading :p
Procrastination is sometimes more about feeling content than about feeling forced to comply. Your time, your rules. We have all felt what you feel. Be good to yourself. This does NOT hinder your creativity...it increases it. You rock! 💕
It makes so much sense that you might be struggling with starting up the house again. Thank you for showing up with your whole self including your struggles.❤
I love this video. Where else do you see a real depiction of that experience of being overwhelmed by your favorite project, losing all momentum (and some faith), and then tackling the getting back into it. I love that Laura and her channel showcases this, it's actually inspiring without being forced. Thank you for sharing! Hi from DK
Same thing happened to me lately, I'm building a tiny house and at this point I was just tired and thinking of all the things I had to do made me anxious, because I wanted to do everything at the same time and I couldn't rest because all these things were on my head. I finally just let go on the problems on the inside of the house I couldn't resolve and decided to let my brain rest while doing the outside hoping after some times I'll be ready again to solve these inside problems. It was like a knot in my brain and letting go and give myself some time untied it. Although I put some order in my head and made things step by step even if was little step. Don't give yourself so much pressure, take the time you need, all of this is a marathon not a sprint. Great built requires great patience.
I get so much done around my house when I am procrastinating from doing something else, but my procrastination accomplishments are nothing as cool as this. #procrastionpriorities, #lollipopsandwiches, #friendswithsandwiches ...totally here for this!
Oh gosh this is so relatable, from my own self build house journey! In fact it's almost a bit triggering to watch 😂 Number 1 rule of self build / refurb is to look after your mental and physical well-being. One day you'll be in the house, warm and cosy, and so proud of what you've done (and so freaking relieved that it's over!).
I would go with underfloor heating, it runs at a lower temperature than central heating, i know in Germany you are phasing out oil and gas heating, so an air source heat pump might be the best option Underfloor heating should be less damaging to the wooden structure because it runs cooler, you don't have a hot radiator next to it Toastie posicles ? awesome idea, put a stick in each half (one at side, one at front of each) to reduce weight, less risk if falling off ;)
Spring has finally sprung! Vorsprung durch Sonnenschein, you got this!! Can't wait to see Haus Lieselotte in her finest glory, but I'm equally excited to watch the steps you take to get there. Meanwhile I'm so glad you have your tiny house to escape to. It must be so nice to just curl up in there and switch off, leaving all the crazy shiz outside.
What you do makes ME smile, too. This whole thing started with a toaster, and turned out into an eclectic out-of-this world invention. The bread on stick is genius!
What a wonderful world you have made for yourself. Fun, practical and entertaining. So don't let the obstacles get in your way! Love watching. You, Zyla and Goetz need to do more together, those shows rock .
„It will be good, it will be good, i just need to get back into it!" Vielen Dank. Das ist so wertvoll. Alles Gute und viel Kraft. Lieber Gruß, Ulrich
One step at a time. Concentrate on one small job, complete that and move to the next. That way a whole house is built in ‘bite-sized-pieces’. Love your work 👍
You know you always need to refresh yourself with the quirky things. Giving yourself a little time to ruminate on next steps with Lise Lotte is time well spent. We’re all with you!
When you first walked in, my heart skipped a beat. I was once again in ❤️ love. I was just thinking how beautiful it will be. The really hard work has been found and has been started to be fixed. I can see it now... by the end of this season will be closed in and working on the ins❤. You could use a couple wood stoves😊 for heat!
I really appreciate how you talked through your mindset, how you motivated yourself into getting started again, how you needed to take some first steps to rebuild momentum. I needed to see that so that I can start getting unstuck, myself.
It's a very cool house, was very glad to see it again! But as my father used to say: It's so nice watching other people work 😉 Der Treppenaufgang mit dem Geländer und dem Fliesenboden im EG ist sooo schön!!
After just 1 single project in our home quickly turning into 8 which ate into our entire budget, I've got a whole year to procrastinate before the next house project. Half dreading it, half excited. I feel your pain, Laura.
