How do the High Elves view the Skaven? I know that humans know very little about them due to the Conspiracy of Silence, and that Dwarfs and Greenskins are very aware of their existence and fight them constantly. But what about the High Elves? Do they know the full extent of the threat that the Skaven pose to the world?
The Oatlord The human's know much about them, the human's have studied most things in the Warhammer world but they just haven't told the common man, high ranking Imperials know a great deal about them
Question: How it is even possible that the empire denies the existence of the skaven? The dwarfs are an important ally to the empire, do they know that the empire denies the existence of the skavens and have they ever tried to do something about it?
He M. the empire actively denies the existence of the skaven because they fear the Skaven would consider the empire to big of a threath and unite to destroy them
He M. The upper echelons of Imperial society know the Skaven exist. Karl Franz, Balthasar Gelt, Volkmar, Kurt Helborg, Ludwig Schwarzhelm, and the Elector Counts among them. The Colleges of Magic, Witch Hunters, & Cult of Sigmar are also aware of them. It's only the general populous that is unaware. This is because the higher officials believe revealing that the Skaven Under-Empire is real would cause mass panic.
GlamdringandOrcrist Yup not so much that they're afraid of being destroyed remember this is the Empire we're talking about but since the Skaven have never been united successfully they just can't afford to worry the people about a threat that lives right under them
So you're telling me that the skaven fear the empire so much that they'd unite to quash them if they found out their existence.. but they are completely fine with the dwarves, elves, lizardmen, etc., knowing?
for the skaven Q+A: how competent are their melee infantry on a unit basis? obviously they would lose very easily in a 1v1 but would they be able to trade against a same cost unit of humans or dwarves or is the infantry really just there to hold the enemy down for monsters and war machines?
Jerec 12 It depends on the type but clan rats and skaven slaves you'll be lucky if they beat zombies, Stormvermin might beat regular troops depending on the faction like draw the line after Orc Boys but given the right weapons they might be able to do more
One theory I've toyed with for how the two attitudes are compatible is to note that a lot of the most important Elven gods also align fairly well with the more important Lizardmen gods. Chotec to Asuryan (both gods of fire and the sun who are the head of the pantheon, at least pre-Sotek), Tepok to Hoeth, Huanchi to Kurnuous, and so on. It's possible that a lot of the Elven pantheon essentially started off as how the Elves saw the Old Ones, and this interpretation of the Old Ones through Elven eyes was reflected in the Realm of Chaos to form the Elven pantheon. As a result, while the Old Ones and the Elven pantheon are not the same thing, for the purpose of origin stories, they ARE: because at that point Asuryan was just how the Elves viewed Chotec and so on even if later on the Elven pantheon would become its own thing completely separate from the Old Ones. The present-day Elves understand this process, so they see no contradiction in saying that they were created by the Old Ones and in saying they were created by their own pantheon (which was, at the time, the Old Ones as seen through Elven eyes). However, while Elves understand how gods are created through the beliefs of mortals, humans in the Warhammer world largely don't. As a result, for an Asur or Asrai to even begin to explain this to a Bretonnian or Imperial would first require them to go into an in-depth explanation of how gods are formed in the first place, an explanation that may be dangerous if it causes the listener to have a crisis of faith or to denounce the elf's explanation as heresy. They might consider discussing it with a College Magister or the like, but in most cases, brushing it off with a "you wouldn't understand" is probably not unfair.
36:00 - I am just a mere human and i am 3 years late but i think i cannot only grasp the high elves relationship with their gods i think i even have the perfect explanation. From what you say it sounds as if the elves relationship with the old ones is pretty much akin to the relationship a child, that lives with parents that are not the biological parents might have with their biological parents. No matter if it was given away or taken by youth welfare or the biological parents died, said childs relationship with their "new" parents is going to become more important than the one with their biological ones.
this is an interesting viewpoint on strength of high elves versus others. Arch Warhammer before TWW2 came out said high elves were one of the strongest on tabletop - interesting Sotek disagreed. Come 2021 they are the strongest race for camp in TWW2 so beginning to think this was a little off base - defn underselling the Asur in some parts here for me.
Well its a matter of him taking the tabletop representation too litterally imo. tabletop is a game afterall and needs balance. Lore wise the commen high elf militia will wreck top tier infantry of most things that are not other elves or dwarfs. To my understanding of the lore anyhow.
