While the launch of World Restructuring didn't go entirely as everyone expected, ArenaNet are back to clean up and make improvements - and PvP is getting a little love at the same time! So Anet just screwed over all those players in the OCX/SEA time zones because there is no dedicated third server grouping for that area. This issue can easily be solved by guild groups having guilds that run in those time zones instead of complaining about how all the maps are a solid color because they don't have coverage at those times.

As someone who loves pvp enough to have grinded out an entire legendary gear set from the mode...i just don't care at all about ATs... I'm a single player, i don't have the time to put a static team together and grind it for high level competition. Until they make it where i can solo queue into a match and ACTUALLY play against players approximately my level, instead of every single player online from Silver 1 to Legendary, then the mode will continue to be a miserable experience and prohibitive to new players and veteran players alike. Its not fun feeling like you have 0 ability to swing the outcome of a match, whether because you're playing with uncarryable dregs, or because youre playing againat a pair of top 10 players who are duo queued. The game mode itself is good but there's not enough people playing to make balanced match making. Give better rewards and give the option to stay in queue until players of my same rank are available. Id rather the queue NOT pop if youre gonna put me into a match thats THAT imbalanced. I have plenty of other stuff to grind in the open world that wasting 10min in an unwinnable match is literally not worth detracting from and just leads to burnout and frustration. I'm trying to productively grind pips towards my next piece and it taking 7-10 matches to complete a single chest is absurd and unbearable. I could be doing more productive things. Just leave me in queue until a proper match is filled.

Try cleaning up flame rams with just 1 or 2 people. They are much harder to destroy than all other siege. And the reason I quote this example is because zergs tend to ignore cleaning up siege and repairing walls because they're all about capping these days. So it's up to roamers a lot of the time to clean up siege and repair. I do wonder if these updates will change that behavior. However, I am happy with a lot of these WvW changes. Seems like they could've done this years ago already though.

I imagine they are focused on it now because of JW, the new expansion. We know you get warclaw as a mount for that expansion so maybe they are supporting wvw because new players will be joining to get the warclaw or something in the expansion will focus on wvw. Who knows? But the fact that they are choosing now to work on it makes me believe strongly the two are related.

PvP are saved?? Just some AT Changes, but no changes at all for MAIN Game mode (Ranked and Unranked). The only Changes wich are huge, is the WvW Changes.

I've been asking for duels forever, I do believe they would do wonders just by existing. Imagine a level 20 Timmy dueling another level 20 Timmy when they just start the game. It doesn't have to be competitive or fair/balanced just the ability to do so will deepen the understanding of their class and knowledge of other classes. They could experiement, understand combos, learn about cleanses, CC and stunbreaks, how might and quickness affect performance etc. And that's just dueling to learn.

You can do all that in guild hall arena though, and even spice things up with traps and obstacles if you wanted to as well.

@@ThiVasss Exactly!! My friend and I recently came back to the game and we spent a lot of time on the PvP arena dueling each other to test out builds and understand our classes. But everyone knows that arena is horrible for 1v1s

Really nice changes. Very welcomed. I agree with you.. The winner of matchups must be rewarded. I think some WvW skirmish tickets, mystic clovers & random assortments of loot will spice things up.

Yes! and I think it should scale based on the chest tiers you complete for that week. Certainly don't want people getting the same rewards for capping 1 camp all week.

so after years of saying they dont want to punish players for playing in their respective countries time zone they just backtracked on that and basically only NA/EU matters lmao. I get its a dead game mode and all but still unfortunate for those players regardless.

Seeing all the changes is really cool. I completly agree with Teapot that they are a good sign. I wanted to go into pvp for a longer time. The last time i went "tryhard" was in hot i think and now i have a big motivation to do it. Im probably not good enough for the tournaments but ill at least try it

😢 ALL downstates make them the SAME and fair. How are players to defend against big blob when wall will not rebuild until 50 percent.....seriously bad. Give some of the pugs a chance to have fun as well. I have been playing for over 10 years in wvw, and not having fun any longer in wvw.

I dont care at all about Victory Points and i think its the same with most of the wvw community. Actual problem is that either servers are dead or dominated completly by one server

It's clear that they are adding victory point changes to track how it balances win rates. They will then add changes to reward weekly wins. Rewards will come soon, but first they need to make sure it's balanced.