In your last video you mentioned that small house living has been you experience in the past years. I can understand why Lise Lotta may be huge and overwhelming. However, the work you are doing on the house is really amazing. I know you will be so happy when it is finished.
I sympathize with your feelings Laura. I had an extremely difficult and stressful experience with my flat which left me so stressed I even ended up with heart problems. Now it's all done and I live there, and for a while I didn't feel good in the space due to all the anxiety that I had accumulated about this place, but now I'm comfortable and things are good. It's okay to take things slow. ♥
I love you and Felix as a team. The two of you are so funny and fun😂❤. Your house is going to be so beautiful when it is finished. Just think how amazing it will feel once you get to move in. ❤
Thank you guys for the video. It must be challenging to consistently put out these videos but I appreciate you. I have my own projects that I procrastinate on and it's nice to know others do, too. Have a great week!
My advice for trying to get back into a really big job like this... host a (BYO plate) BBQ there, and invite as many friends and family as possible, and have a working bee, or if there aren't things they can help with yet, have a sign up calendar, for days they are happy to come and help -- then if they are coming in two weeks, you've got a deadline, which always gets me motivated -- and if there is a steady stream of friendly helpers coming, it will feel like fun instead of drudgery. -- you've got this!
The toastie on a stick is either brilliance or madness ~ I’ve had these similarly brilliant/weird ideas when procrastinating and overwhelmed and I love seeing them made reality. It’s much better than crying (which is what I end up doing on those days :P)
That was awesome!! I love how your brain works, great job!! My favorite boss would say, when I procrastinated or just didn’t want to do something, “Put your big girl pants on!” …. Love that saying and sometimes its a great motivator!!😊😊😊
Procrastinating? Naah. Nothing wrong with a one-day project ❤ Plus a portable, independently-powered lunch station sounds like a great idea for a worksite. Suggest attaching an umbrella for when it rains, cos... sammiches 😊❤
I don't know why I'm so invested in that one house. I was excited for it to start again and I'm just waiting for that refinished door to get put back in. I'm not trying to rush things. Just I'm just excited.
Having done a full house restoration, a 3 hour drive from home, while building and growing a business,,,, I think the overriding philosophy is BIGHT OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW...AND CHEW LIKE BUGGERY! I love that little house.
Love the popsicle stick idea. Perfect for a build environment too as you can't always keep your hands clean and this way you don't have to. So glad that I found your channel, I always have a good chuckle watching your video's and I love not only how functional everything you make is, but also how nice you make it look at the end of the day. Thanks so much.
My dog, Shep, says that the first version of the cheese toastie on a stick is far better. He wants me to make some tomorrow and can't wait for them to fall on the floor. The 3 second rule doesn't apply as he will get to them first.
hi laura! I have the very same problem when facing something overwhelming I tend to have cold feet. one advise that can help : do something very easy and very fast the first day. take out everything you need and let it at hand reach. the day after it will be easier as you already know what to do and your stuffs are ready to be used. separate big tasks in little steps and focus on one step at the time. this being said, you still have to face it whole the first day. be strong!
Toast am Stil 🤩🤩🤩 I Love it!! Best procrastination ever! Liebe Grüße von einer Holländerin in Österreich😅
Well on April 19th it was Saint Expeditus. Patron saint of urgent causes, schoolchildren, businessmen, driver’s licence applicants AND against procrastination ! 😁
That was such a fun procrastination project. Perhaps dipping the popsicle stick into something syrupy like a jar of caramelised onions might act as a food glue to help form a better seal 🤔. 22 yrs ago I undertook the reno of an old two-storey stone cottage (97 sq m) with no skills, no teachers, no help, no RU-vid, little money, a full-time job and a 5yr old daughter. After demo and first-fix my daughter and I moved in to one room and for one year we slept on airbeds on the floor and cooked in a microwave. With one DIY book I approached the project room-by-room to bring each to a finish starting at the top and working down to minimise dust and disruption. It took a couple of years to get 80% complete and I procrastinated another year before getting the final 20% 'finished'. Outside was a mess for very many years and only got it's first repaint last year. But I raised my daughter and she is now a doctor who knows how to drive a digger, mix concrete and chizel timber! I am now planning small projects outside to re use the leftover materials and junk I accumulated in my shed - but maybe not today....perhaps tomorrow 😂 www.ted.com/talks/tim_urban_inside_the_mind_of_a_master_procrastinator/comments
I would like to say something to you and I hope I don't get banned.: I love you. Not in a creepy way but I love your honesty, your quirkiness, your creative nature, your look, ect,ect ect... When I grow up I wanna be just like you, but a man. I mean, I am a man but.. ANYWAY. yeah. Over the years you have proven how much you care not only about your projects but about your content and your fans. So glad you are who you are and sharing yourself with us.
