Hey y'all,
The wonderful thing about using PVC to build for your bird means that you can completely customize whatever you are building to fit your needs. While I absolutely love small tabletop stands, sometimes I want something that can help keep my bird entertained as well. If you are travelling or just interacting with your bird in a different room of the house, it may be too cumbersome to move an entire play stand around. This small activity stand gives you more options than a standard training stand, but is still small and lightweight (and easy to move)! This tutorial walks you through the exact cuts and all the steps to make this exact play stand.
As always, safety should be your main consideration whenever giving anything new to an animal. You want to make sure that the parts are sized appropriately, and made of materials that are safe for that animal. Remember to supervise an initial interaction with a new item, and remember that animals can still get into difficult situations with items they have had multiple times in the past.

I just watched this again and made a list of all of the ingredients. I just bought a PVC gym for my bird off of Etsy. Said that it is furniture grade PVC. Was in Home Depot and doesn't seem as though they have furniture grade. What type of PVC pipe should be used? Thank you.

Furniture grade is designed to support weight, so it is pretty strong. It’s also more aesthetically pleasing, since it can come in a variety of colors and doesn’t have the same amount of text printed down the pipe. Plumbing PVC is available at most hardware stores and is good (and cheaper) as long as you get the right kind. Schedule 40 is good for most parrots, but larger macaws and cockatoos may need schedule 80 (the number refers to the thickness of the pipe, a slight increase on the thickness can make a huge difference in the overall strength of the pipe). You want to avoid cell core or foam core pipe, it looks thicker but the construction means that it is very brittle and could break easily.

@@HiRedBird Thank you sooooo much for your reply and explanation. So for a cockatiel can be general PVC and just make sure schedule 40?

hi - just wondering if can use regular PVC that you get from Home Depot as long as schedule 40? My dad said PVC usually in plumbing area, etc. Thanks.

@@bonnierosenthal1593 Yes, it's a pipe plastic and will specifiy schedule 40. You can find it in any home improvement store in the plumbing section.
