i'm always amazed that we have Ernest F Langdon here and people don't seem to be aware. anyway, great video. i have kits for converting my px4 40s into D type, and wanted to run talon grips on them. if i saw this right, all i need to do is to make sure the pins can go thru, but i never have to take the backstraps off? outstanding. thanks again Ernest. you take my favorite guns and make them better.
This was very helpful putting a steel trigger on my PX4 Storm subcompact (yes, all of this works on the sub too). Re-installing the trigger assembly/trigger bar was a bit of an “adventure” but I got it eventually thanks to your close up photos and a tutorial by Doomsday Prepper Dude on installing the Langdon trigger bar. You actually make it look too easy...lol. I didn’t do the performance trigger assembly...the subcompact is a great EDC but not what you would call a competition gun...lol. But your videos have helped me do a good bit of work on my PX4, my 92FS and my wife’s 92X, for which I want to thank you and provide a sterling recommendation to subscribe to your videos and purchase Langdon upgrades.
Thanks for the great vid, Ernest! Watched it multiple times before making the change and it went off without a hitch. One thing I was surprised about was the upper pin--its large head gave me the impression the pin would be large as well and it really was no larger than the lower pin! It might have been a good idea to show the pins once they were out--it would have made more sense to me when trying to extract the upper pin. Your calm and easy explanation gave me courage to move into the new trigger group and I look forward to the new sweetness of an already fine gun.
Just ordered this TJIB for my PX4! I got the notification it was back in stock and I couldn't click that link fast enough! Can't wait for it to arrive! Thanks for all the great products you make as well as these instructional videos! They take any guesswork out of the process and are a fantastic resource!
I just got this kit. this video had me install it in 5 min. . . I thought this trigger would be slightly better but WOW! this is such an amazing improvement over the factory trigger. Amazing work.
Pressing down that spring and simultaneously trying to shift that trigger pin inwards is a devil of a job at first. No doubt you can become a bit more expedient at it as you practice. I recommend perhaps making a small tool which allows you to deal with one problem at a time but just milling around with a screwdriver in such a small area will cause damage. The close-up stills are fantastic, though.
I didn't buy the TJiaB kit, but did but the upgraded trigger bar (part of the kit) and an upgraded hammer spring (also part of the kit), but did them a la carte. This video is a good guide to the work required for install. It's super simple. Minimal tools required (a punch, a hammer and a flat head screwdriver). I can say that the trigger bar definitely yields a much shorter reset and the 11# hammer spring lessens the DA pull a decent bit, and the SA pull a little as well. The reset is short and super crisp! It made n improvement in my right away, but not like night and day. I'm a novice shooter, though, so even though my results were not dramatic right away, I can definitely see how as I learn to shoot better, my ability will be better with this new trigger setup than the factory one. I'm very happy with the purchase!
Good video, maybe mention that the upper pin is released by pushing on the small, tapered, "nipple" that protrudes from the guide in the trigger group. I spent a lot of time assuming that the pin was about as big as the plug on the frame.
One thing that needs to be mentioned, and that isn't clear in the video, is that there is a small wire spring just below the trigger bar that engages a very shallow groove on the underside of the trigger bar. It is very easy to not get that spring to engage, and it becomes trapped between the frame and the bar. The trigger will not function if it isn't engaged properly. It took me a lot of time and sweat to figure that out. Otherwise it's a slam dunk.
Hey Mr. Langdon, I recently picked up the 9MM Compact Carry PX4 model JXC9GEL, and was curious if I only need to get the op trigger bar, or the entire trigger job in a bag? I wasn't sure how the trigger compared to the one you offered. Thanks so much for this very informative video.
The OP Trigger bar and the 11 lb spring for sure, maybe the 10 lb one depending on the ammo you use. The trigger job in a bag gets all those parts polished for you and smooths up the DA quite a bit.
thank you for the lesson! Very Helpfull short and sweet! is it an improvement to switch out the trigger bar when installing comp trigger group, or is it one of those "change it out while im in there" deals?
Not much. The 11# hammer spring is going to give you about a 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound lighter DA pull. Not major, but it lighter. I have shot a ton of ammo with the 11# spring in the PX4 and I know that it is very reliable. We have sold thousands of the 11# springs to customers and have had no issues with its use in the PX4.