I think that the changes are pretty good, i feel there needs to be another stepping stone into spvp and wvw. Before we had edge of the mists that allowed pve players to have some kind of pseudo pve pvp game mode- id like to see that get revived even if its a flat pip/progress amount. And once people get baited by that, its like "oh the rewards are better in wvw, and its only a little different" type deal. They need a gateway drug to get non competitive players comfortable with competitive enviornments. Fat rewards will help certianly, but if they revived eotm i would be real coped up.

I honestly always felt that EotM should be turned into a place where boonballing zergs could have their fights. Since a lot of them don't care much about playing the tower defense aspect of the game and just want to do zerg v. zerg, then EotM is the perfect place for them. Give them incentives to play there, where it has its own rewards (a semi extra game-mode in itself in a way?). Pug groups used to train newer players to WvW have existed under the server system and if coordinated correctly with other groups (the roamers, fighting guilds/zergs, etc.), it works pretty well. My old server (RIP) did it where pug/training groups stay in BLs that don't have a lot of activity, and when a tougher enemy group comes into their map, they change places with the proper zerg if queues are a concern, stay and help with the fight, or leave to attack an enemy team's structure to help alleviate pressure. Now that many of us are thrown in random teams where this level of coordination is almost impossible sometimes, then something similar to your idea I think would work well for the purpose of training.

The reduced supply costs also have another effect I really find interesting. If you're doing a siege then it makes it paramount with the chan ged cost to control the supply camps.

My only wish for wvw after all the functional changes are done is that they re-texture the maps. All textures and lighting are starting to look very dated in wvw. Not worried about functional changes because it seems like they have a good understanding of the state of the game and what's needed. More concern is towards balance in wvw and the constant slaughterhouse it has been because of willbenders and thief builds in general in clouds or organized small scale. There were always builds like these but current state is much much more worse than ever before.

gotta half-aggree on the framerate-drops. There´s no problem with retexturing maps and making them look better (it even gives opportunity to make a few better visual indicators, especiallly on places where collision-boxes are a bit wonky (e.g. broken walls). The important factor is: it needs to be done in a way that doesn´t negatively impact the game performance. The absolute minimum is, that the game-performance stays the same, that´s the worst case. But it would be an opportunity to even increase the performance (even if just a little bit) if this comes alongside optimization (and game-optimization is a great tool to achieve both, a more pretty game AND better performance)

Tournaments are like the raiding of pvp. 1% of players participate in tournaments. This does nothing for the abysmal state of pvp.

Scoring in WvW doesn't matter if the rewards for being first are basically nothing. I hope they update the Tier 1 rewards to make it enticing for people to actually want to be in first place. Servers still throw matches to avoid Rallguma or to stay in a tier where the fights are balanced.

I wish for a wvw map that was huge or as big as desert borderland to allow players to kind of build their own bases with a new system just for it. And maybe having their destruction give out the points based on their size. Idk just something different after all these years

My issue is it doesn't " Save PvP" what would save pvp is banning multiboxing in pvp as well as sifting through player reports for known griefers and trolls selling for a win trade. This is what truly ruins pvp. Yet alone class balance issues. I think these changes in pvp are like a new Shiny Shiny distracting from what's behind the curtain 😮‍💨 but glad you mentioned it doesn't save pvp

they don´t need to ban multiboxing, because multiboxing IS ALREADY a bannable offense, UNLESS you are in a custom arena that specifically indicates that multiboxing is allowed. The bigger problem is, that reporting a player does (from what people say, i don´t really play sPvP) absolutely nothing.

If only weighted Victory Points had come to WvW 10 years ago when anyone gave a shit. It was suggested at the time. People were hyped for the first WvW season, people got really serious about it and really tried, but it turned out to be a joke. That mood has never come back.

I think it would be cool if the tournament of legends gave two separate titles. one you permanently unlock by having won it before. and one that's only active if you are the winner until the next legends tournament happens. so if you're a current winner you can display it

They need to consider adding a 30v30 or 50v50 pvp battleground map. This would also give wvw players who are playing through a dead time zone with their matchup another mass pvp gamemode.

they don´t even have to make a new map for that, because in theory, it already exists. It´s called "Edge of the Mists". It even operates in a way that in theory, naturally balances out population-differences to some extent (because your WvW-team only defines your color, but your actual matchup is irrelevant). The issue is: EotM would require MASSIVE changes in order to make it work for exactly that purpose. Including, but not exclusively: an appropiate size, mount-access, gliding-access, a full rework of the map in order to account for these changes, a better impact on the actual mist-war-matches (which will be difficult, because it cannot be too high of an impact in order to not create imbalances, but it must be high enough to attract players), and especially: full rewards for playing on the map (that´s one of the biggest contra-arguments on why ppl don´t play EotM, alongside the other problems i listed)

@@jurare89 I'd also have them look at how the battlegrounds worked in DAoC, where each side had a tower, and in the middle of the map was a large keep on an island, and each side would fight for dominance over the island. Or take parts of EOTM and make each part a mini battleground map, or make a multi-lane map like stronghold. Anything that could support a large instanced fight.

