Enjoyed the series , number 4 was blocked for some reason .You two eat very well for campers. Also your lovely wife is quite the chatter box , you could hardly get a word in ☺. Thanks again ,I really need a life.
Wow. I'm relatively new to the scene, so spending alot of time researching. We have done a few nights away-at most 4 in one go. I found your blog tagged in a post on a forum and i have watched all of them today 😂 Absolutely perfect. I also have a pick up (DMax) and a tuff trek tent. I will definitely upgrade to an RSI Canopy after watching. Also, you have shown me that-you dont need the best of gear for everything. Just the essentials. Also, that storage system you built and cook stand is fantastic. Proof you dont need to fork out thousands on prefab drawer kits! You have a subscriber here! Your vids have saved me £££'s !! Also, i need a Ghilley Stove! I look forward to watching more of your trips! See you on the trials!
Hi Stephen, glad you enjoyed the videos and thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it! I can recommend the RSI canopy, it's a really solid canopy and worth the investment. My philosophy was to invest in the things that I really need such as the tent, canopy, awning and all terrain tyres and then design the rear tub with a few sheets of 12mm B&Q plywood and so far it has worked pretty well. I think there's always a danger of investing too much money in equipment that you don't really need and then not having the funds left over to do any traveling! Safe travels.
Thanks for the series you two. Keeps me inspired between my trips!!! I’m thinking Croatia next ..... looks stunning .... And after our most recent trip .. I can fully understand the benefits of having a fully pre-pared kitchen unit. It saves so much time and hassle compared to living out of boxes ! I will be looking into this in time for summer ‘18. So - please can you review your setup soon? Be good to see what, say, the top 5 issues of using a pickup / roof tent have been so far in your experiences and how you’ve overcome them. Where to next? All the best
Flap Bean Thanks for the support, it means a lot to me! Croatia sounds good, I went there a few years back on my Bonneville, the coast road is awesome. Vibraction have a Balkans road book which looks quite interesting, I was thinking about doing it next year maybe? I've had a few comments about doing reviews etc. on the setup and the gear we use so I'll oblige as soon as I get time, life is as busy as ever at the moment though. All the best!
Actually, I am moving in a month to Texas. I can't afford to live in California anymore. The State is beautiful. Yosemite is my favorite place on earth. High taxes and everything expensive = lower standard of living. You are welcome.
Planning on doing part of this route in 2 weeks, just fitting it in traveling down to Spain, how long would you say it takes from samitier to tremp? Do you have any other form of contact I could speak to you about info ? :) thanks Ben
benmac2996 Thanks! I have Rival underbody protection, it covers about half of the vehicle but not the fuel tank. I think it's only about 3 or 4mm thick but it just about does the job. Cheers!
benmac2996 I've enjoyed everywhere I've been so far, I wouldn't like to say which was my favourite, but I find myself always returning to Spain; great food, cheap wine, friendly people, loads of legal off road routes and plenty of sunshine! You can't go wrong.
Europe Overland sorry to jump in on the reply, been watching your episodes, loved them. Well documented/presented, nice Hilux and set up. What sort of maps/navigation system do you use for the legal trails/offroad?
Hi Roy, for this trip I used Wikilocs and followed this route - www.wikiloc.com/offroading-trails/trace-4x4-pyrenees-traversee-4489504 I navigated the route on my iphone, I also took 4 maps to cover the region. I had 2 Michellin road maps for the western Pyrenees but they have little in the way of off road tracks, I also had 2 very detailed maps of the eastern Pyrenees which have lots of fine detail and many off road tracks. They are produced by the ICC (Institut Cartografic de Catalunya) and the titles of which are 'Pirineu Occidental' (map number 1) and Pirineu Oriental Girona Costa Brava' (map number 3). You can buy them from Stanfords in London, they aren't cheap at £15 each but they are worth it. There are 7 maps in total covering the Catalan region. Cheers!
Hy . I´ve been folowing your trip. I live in the Ocidental Pirinees , and will like to know if you know about ay good road book that you recomend for this trip. thanks for your atention.