Nice tutorial, in your video the install of the trigger bar looks like the original from Beretta, on the langdon website the Optimized Performance Trigger Bar looks completely different
My question your new gray gun flat trigger is made of hardened tool steel am I correct and what is the finish on the trigger going to be I am excited on the thought of replacing the stock trigger which I hate with a passion I hope to purchase it and the trigger bar soon Thank you in advance
Just installed the Beretta competition trigger assembly into my 45 full size storm. Package was labeled 9/40. Will your trigger bar work on a 45 full size? SA is 1 pound lighter,DA measures about the same. Thanks for the video
Your replies are deeply appreciated , I understand your situation maybe I should have bought the 40, though I didn’t want to start buying another caliber as I have a plethora of 9’s…again thank you for your time.@@ernestlangdon3075
Thank you Sir, nicely (and quickly!) done. Question: If I have a PX4 that’s DAO, can I install the LTT Trigger in a Bag and make it an SA/DA? Does that work? Note, I do NOT have a decocker! Thanks.
Well, it would work, but as you stated, you would not have a decocker. I am not a fan of manually decoking a handgun. It's only a matter of time before bad things happen.
What size punch are you using to remove the lower pin? Just curious. Looks to be a steel punch with a longer shaft, but what size, if you know off the top of your head?
You mention a "New" trigger bar in the video? I installed the factory PX4 competition trigger mechinism but it did not come with a new trigger bar??? Is what you are installing your own (aftermarket) devise??? Thanks for clairification....
did you ever get this question answered from another source? i have the same situation. i bought the competition trigger but the kit did not come with trigger bar. thank you
We polish all the parts in the competition trigger kit, provide a polished trigger bar, and use a lighter hammer spring in our TJIAB. The Competition kit just improves the single action and does nothing for Double action, same hammer spring, no polishing, and no trigger bar.
It's the same thing, the only difference is the trigger bar. We have had about 3 people ask us for them, so it is very hard to justify setting up another SKU for that. Sorry, it is just a decision based on what is best as a small business.
Will this make the trigger reset and break more crisp. I find the travel and lack of tension build on the trigger an issue for me as I cant feel the upcoming break.
I am not sure what question you are asking. In my opinion, you do not want to "feel" the upcoming break in Double Action. Normally that is referred to as stacking and it causes anticipation and therefore misses shots. In single action, there should be a very noticeable ledge for the single action break. For the Trigger Job in a Bag, it is a light break, but you should still be able to feel the edge of the single action. I hope this helps.
My issue was in single action when I try to take some of the slack up on the trigger I cant get a sense of where its going to break because I don't feel any buildup at all. Then when allowing the trigger to reset I don't feel it hit the reset point. I have a sig P6 (P225) which in my opinion has the best SA\DA feel on the trigger and I am trying to get my PX4 closer to that.
It will not work on the sub-compact. The trigger bar will work, but the trigger group housing is different because of the ejector used with that tilting barrel system that it has.
Is this trigger group a step to making a standard px4 similar in performance to your px4 carry? At least in the trigger feel, knowing there are so many other advantages to your px4 carry
Well, it would be close to the PX4 Carry or Compact Carry with my trigger job on it. Neither of those guns comes with a trigger job from the starts, this is what gets you there without all the shipping cost and hassle.
Thank you for answering. I spent the afternoon on your website and signed up for email updates but decided to sell my px4 and plan to by one from your website with my Christmas bonus next month. Thanks again.
Ernest, I own a PX4 Full size 9mm. Everything so far is original on it. Do to a disability, it is a little hard for me to pull the trigger. I would like to modify it so the trigger is smooth and if possible not a so long trigger pull. What do you recommend? I use it for target shooting mostly.
Mario Gonzalez The trigger job in a bag he sells here will vastly improve the triggers smoothness and pull weight. However there is not really much you can do to shorten the pull distance on a traditional DA/SA gun like the PX4. If a short trigger travel distance is what you are after then DA/SA Gun’s are not for you. A good striker fired gun or a 1911 would serve you better in that regard. Some striker fired guns with really great triggers right out of the box include the Walther PPQ, CZ P10C, Beretta APX, HK VP9, and Sig P320. Pretty much any 1911 will have a nice and short crisp breaking trigger. Good luck!