These changes are 5 years too late(Lol you've just said the same thing as I typed this out). So while these are a good thing to see, this won't make me come back to the game. Nor all the other PvP players who have left. Honestly I don't understand what's the point investing into an absolutely dead gamemode after all this time. Because all I've seen from 2017 till 2023 was the PvP playerbase shrinking and shrinking. Basicly no new blood, only the old ones slowly dropping out... maybe there are new PvP players, who knows?

The changes for pvp are good but it's not enough. Honestly the easiest thing they could do is give the top 4 teams in monthly a gizmo so people would compete for placement; right now it's just USA carrying someone they like to get a win and everyone else getting gatekept which kills competition

The victory point update is literally the first change in the history of the game to make WvW an actual PvP gamemode instead of glorified PvE. Curious how that pans out. The target cap on offensive abilities will still only hold back the gameplay for me, clownball PvP is not very interactive and shjt.

@@kylequest I can see both ends of this, honestly. I definitely agree that making WvW into "just like PvP but bigger maps" would kill it for many people. WvW provides that layer of tower defense gameplay with actual siege, and offers the potential for various strategic plays (emphasis on potential there). On the other hand, I also agree with them on boonballs also being really problematic in this gamemode, and that constant zerging isn't very interactive for many people too. But I mean, part of what I like about WvW is how it had offered space for these very different playstyles, and made it work. I hope these devs don't continue to make this a game mode just for one or the other.

I love that anet is starting to do changes in PvP again, buuuuuuuuuuuut if they really want to revive pvp and bring gamers in to play they have to change the System and Leaderboards. Move Leaderboards to AT's let Mat's and weeklys give points and maybe daily AT wins/second places a bit. Hide Rating in Ranked, give the players a badge that they at least can feel where they stand and enable 1-5Q. This enables Teams to practice way easier against Teams on a similar level than getting farmed in Daily AT. On the flip side tryhards will not exlusivly play as a 5 man squad, since they don't have to tryhard (or Wintrade) for Rank 1 because there is no Leaderboard, just a Badge, they will stop playing stack when they reach legend OR they Probably Qsnipe each other because they finaly can get decent matches in an easy way. They could stop the endless Soft reset chinnanigans that brings Silvers and plats the first 2 weeks in the same matches (because there are on at the same MMR). They could easily let they rating just stay and remove the badge after 2 weeks and decrease the hidden rating after 1 month by 100/150/200. maybe bring on top 2vs2/3vs3 (and maybe 1vs1) as Late Night-Morning hours AT's, merge Unranked and Ranked and give 2vs2/3vs3/stronghold? a second q with Daily/weekly changing we need to make creating teams as accessible and entry lvl as possible. if a group 5 new players want to rank in together they find out after a few probably frustrating hours of unranked that they only can solo/duoq and than get farmed by the usual AT gang, they will quit immediately.

If they want more people playing ranked PvP, they could create a special reward track limited to ranked that gives you the Gift of Battle. Even if you need to finish it 4 times to get it. I think that would improve PvP and remove leechers from WvW

I mean the WR in EU is making people quit still, so if they do not get it right next time and also remove the tier 6 in EU then we are in deepshit. How ever i am not gonna be the person that only make angry posts, because some of the changes they are adding is actually good and by the look of it defense might be back. The not contesting unless wall/gate is 98% is such a welcome change. Well except maybe not for the guy on Augry Rock who dedicated 12 years to contest Garrison, he might be sad, but the rest of us will finally not have to run and check on keeps and towers hundred times a day. For me personally i can finally focus on what is fun. Running to check never was. So thumbs up on that one. I wish they would put back that capcircles because it reeally nerfed fights in keeps like Garri, Bay and hills that was already rough. Not to mention Earth keep, the keep that is the dumbest keep of them all that favour attackers by putting up the earth barriers in the ground that we who owns it are not able to go through and at points we loose it because of being stopped to contest. And many of the times you get stuck in them as well. Anyway that is something else. The try and making night/superearly morning caps against a empty borders slower pointwise is fantastic. Why this took so long i have no clue, but now it is here and i think most of us wvw players are happy about that one. Thumbs up! The ewp and having several up is actually brilliant and more so in red border where everything is horrible. Either way i like that alot. Not that is really bad is the low cost to normal ac. NOONE is using the normal siege and those that are is instantly getting told off because normal siege is horrible and do so little damage compared to superior. It just is waste of supplies and i can see a lot of anger over this because the cost of the gates are so expensive now and anyone and their goldfish is going to make normal siege and that is bad. Imo remove nomral siege and make normal superiors and guild siege the better option but more expensive. Please dont make normal siege a favor it will be a lot of shit thrown at new players who dont even know this. That was really one of the things i thought was a bad choice. So i am a bit more postive and i might play a bit more after they made new servers since in EU it really is so unballanced and i just hope they understand how bad it is in EU and really make the extra mile of fixing that and removing tier 6 so that we can finally see if Worldrestruction really is a good thing or not. Edit: I forgot to add i want tournaments. to get veterans to play then it is not because fancy loot, we play the game mode because of the game mode. So add tournaments so that we get somethign to do and look forward too! That will get WvW players to come back and wanting to win. Loot is not gonna really change this feeling.

