Pyro-Technique video: E-matching Consumer Fireworks Part 1, Consumer Mortar Shells.

In this Pyro-Technique video, I am demonstrating a safe, effective, and quick way to e-match a consumer mortar shell for instant fire, or a chain of shells as well. This is the same method I use to test fire all of my consumer shells for timing, and the same method I use to fire chains of shells. Expect more videos on this topic soon!
Edit: This is my OPINION about ematches or initiators snagging on shells if placed inside the fuse hole. I prefer this method since it eliminates that possibility completely. I may go back and re-do this video to express that opinion, and I may test that possibility in the future.
As always, I am using MJG Initiators, the ONLY consumer igniters on the market. If you don't see the blue and white wire, it's not legal.
Buy them here: electricmatch....
Or here: cobrafiringsystems.com/mjg_igniters.html
Or even here: www.pyroboom.co...
Questions? Put them in the comments!

Poked and matched my first cakes a couple weeks ago and I am hooked! Looking forward doing some cannister shells as well now! Thanks for this video

Paul, thanks for making this video on a snag free way to put initiators into shells! I will be using both of these methods this year. Have a great 4th! ✨👍

This was good stuff man, much appreciated...one suggestion (or request I should say) I think we would all like to see you actually fire these shells at the end of the video...Please!!! :)

I appreciate you watching though! After this month, I should have more time to create more content. Thank you again!

I like that you cut and fold over the fuse. More fire, more better. When I poke my cakes, I double my fuse going into them too. It's cheap insurance.

I poke and place the initiators directly into cakes, but when I'm going to fuse I always double up. Like you said cheap insurance. I got to try the visco initiators on my last show, and they worked great! I'll do a video of them later.

Another plus for the shroud: It pushes the flame forward and into the lift charge. When you defeat the shroud it flames in all directions instead of forward. So not only is it a safety need, it's a functional one.

I just had a quick question. With youe technique with the canister shell did you ever experience problems with the igniter pulling yhe canister shell after being lit? Or The nail perfectly handles thag situation?
@mikeernzen9979
@mikeernzen9979 2 месяца назад
if you run an initiator inside the tube with some canister shells which are so tight inside the tube, even the tubes that come with the shells, there really isnt any room for the wire to ride between the shell and tube wall. Could that not cause the shell to get stuck in the tube?
@PaulsPyro
@PaulsPyro 2 месяца назад
@@mikeernzen9979 Extremely unlikely.. with the amount of energy coming from the lift, it's extremely unlikely..

I tried to fire off FireWire by friction and by impact but couldn’t. I usually leave the shroud on anyway.
@PaulsPyro
@PaulsPyro 2 года назад
That's part of the intended benefit of the Firewire, but I figured it's good practice either way..

I was going to start a series, but in 2022 I got buried in planning for the Area 51/Blackjack demo, and designing the Sky Wars show.. I am hoping to do more of these videos soon. I think lighting a fountain nearly instantly is a challenge with e-fire, along with lighting roman candle bundles.

Great video!!! Very helpful. This was my first year using push button panel and e-matches vs fuse. I followed Dave's method, I shot a little over 100 artillery shells without incident and am very thankful none of them was flung towards the spectators. Looking forward to more E-Matching fireworks of all types. Looks like you used masking tape. Is there a reason vs. brown packing tape? Can the shells be over taped? Thank you,
@PaulsPyro
@PaulsPyro 3 года назад
I use masking tape where I want it to tear away a little easier. If I want a stronger hold, I use my 1" kraft paper tape. It's virtually identical to brown packing tape, but it's easier to work with, and fits in a portable tape dispenser for ease of use. A lot of people poke directly next to the fuse hole with no issues, personally I prefer to match directly to the bottom of the shell. It's a little quicker too. However, you should never remove the shroud from the e-match. Thanks for the sub!

you think its safe to prewire the shells with mjg and drive with prewire shells in car/truck? to the shoot site to save time? just worried about the movement will fire off the lift charge
@PaulsPyro
@PaulsPyro 2 года назад
If I can help it, I prefer to match on site. Although the risk is reduced with the MJG compared to commercial ematch, try to match on site if possible.
@mrjcell26
@mrjcell26 Год назад
Late to the party on this but a couple of things.. Doing this is actually a violation of federal law. You've basically made 1.4g into 1.3g. You used to need a type 54 to buy ematch. Not sure why its so readily available nowadays but do know 1.4s still has storage requirements Now that I've said that, if you are going to ematch, don't transport matched product. Also, if you're ematching on site prior to your shoot, shunt the wires of your matches to lower the chance of pre-ignition.

I also bet you'd have a coronary if you saw someone cut the warning label off a mattress. That being said, I'd like to see what title and chapter statute you're allegedly referencing here. Don't just type it; I can sit here and say "federal law prohibits people from making things up on RU-vid" just as easily as you can say "you can't transport ematched fireworks." Well, after I typed that paragraph I decided it would be best to do my research instead of putting my foot in my mouth because I don't know everything. To sum it up: you're wrong. E-matched fireworks can't be shipped, but can be transported by personal carrier (the buyer) as long as it's to the ignition site or to storage before the launch. I know it's fun to prove people wrong, but you should at least try to do the smallest Google search to make sure you're right beforehand. @@mrjcell26, I was disrespectful and I apologize for that. It doesn't matter if 500 people say the same thing if they're all wrong. They could also be referring to their state laws. Maybe one well known Pyro Guru stated this as fact referring to his state and everyone took it as gospel so the misinformation spread. If I'm wrong I will only accept cited statute or government policy. I cited where I got my information. I don't possibly see how I could be wrong when it's right there in black and white on a DOT.GOV site.
@mrjcell26

@BrendanClements The label on literally every 1.4G UN0336 firework in the U.S. states " it's a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with it's labeling".
@BrendanClements
@BrendanClements Год назад
@@mrjcell26, I just checked my mortars, roman candles, and rockets with none of them containing that label. Please cite your source, because you're at least wrong with the word "every." Regardless, you're moving the goalpost. My main point of contention which I proved wrong was transporting ematched fireworks. Let's stay on theme before straying. Admit you're wrong regarding transporting ematched fireworks or please provide citation for proof.

Wish you’d have shot them off so we could see timing. Assume it’s instant?
@PaulsPyro

With directly matched shells, it's instant. I test lift timing on shells on my channel this way.

Guy says leave match shroud on for safety, the proceeds to cut into the lift charge of a consumer shell. SMH 🤦‍♂️
@PaulsPyro

So how would you recommend it? You're the first person out of hundreds of tenured pyros tell me this is a bad idea. If you have a better way of doing it, get off your high horse and educate me and the others here. In the meantime, tell me how cutting into the paper holding the bottom disc on will be a huge safety issue.
