Q&A - How can I get rid of greenbrier without harming the plants around it? 

Greenbrier has an extensive tuber system which makes it impossible to pull up. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond recommends using a sponge to apply glyphosate to the leaves. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says you can also cut the plant off at the soil level and paint or dab concentrated glyphosate on the stump. The herbicide will be drawn down into the roots and kill the plant. Both of these methods protect desirable plants nearby.