they could even just remove normal siege and leave superior and guild-siege as is (maybe with small adjustments). Guild-Siege is already as good as superior, and its advantage is the reduced supply-cost. that is already enough of a buff for guild > superior to justify that they do the same siege-damage. They don´t need to make guild-siege do more damage than superior because of that.

still I'd wish they also do 1v1 pvp... like come one, we got loads of ppl doing duelling all day every day in WVW, we got loads of ppl doing duelling in the pvp lobby, we got loads of ppl duelling in armistice bastion and in guild halls.. BUT, thou shall not gain ANY rewards from doing it. I'd play a lot of pvp if I could do 1v1 ranked

Probably an unpopolar opinion, but i think that changing WvW to increase competitivenss and winning rewards is going to be the doom of the gamemode in the long run. One of the things that attract population to WvW is that, akin to open world, the mode is pretty casual. You can roam or you can join a zerg whenever you want, and if you don't perform super well there are no real concequences on yourself or your world. But the moment you make winning matter 2 things happens: 1) People become more toxic because now if you don't perform super well it has concequences 2) It will push away casual players because in an envyroment where the aim is to win, the casual mindset is not welcome. This will lead the population to get smaller and smaller over time, just like what happend to PvP. It will also increase hostility even more towards the people that are there just to get a gift of battle, which are already not welcomed in the mode now. Gw2 isn't LoL, the vast majority of Gw2 players don't have a competitive mindset and the more Anet pushes in that direction the more those gamemodes will end up being played just by a small niche, like PvP is.

@vvhitevvabbit6479 Who says that? WvW has been casual friendly for the past 12 years, retaining a decentely healthy population despite almost 0 updates, so it must have done something right. Casual pvp exists in games. Non all forms of pvp must be hypercompetitive and tailored towards winning at all costs, sometimes people want to just hop in and have fun.

I've always welcomed better rewards in WvW, but I also feel that we can have better rewards without making it more competitive. Honestly, I feel like the way servers worked gave players that incentive to compete and fight for their home world without the game mode being this super competitive thing. The goal of protecting structures that belonged to a community you feel close to was more than enough for a lot of people to want to win fights. Or to stick around and defend keeps, take camps, etc. Essentially, these people were incentivized to play the mode in its entirety just because they cared about their server. On top of that, there were also servers that were just more competitive than others, and they were able to exist and continue to play the game as they wanted as well. Having these options available was something that I felt made WvW work. The server structure definitely had its issues, but I also think those issues could have been helped without having to restructure how teams worked entirely. But I digress... I can see where the devs are going with this, in making the mode feel more exciting. But I also feel like they don't actually understand why so many people left WvW in the first place. I keep seeing that Roy supposedly has been playing WvW for a decade, but I also wonder what kind of playstyle he prefers and whether that's been coloring his judgment regarding these changes. IIRC, they play among one of the largest guilds that have stayed at the top of the food chain for many years. If that's correct, then I'm not surprised that they're not seeing WvW for what it is as a whole, and are instead focused on the piece of it that just wants "more fights".

@@DocM94 Why are you assuming "hypercompetitive". I'm not talking about the difference between casual and e-sports. It's possible for it to just be competitive, which is exactly what pvp modes should be. You are competing against other players. Yeah, it's been 12 years of casual gameplay in WvW, with some just running yaks for hours on end, often times while there's a queue and people who want to actually WvW can't get in. For those 12 years, most players have complained that WvW doesn't have any incentive to win. A big part of the reason why WvW has maintained a semi-healthy population is because they've always required WvW gameplay to get Gifts of Battle. If you require players to WvW to get legendaries, then you can better this is going to up the WvW population. Most of those players hate the fact that they have to WvW for GOBs and they wouldn't do it otherwise.