I have a question on the horned rat. For the other gods, they gain their power through the actions and worship of the mortal races, with the four major chaos gods gaining additional power through the laws of the universe like change and stagnation etc. My question is then how did the horned rat come to be. In the skaven creation story a stranger built a tower and the bell etc that caused the creation of the rats turning into skaven. So he made his own worshippers, but then where did he come from. So is the horned rat a Mage that ascended to godhood when he was worshiped by his man rat creations, or, because of the crossover between nurgle and the horned rat, is the horned rat a daemon prince of nurgle that has become powerful enough to become his own god.
Do the Skaven have any sort of standard, as in an evil act that even they would consider abhorrent and disgusting? (For example, for the Beastmen, hurting or killing a Bray-Shaman is considered a heresy and a crime of the worst kind)
Gabriel Perrella trying to commit treason against the council of 13 and failing there (if they succeed they are viewed as a successful new member though )
The reason elfs and humans can cross breed in lotr, is because the same god (valar) created humans and elfs. While there was another god who created dwarfs, Which is why elfs and dwarfs can not cross breed.
A quick scroll through the comments didn't show anyone bring this point up- half-elves aren't actually a race in tolkien's universe. There's only one that I can think of in the entire series. His parents had to actually go to the gods of that setting, and ask be allowed to have a child. And eventually he had to decide if he was going to live as an elf or human. ( and my vague understanding of that is, his decision actually morphed him into the race but he chose) So "half-elf" in The Lord of the Rings is more a title then a race.
since the horned rat even before the end times was a chaos God why doesn't he have more demons? Also why is it monotheistic how come there aren't other rat gods?
So Loremaster, i have a question. Since Daemons of Chaos are going to be Part 3. Does this mean that no matter the result. The Vortex will get weakened enough for Daemons to invade the Warhammer World again?
Rellana1 if they tried they would lose 9 out of 10 ships due to magical storms around ulthuan, that is before they go up against the high elven military, any skaven clan that tries this will be wiped out and other clans would attack them and steal their resources,
Well if that Black ORc Grimgor had any interest in exterminating all the skaven he could get fairly close, as he actually fought his way to SkavenBlight on a whim
Got to be the Stormfiends, (more) mutated rat ogres in power armour with a variety of weapons such as warpfire throwers, miniguns or tunnelling drills strapped to their arms :)
If a female skaven is born Albino or with horns would they be chosen for something greater than Breeding or would they just be considered an even better breeding machine.
Can high elves, dark elves or wood elves interbreed with each other? What about dwarves and Chaos dwarves? I know that the races in Warhammer are different and cannot cross but are these races similar enough to do so?
question: why would dark elves want to destroy the portal and sink high elf homeland and the world when that could there start a empire. Malacath build a dark elf fleet and attempt a invasion of the empire or lustria.
Does most Skaven, at birth start as clan or slave rats and kill their way to a higher position or is there a ranking system to determine who becomes a Stormvermin, Shaven Warlord or Ratling gunners and such?
LittleNomojo They have this belief that the color of a Skavens fur dictates it's purpose grey fur he's probably gonna be a grey seer, black fur he's a born killer and will probably become a Stormvermin, Albino he's destined for greatness, brown fur means nothing and they'll become whatever they have the aptitude for though many warriors will dye their fur black if it's not black. Also only certain Skaven get to procreate as they want good genes so powerful Stormvermin often have powerful Stormvermin children like Queek Headtaker and so on and so on.
LittleNomojo if they have horns they become a grey seer, if they have black fur they become a stormvermin, if they have white fur they become one of the albino guard, apart from that they all start as skaven slaves.
Mortato Doesnthaveasurname actually, the albino guard dont start with white fur. They are shown things so horrifying by the council that they lose all color in their fur. Thats also why they have undying loyalty.
Would it make sense for the ratmen to have a higher unit count per army than other factions in TW? That is: having armies of say, 25 units instead of 20
Dwarve Q&A: are dwarves as strong as depicted in the first gotrek novels cause ther is that part where Felix is almost incapable of lifting gotreks Axe, so are all dwarves Hulk like strong or something.
@Loremaster_of_of_sotek I am not into Warhammer, but doesn't everthing go to shit in the endtimes? So shouldnt the Dragontamer left the vortex and joined the fight against invading Chaos?
