Many of these over the top effects were fairly prominent with a lot of bands during this period. But Seikima-II didn't exactly "rip off" anyone else as much as create their own over the top image much of which is influenced by the Japanese Kabuki theatrical style. Anything else you see in an early video like this is merely a product of the 80's.
@@Treychik The problem is, this doesn't look like kabuki. I've seen kabuki and this is not all that similar lol. Seikima-II's image looks like KISS's interpretation of kabuki. (The star designs, the stylized dual line "whiskers," etc). Come on man. They're a good band but you're in denial if you think Kiss wasn't a visual influence.
@sdjslkdjlsskldjslkdjsl8262 bruh, that does have that kabuki visual looks coming from me that did research into japan history for years. Just because they look and sound like KISS doesn't mean its a rippoff. Next you'll tell me X Japan is a KISS rip-off. So Yeah, take the L before the fans come after you with pitch forks. Good day😊
BigTimeChanges is my most favourite Seikimatsu album, and Ace Shimizu is my most favourite guitarist of them as well. The last song called Angel Smile in this album, Ace Shimizu is on vocal without Demon, is so beautiful.- - - Their Japanese Lyrics sense is so great,"mouchou tsurushite kusokurae" can't be really translated into English without losing the original sense & smell, I suppose. And, thanks so much for uploading this!
I agree, I am a KISS fan myself and I have also seen similarities between the two. The inspiration from kabuki i reffered to mainly relates to their makeup since KISS also very obviously were inspired by that style themselves. It is also a fact that Demon himself has stated in an interview with Kyoji Yamamoto, that " he was never very much into KISS" so it is also possible that the concept behind their personas could have been due to Damian Hamada's inspiration from such bands as KISS.
Seikima-II pronouced "Saykeemas" or "Seikimatsu" in Japanese basically translates to "The End of The Century". This is the bands theme and part of what they call the "prophecy" which they are destined to disband in 1999 ending their earth conquest.
RU-vid music suggestions based on my playlist of JP rock and metal brought me here got the DMC vibes loved it did hyperfixation research and well one new favorite band
@milkjamjuice yes they played at a con and it was the best concert ever! There weren't too many people there but enough to fill up the ballroom in the hotel it was held at. But since it was their first real American concert it's hard to find a bigger place even if it was for a band as big as they are.
Gracias.
Seikima-II are one of Japan's legendary heavy metal bands. Because they are a Japanese band, their style and image is most likely derived from Japanese kabuki style theatre. KISS most likely also took inspiration from this style as well, thus possibly contributing to their immense popularity in Japan. Many comparisons have been made, but Seikima-II alone are a very unique band.
But Seikima-II's image is full of things you see in KISS's image and not in kabuki. (The star designs, etc.) So the idea kabuki alone is what influenced their image is incredibly unlikely
Yes, they disbanded on December 12th, 1999 at 23:59:59. Their last concert was called THE BLACK MASS FINAL 3 NIGHTS or The Ultimate Black Mass. Since then the band had a short limited time reunion including original guitarist Jail O'hashi. Two different lives were held in late December of 2005 for their 20th anniversary. After this the band has remained inactive but all members currently have active and successful solo careers.
Oh Come on!? E-Z-O had a checkerboard floor in the "Flashback Heart Attack" vid, and they also had a song called "Big Changes". They basically looked exactly like these guys too, only better.

@Dkogure Looking back on my previous comment, I guess I found Seikima-II a little hard to process, and take seriously. The current truth is that I LOVE this band, and this is probably my favorite song of theirs.
@HawkBasham Whether some of the members were influenced by KISS is a possibility, but speaking for Demon Kogure, the vocalist, he once mentioned in an interview that he was never a fan of KISS in general. Musically, their influences were most likely European heavy metal and hard rock bands. Certain confirmed ones would be the likes of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Deep Purple for example. The NWOBHM scene was mostly likely another strong influence.
In my opinion, as far as related to rock music, they pick from everywhere up (as Deep Purple did), but the big difference is that they have created (maybe it is Demon work) a whole universe and a story that let them show incredible shows/performances that the rock audience has never seen before. Every other rock group, now, seems to be boring, compared to them, and their musical skills are on top too. Probably, the best rock band ever.
