A cheap home made PVC target stand that cost less than $20 to make. It's a great versatile target stand that can be made to fit any specific target of your choice. The best part is you can easily take this target stand apart for easy storage.
What you need to build one target stand:
6- 15" 1 1/2" PVC sticks to make the legs
4- 1 1/2" PVC tee's
1- 18.5" PVC crossmember. You can make this piece any length you want in order to fit the target of your choice.
2- 4 foot 1"x2" wood sticks for the supports.

the thing i love most about your design is that you can bring along different sized crossmembers (depending on the different widths of your targets) and interchange them so easily on the spot because nothing is glued in place. great simple idea. thanks for the vid.

Of all the PVC target stands out there, this one works, it's cheap, it's stable - and easy to make more stable, and the one cross member makes it more versatile and easier to adjust to fit different width targets. Good job!

I used most of this same design with a couple of modifications. Instead of the cross bar in the middle, I connect the two sides using the cross piece on the front bottom. I also drill out the firing strips to different heights depending on what kind of shooting I do. A great design. Thanks

I like this. Thank you. Looking at this, I cannot believe I was having so much trouble trying to conceive a target stand that could be easily built and replicated. Looking forward to putting one together, giving it a try.

Thank you for making this video, there are a lot of videos on making PVC target stands but this one is by far the easiest and cheapest. Cost me $14.58 out the door at Home depot & another $3.88 for a 4 pack of plastic (4") spring clamps for the 1x2 uprights. It stays together without any issues being unglued and that is even in 10 mph winds using weight on one of the legs, and I have used it at least 5 times at my outdoor gun club pistol range, the targets are hung 25 yards from the shooting station and it sucks having to lug everything around when you want to shoot closer...thank you for solving that dilemma for me!

Great video. I built 2 of these using all pvc. I did not put end caps on the bottom pipes because my shooting pit has really loose sand and on windy days I put sand in the bottom pipes to stabilize it. Easy peazy. It's strong enough to hang a 10" steel plate from it.

Went to Lowe's today to buy supplies to make one of these. The T's that Lowe's sells would not allow a 1x2 furring strip to be inserted. I had to buy 2" PVC and T's. I don't know if it's the stuff Lowe's sells or what, but there was no way it would stay together without gluing it together. I did leave the cross beam unglued so I could adjust the size if needed. Works very well. Thanks for the design.

It can blow over in the wind pretty easy. A good way to fix this, besides using sand bags or rocks, is to drill holes and stake stake it.

I use to drive stakes until I saw a guy use 1/2” x 10” lag bolts and an impact driver in the desert for tent stakes, I do this now, great hack!

Thanks for the video. Didn't like the heavy metal stands that are out there that require you to add on tall 1x's. This will be much better for transporting and storing. I'll just bring a small sand bag to set on the leg to help prevent it from tipping over (we get a bit of wind out here where I'm at). Thanks again!

If you have lots of spent lead bullets, use some to weigh the stand down in windy situations. Rebar pieces work too.

just came across this while looking for a simple pvc target stand that I can pack to/from the range. Question I have is since you shoot in the wide open yonder how does this work in windy conditions? you ever have to peg it in place to keep it from blowing over?

@RushRulesAll

I made one similar to this but it was a little more cumbersome than this one. I am going to make this design. I could see gluing the T's to the vertical legs as it doesn't add much length and would be less to have to put together.

Nice job. I love making stuff like this. I now have a weekend project. Thanks for the great idea. Do you staple the target to your wood batts??

Tutto Bene I cut cardboard and staple it to the wood, then staple the target to the cardboard. I use sheet targets though. If your targets are boards then yes you could staple it to the wood posts.

I made a mistake and got 1 1/4" pvc pipe, but it ended up being a great mistake, because the wood fits in the pipe with a perfect amount of tightness, and is almost at 6' height, because it can't go down past the t's , yet is tight to the point that it can't come out.

Instead of PVC, I suggest using ABS pipe -- the black sewer pipe. Being brittle, PVC shatters when hit. ABS can withstand hundreds of hits.