That must be the most over engineered toaster ever. But what a way to spend a few hours. Now you have cheered yourself up you can take on the big house. Good luck
Life is suprising us every day…keep on doing the things that make you smile! As you said, you are fortunate to be able doing all this creative stuff…so, keep on smiling☺️
This looks so good! The house makes you anxious, so it's ok to postpone it a little bit. If it's worth something I like the tiny stuff better. Be happy. 😊
Lights are cool to show you the sandwiches are done but I did something similar using a relay and Sonoff Mini R2, then set it to push notifications to my watch via my smart phone. That way I don't need to keep looking for the light to change. The push notification is for device status change. You can also use a Smart Things Siren. My home is older and smarter than I am with 80+ voice controlled things in a 90 year old home. I know how you feel when it comes to tackling jobs on your home, when it get to the point of actually doing the work. I tend to plan a lot, and stock up on all of the things I need to ge the job done, but procrastinate when it comes time to actually start the work. One thing I consider is how changes will effect my cats. I like to go slow so they don't have too many changes all at once because cats are fragile and do not respond well to too much change all at once. Part of why we procrastinate is that once we get done with projects, we feel partly depressed when we don't have any more work to do, even though we also feel a satisfaction of completion.
Break the project down into small manageable chunks that you can complete quickly. Each time you complete a small project you will feel great as you are making positive progress. e.g. have a list of projects for each room from cleaning to completion.
Can't wait for the summer video in 2025 when it's warm, there's a barbeque outside the house, and we all remeniss about how it looked and all the troubles that now is gone. I can't wait!
For heating, not sure if it's made its way over there yet, however, you could look at installing infra-red panels behind your plastering. It heats up the objects in a room rather than the room itself. The human body would in that context be considered an object. Also, the rear of the panels act as a form of insulator to the outside walls too.
Instead of panels with these kinds of half-timbered houses when renovating it's more common in germany to do the same you'd do with floor heating - just a bunch of long pipes in the wall* that are heated(to a lower temp) by an air-water heat pump and then you plaster over them. It's pretty energy efficient and it can also be combined with these watercooled solar panels afaik. * You put them in the wall so you can have wooden floor boards for their aesthetic and warmth.
@@IzzyIkigai sounds like a pretty cool idea...only concern I may have is keeping the heat in the clay bricks immediately behind...I'd imagine they'd heat up quite a bit...but, I'd also imagine that they wouldn't retain that heat very well. That may lead into the requirement to fit rendered/insulated panels to the outside to lock in the heat....not too bad an idea to be fair...just gotta remember to not nail anything into the wall once you've buried water pipes into it 😅
This is a perfect lunch station to go with your DJ booth. That way the music doesn’t have to stop for a lunch break. Btw…because of you I bought six aluminum cases this week.
Oh I was hoping you would work on the bar, and police the area around it, declutter. I'm w/u on the BIG house, its HUGE. Looking at it again, way way cool. You create the coolest.
Still Love Love Love your video's. Here in the US we make grilled cheese we butter the outside add cheese inside add a little mustard and maybe ham and grill. Keep up the good work.
