I love watching Midrash! They are all good but this one is great! I am watching the replay since I was flying back from Ecuador on Saturday. I felt terrible for traveling on the Sabbath, which I have been keeping for a few years now. Sometimes I am not certain what activities are permissible. On another note, many people often aspire to be any of the great biblical characters but no one ever says, “I want to be the dumb donkey”. Even so, I have often felt like a dumb donkey. An unlikely servant of God :) and grateful to be in His service, no matter how low the place :)

Just like Pharoh... God will lead you to where your heart wants to go. He warned Baalam several times. But his heart was onto evil. God didn't change his mind.... God permitted him to follow the path he was so determined to go. Also I need to mention... for which ever way we choose to go, there will be consequences.

God didnt speak through the doneky. God allowed the animal to rise to higher conciousness. The one and only other time that God allowed an animal to raise to same level of consciousness and intellectually as a human being as to rationalize or be able to SPEAK is in the Garden. The Serpent is the one other animal that had this ability. The Serpent seduced men to do evil and disobey God, to take from the tree of Good and Evil. The Donkey speaks but it's not to make man sin but rather warn and correct... to make him reflect. Rectifying... See the two opposites. This Torah Portion is one that speaks to us today too. Another thing I noticed was that Balak is a Leader... and Baalam is a Prophet (or Seer/Spiritual) SEE both are leaders. And leadership is a representation of the people. They act as representatives to the people. If the people are wicked and evil, their governments will represent that. How are our leaders today? What are we seeing today? Also, Balak and Baal have the same letters as Bable and Amalek. Which mean Confussion and Doubt.