Cele is as balanced as it gets. You're probably one of those that only runs glass canon builds and it makes you mad that you can't nuke cele players and they can actually do damage to you. Cele really isn't a problem.

Celestial stats are a huge problem in WvW, not only for fairness, but also for build diversity. Why have 100 different stats if you can just slap cele on everything call it a day and beat anything with it. Those stats are just plain dumb. Imagine the overnight outrage if cele starts beating full zerker in a raid speedrun, while almost being unkillable. And that's what is literally happening in WvW since years.

You're basically saying that you can't handle cele players with any build. When someone complains about cele, it tells me that they can't manage their cooldowns in a fight. I suspect you blow all your offensive/defensive cooldowns right out the gate, and when the cele player doesn't die, you run out of steam and die. You're only justification is that cele is broken. It couldn't be that you are a bad player.

PvP you have the ascension legendary backpack and the leggie amulet, but I guess you also have prismatic champions regalia for a free leggie amulet so….yeah not as much draw unless you really want the floaty ball or those awesome wings. You do need the shards of glory for a leggie but you can buy those pretty cheap off the TP so probably not as much draw there either compared to GoB in WvW

If things feel less BS then people will automatically be more attracted to it. If a system feels too BS there's no reward that can draw players to them. You could increase the rewards from Serpent's Ire by *1000 and I would still ignore it because nothing is worth having to endure that.

Right now, they just want to encourage people to play WvW, whether you are serious about it or not. When rewards are added, they will not want players coming it just to get participation and get GOBs. They would want people to come to win.

wvw victory pts scheduling is dumb. they shouldve just linked the victory pts with how much pop their enemies are. playing against high pop? higher victory pts. lower pop enemy? lower pts. i thought wvw is there to be a 24/7 game mode. theyre just making wvw more dead at times when ocx/sea players have the time to play and more queued at times when its already congested. how annoying.

conquest as a gamemode is currently a failure due to powercreep, it has little to do with previous iterations of gw2 pvp or mmo pvp in general, combatwise it's just a worse rendition of league of legends in every way. if there is interest in those 3v3 monthlies i would abandon conquest and focus on these, faster qs and easier entry for new players = people more likely to come back. to fix conquest is to turn around the whole damage balancing philosophy of the game so that's not happening.

Well for WvW two things can happen. Either the people who organized the more populated servers either come back and this becomes successful or the current players will stare at each other and see if they know anyone who has ever left spawn without a tag and just give up and it fails. I've even seen those Vip people all standing at siege razor and yelling at him to move out not knowing its really a npc and not a player. So that is your state of wvw now good luck lol :)

Nice changes for those running into walls till prime time and/or very skilled players. Getting to tag on the other side of the map will be almost impossible for average players cause of your prize tag on your hat. Keeping up participation is gone. Queue will go up from 2 to 3 digit numbers. When the tag is on lord, getting there, siege will be gone, gates closed. Killing a guard won't work. Hardly played wvw, while that was my place to go any time. Queue's, hours of waiting, no tags. Just a handfull of active players while passing those running into walls for hours on end. Arenanet really knows how to KILL, a gamemode that is.

How dare they reward skill and contribution instead of just feeding you gifts for simply being on the map. Also, they have a lot more control over map population now. Since each team is now just a large cluster of guilds, they can now just redistribute guild pairings to adjust population.

more changes to cater to the hardcore minority, which will harm the casual or new player experience in wvw. Just delete the mode already and make a gvg system that only allows existing big guilds to play as thats clearly what Anet are going for here. @@demonsagex well a dead game is a big word to use tho , but yes gw2 is pretty much in a boring spot where nobody realy cares about it expect its existant loyal playerbase , aka casual and some veterans , wvw is now directed to groups fights and lost its roaming style , means solo players are gone , just looked at my guild today , we had like a group for 20 peeps that were solo roaming or making small group of 3 , all of them quit after the alliance update , i rarely find people to fight nodays when roaming , if you get all legos and quality of life stuff you pretty much have no goal set and nothing much to do , and lots of players are goal oriented , and anet doesn't deliver on that , game is cool for casuals , and for people who don't have time to grind , but no matter the changes now , its not gonna do much , not to mention that the pvp mod is pretty dead too , so pvp changes are meh.
