Instead of SCH 40 PVC, I used SDR 35 sewer pipe, will save some money. List: SDR 35 - 4" pipe, sanitary tee, cap; SCH 40 - 4" test cap (ie Sioux Chief Hard Hat - not knockout, fits over bottom of tee), 3" to 2" reducer, 2" pipe. I also did not epoxy the reducer inside the tee - it fit snugly and I didn't feel that it needed it.

Great tip for folks who would like to save some money and may not need the heavy duty option. I used sch 40 because I did not want to ever make a replacement for the rest of my life.

@@Liberty_DIY also a heavy body PVC cement would have been at least as good as that nasty epoxy lol

Excellent video. I came across your video a long time ago and even purchased the required materials. I hope I can find them. Anyway, I forgot how to put it together and was searching RU-vid. I remembered you had put out a great video on this and finally came across it this morning. I knew when I started to watch it that it was the one. Having said all that, I can now assemble it and put it to use. Thanks again, Shipmate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Just watched the construction of the PVC chicken grit feeder. Excellent work sir. From one southerner to another, way to go!!!

Just a note. It is not necessary to glue it all together. You can screw it together . That makes it completely dissasembleable, (not sure that is a word) If you need to clean it. The glue is to make it water tight for plumbing under pressure. This is just to feed the chickens. Pretty sure that feed is not under pressure. I am not putting his method down at all just offering a different solution.

You are correct, screwing together is also a very good option.

Came across this video and thought the design goes beyond the usual, so I'm gonna try it. You gained a new subscriber from it. I'm curious what you feed your chickens in, if you don't mind sharing.

I used one of these to feed crushed oyster shells since they are considerably more expensive than regular chicken feed, and a second one for grit during the winter when they mostly stayed inside.

Instead of epoxy, just heat a nail and push it through the side at a couple spots. Even the melted plastic will fuse the pieces.

That is an awesome way to do it if epoxy is not an option. Thanks for sharing

Brilliant!, how many chicks to a feeder?
@Liberty_DIY
@Liberty_DIY 11 месяцев назад
I had 75, but I was using 2 of these to give them oyster shells and sand grit so these were not their primary feeder. As a primary feeder for grain, I would imagine this would be good for up to 5 birds or so.

Wouldn't it be easier to glue the 2inch piece on before inserting the adapter?

very possible, might try that next time

I saw a reddit post recently with the same exact feeder design and the feed got stuck in the funnel part, the chicken pecked the feed and it all came down and smothered the chicken. like wtf. not sure if its a freak accident or what

huge design fail. my chickens emptied it all over the ground in two days. so saying they cant waste anything its like you never even tried it!
@PygmyBeardie
@PygmyBeardie Год назад
we had to adjust the length of the output so that they had to stick their heads further in. but we used 3"PVC without a reducer in it.
@robertseeley1251
@robertseeley1251 Год назад
@PygmyBeardie yep same but did not work. You have to glue the half Cresent on to the front or this feeder is complete garbage

@@PygmyBeardie😢 what about extending the inner 2" pipe down farther?
@robertseeley1251

No difference. They still shoot it our all over the ground. 4 pounds wasted in a week. Not eaten. Buddy is lying abiut not seeing any on the ground. @TheRainHarvester

@robertseeley1251 I put a rubber farm pan under my feeder. My chickens intentionally drag out the feed looking for their favorite bits. Every couple days I have to dump it back in the feeder.