If you can run the gun at all. The Trigger Job In A Bag is going to cut the trigger weight by quite a bit. In double action, you are looking at almost a 4-pound reduction in pull weight and likely a full pound in the single action. I have had people with disabilities say it has made all the difference in the world and they love the gun now.
While you are correct from a purely technical standpoint, I don't know that recommending a gun with a light, short trigger and no safety is always the right advice.
Thanks for your response Ernest. I have become a fan of your channel and I am learning from your videos. I move around in a power wheelchair and I have limited mobility in my upper body. I started going to the range once or twice a month not to long ago and I enjoy target shooting. Where can I purchase the Trigger Job In A Bag and how much it cost. I would like to give it a try.
I have the px4 storm 40 full size double action only i really love the gun but man i am not a fan of the 20lb trigger is there any way to lighten it up? Any kits
You can go to a much lighter hammer spring than the factory one and still have a reliable pistol. I would say you could go down to at least an 11-pound hammer spring.
If you get it from us, it is already lubricated. If you get it from Beretta, it will be dry, like really dry. We use TW25b grease on the contact surfaces and pin as well as on the hammer strut and hammer spring. It really does help.
@@crazykoolrn No sir, it is not. The 11# spring is one that we have made for the PX4. It is a Chrome Silicon spring specifically built for this purpose.
@@crazykoolrn Yes, but it depends on which 8000 series spring. There is an F and a D spring for the 8000. The D spring is about a 12 to 12.5 lb spring. The F spring is about a 13.5 to 14 lb spring.
What Beretta trigger are you referring to? To be clear, there is no actual trigger in this kit, it's just all the fire control parts. Beretta sells a Competition Trigger group, which is what we use for this kit. The difference is we fully take that kit apart, polish all the places we would polish on a trigger job in the shop, add in a new factory trigger bar with the same polish work as well as a Chrome Silicon hammer spring (12# or 11# depending on what you order) that is also polished on the spring cap end. That is what you get from us with a trigger job in a bag. Hope this answers your question.
@@slntscpe Which very long travel and what Beretta do you have? The distance the trigger moves does no change with this kit, but it does make it much smoother and lighter.
Someone please help. I re-installed everything but the double action pull doesnt work unless I manually reset the trigger. Can anyone direct me towards what I did wrong?
It is hard to say without seeing the gun, but my guess is the trigger bar spring is not under the trigger bar and it is binding between the frame and the trigger bar. Try taking everything out and make sure the trigger bar spring gets in the grove on the trigger bar.
@@ernestlangdon3075 Thanks for the response. Second times a charm I guess. The whole purpose for taking everything apart was to swap the stock polymer trigger for the steel trigger from Beretta's website. For whatever reason it puts too much tension on the spring that sits on top of it and makes it operate incorrectly. I put the polymer trigger back in and it functions as it should. Now that I'm familiar I'm going to have to get one of your kits. Thanks again and God Bless.
So.... pausing a second before him telling us that the trigger group was under tension.. I pulled the pin out and the trigger group leaped out of the gun LMAO. well... skipped that step for me I guess #oof
Wow didn't get any of that, try doing an instructional video with more closeups and lasting more than 3 minutes, we know that you have done it a 100 times but...
Sorry about that. I tried to make it really clear and it seems to have helped a lot of people install the kit. Most of the people that have responded here say it worked well for them?
@@ernestlangdon3075 Apologies; I did notice that most of the comments said they understood the procedure, maybe i'm being dense, most of these things once you get into it , it all clicks. Some closeups would help i think though, thanks for the response, you have great products, thanks for the work on Berettas, i'm a fan.
Best trigger, WORST instruction video EVER. This took me over an hour and looking every video I could find except this one, which was absolutely useless, UNLESS you've already done this. This is 5 years later, invest in some flashlights, better focus, high quality cameras...take a few minutes to explain each step in detail, like how to get to that first pin out and that you're trying to pop out a tiny pin in the center of what looks like a big pin, because someone, if they haven't already, is going to crack their frame trying to push out the part of the pin that doesn't move. Also, getting the the trigger into the housing with the trigger part is extremely confusing and hard and you're showing the stock trigger bar, when by now, everyone is buying and using the modified one. Please REDO this video. GREAT product....HORRIBLE instructions. This is only meant to help you improve an already great product and company.
I am glad to hear you figured it out and now have it working. Seems that the vast majority of the people who watched the video found it very helpful. We will try to do better in the future.