How does Malekith rationalize his right to rule the high elves? He wasn't elected, he wasn't accepted by the gods he isn't the eldest child. Seems like he has no standing at all.
While he seemed to be a much more honourable elf in his past. His mother twisted his thoughts into thinking he should be king, then being rejected by his god Asuryan, then millennia of war. For this he actually hates his mother, very toxic relationship. He's developed into maybe one of the most resentful characters if no the most. I think he's just driven by that - pure spite. He's utterly alone, surrounded by either psychophants or people wanting to backstab him. The culture he's created to serve him has no room for friendship. He's completely alone, yet utterly proud and vengeful. He doesn't need standing, he just wants dominance at any cost, that's all he has left. Malekith and his empire are the concept of tyranny taken to the nth degree.
In your opinion, which of the four great clans (Moulder, Skryre, Eshin and Pestilens) would win if a major conflict ended up oposing them? And how would the conflict go? Which advantage does each Great Clans have over the others and how would they use those at their advantage? Would certain clans be more ready to ally themself with one another? Like Moulder buying Eshin off and Pestilens beeing targeted for been heretics/Nurgle wannabe piece of crap.. Feel free to describe a hypothetic civil skaven war that would happen in the time frame of TWWH, since it'll probably happen in the game :) *Plz dont simply elaborate about the older civil wars agaisnt clan pestilens, since those didn't see all 4 Great Clans fight each other but simply the Council trying to get rid of Clan Pestilens... they couldnt pull it off... Unlike a certain Skink ;D.... I guess that Tehenhauin is more effective than the Council of Thirteen LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I would personnaly put my money on Clan Moulder. Heres why: They have their own stronghold in Hell-Pit instead of simply quarters in each cities (Moulder have both), so it'll allow them to have a strong base of operation relativelty safe. Their ability to create and breat monster and upgraded skavens alike assure that they'll never lack manpower (skavenpower?), while the other clan will have to rely on breeders that are less efficient than the upgraded version that Moulder can produce. The Council of Thirteen relies on Clan Moulder to stay alive thanks to their potions and would Moulder stop keeping them alive... they would die, cuting the head of their opponent. Finally it is said that those "creatures obey the Packmasters and Master Moulders without question, making them dangerous investments for anyone who wishes to purchase one". Basically all the previous investments in Moulders creations would backstab Clan Moulders ennemies. All that beeing said, a strong point can be made towards Clan Nurgle...Pestilens! (oups ;P) since it did survive many civil wars that saw it fight the rest of the Under Empire... a feat that no other clan can claim to have made.
What keeps Skaven from dominating the world where they are so technologically advanced? (Somewhere I heard that they even managed to contact Tau space ship)
I can partially answer this question I think. What mostly prevents them from conquering the world is their backstabbing personality. Skaven continously fight and backstab eachother resulting in almost endless conflicts and chaos in the under empire. If somehow all the Skaven could unite they world above would be pretty fucked.
Bruva Michal That's part of it but the other part is the lack of reliability on their great technology it breaks and malfunctions constantly which usually costs hundreds of Skaven lives at a time realistically speaking the dwarfs are technologically only a little behind the skaven and everything they have is reliable so if they stopped taking so long to get projects ratified and put into mainstream use they'd catch up to the Skaven in like 3 years with reliability also while the Skaven population may be massive it's population of things that actually get stuff done is slightly less than the whole of the Empire
They'd be a major threat if they fully united but if a powerhouse faction were to also be fully united and set themselves only against them I honestly can't say who'd win
Crawford 470 I do not see the dwarves doing anything like that because of their stubbornness and traditions, only when the dwarf invented something at a reasonable time so it had to be at least slayer, and it still does not blame the fact that the dwarfs included the invention in army. ( I do not know but the artillery that is powered by warp stones that shoot "lasers" between the cannon that fugues on the black powder, I do not think that just a little technologically behind)
They also are dumb and completely ignorant to everything around them because they've been pumped full of Warpstone drufs since birth basically they're basically cows
In my opinion you should script out the answers in these videos. If you ramble like in this video you really repeat yourself, you really repeat yourself, you really repeat yourself
i like your vids but you sound like you're on the verge of yawning very often. It probly bothers me more then it should. It just takes me out of what your talking about when you do it to.
