#question: can you speak about stretchy skin? I was wondering the Eat to Live plan if the stretchy skin problem was not so bad, as it is with the McDougall plan. Some people have real trouble with stretchy skin after weight loss. Thank you
Sorry, not a question but yall are really cool and inspirational and down to Earth. I subscribed today because...well, yall are great. Looking forward to more great content from yall. :)
Krocks In The Kitchen Love your videos! They are very helpful and well crafted. Would you consider doing a video for people who hate salads? I saw your salad video and have been eating them for a week and I'm having a very hard time! I changed up the dressings and hummus, but I just don't like them whatsoever. The salad is my big hindrance into going 100% into Dr. Fuhrman's plan and I won't be surprised if it's a lot of peoples hang up as well.
I definitely agree that one plan isn’t the best for everyone. I can, however, agree that eating a Whole Foods diet is beneficial for anyone, whether they are losing weight or not!
I don't know if y'all ever saw my comment about not being vegan or a nutritarian . Just loved watching your channel . Blah blah blah. Well this girl has since bought Eat to Live ! And let me tell you it is life changing! I was so inspired by all the fresh and healthy recipes. Thank you so much for making your videos.
You guys are the cutest couple. Such a wonderful fit for each other. I watch your channel for the tips and info about how I can better my health, cause you provide good info. But, your guys' kind, respectful, and playful interaction with each other makes learning from your channel fun.
lori grass totally agree :) I have been eating plant based for over 20 years now but I watch their videos to listen to a nice, well balanced and respectful couple. They are really lovely people ❤️
been watching you guys for a while and I do not usually say too much but your comments about Brian being a trailblazer if you will for "big guys" I appreciate. I am not so tall but I am formerly a 5'11" guy that started this journey at 626 lbs so I can relate to him. Right now I am about 370 and getting my health back. (lost about 80 lbs the hard way in about 2 years while studying and once all the facts became crystal clear and I filtered out all the noise and misinformation in May of 2018 I went 100% WFPB with limited SOS. and lost the rest since then) I considered doing what you guys are doing but honestly didn't love the idea of doing it but felt that there was a hole there, I was happy to find you guys and see Brian filling that void. It let me off the hook from doing something I really did not want to do lol. Anyway thought I would share you guys keep up the good work!
Scott McClellan Just wow! What an extraordinary story. The ordinary person would give up but you are powering through it like nothing. I sure hope your doctor is validating your efforts. Best wishes to you are you head to the finish line!
Scott are you in our Well your World group on fb (and RU-vid)? Your name looks familiar. There’s several guys in that group all eating plant based, if you’re interested! The Krocks are an added blessing to me with their fun videos and amazing recipes.
@@angelhayes5166 I do not spend much time on FB Angel so no on that right now. But I am an avid Dillon Supporter and have been for a long time on YT and yes I have been in some of the live shows etc. and commented a few times on his page which is probably why my name is familiar. He speaks as if it was coming right from my mouth (in other words his research/understanding is exactly what mine is as well as how he cooks/eats and his "simplistic" approach...so I connected with him immediately.) and I do recognize your name as well.
I knew I knew your name lol. I am usually a quiet bystander but love his vids and so comment when the mood hits. He is awesome. Glad you follow him and it’s nice to “meet you” officially, my plant based friend!
I have followed plant based authors/speakers since 1988 when John Robbins spoke at my college and you are two of the most inspiring, fun, positive voices for plant based living out there. Your example of how to eat a plant based diet in the real world will inspire many. Thank you!!
While in Louisville, I was informed the correct pronunciation is "Luh-vuh." Best not to inquire further. Jessica, I beg to to differ: you and Brian ARE the experts. You have lost the weight. You have changed your blood panels for the better. Yes, I'm grateful for Dr. Ornish and Dr. Esselstyn's research. I'm grateful for Dr. Gregor's Daily Dozen. I'm grateful for Mic the Vegan, whose channel started me on the WFPB adventure. I'm even grateful for Derek Simnett, because hey, he's pretty and fun and I'm a pervy old lady. But you two have made the journey before me, have told me what worked for you, have given me your recipe
lol Louisville is French with a Southern drawl, if you aren't used to it Luh-vuh is much better than Looey-ville or something else. There is a third syllable in there but its very softly pronounced, something not done in English. the "is" is a very soft ah kind of sound. you pronounce the "l"s but they come out closer to an English h. Jessica was really close for a non French speaker/native. I give her an A.
Hi guys! I am a Brit who used to live in St Louis a long time ago. One of the main things I remember was the fattening food in huge portions EVERYWHERE. It is a difficult environment to eat healthy so I really applaud you :) now I am pleased to hear they have a VegFest. times are changing for the better!
Oops... ...your recipes, and have held my hand every step of this journey. Make no mistake, you ARE experts. Not having a medical degree does not diminish your practical expertise. Thank you from me and all your fans.
Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it. I’ve got to look again at Eat to Live, because I’ve been stuck at the same weight for about 6 months after losing 30 lbs. sigh… Finally, FINALLY was able to give up oil in my cooking (that was tough!). It helps. You guys so inspire me. Thanks! ******************************* Btw, I stumbled on one of your other videos where you ate only potatoes a year after your two week potato fast. It really got me thinking. I started my whole food vegan diet ala Dr. Joel Fuhrman‘s Eat to Live book just under two years ago. My journey also started with the lowly potato. Potatoes were my “go to“ meal when I was so confused I didn’t know what to do next. I’m so moved by your tears of remembrance, because I’ve been there, too. The first 10 days of my whole food plant-based journey I had a nonstop headache (“withdrawal“, Dr. Fuhrman would likely say…). The second week I fell in love with the salad, really looking forward to every meal with the salad “as the main dish“ (as Dr. Fuhrman would say). But, I hit the skids on the third week when I realized I couldn’t possibly face another salad and really wondered whether or not I simply couldn’t become a vegan. Then I discovered a RU-vid channel: Gloria Lopez’s “Revolution in bloom“ where she specializes in Cuban inspired cuisine (read: no salads) which she has veganized. My family particularly fell in love with her whole food plant-based lasagna recipe and I think I’ve made it 100 times in the last two years. Anyway, I lost 30 pounds and found myself completely transformed health wise. I would never, ever go back to eating animal products. My son spontaneously went vegan, as well, seven months ago and now he’s getting straight A’s in school and his acne completely cleared up! Incredible. Thank you for your inspiring example.
I started the potato fast on the 1st and as of the morning I'm down 20 pounds. I also stopped diet soda cold turkey. So that's mostly water weight from the salt and chemical additives, and that's scary because my mother battled congestive heart failure because she retained fluids. Remarkably I didn't get a caffeine headache or feel ill from having an electrolyte drop. I'm still not dying to eat something other than potatoes, although I'm watching more cooking shows and did a big shop to replace everything in my pantry, so I'm ready.
Well done on your journey. Great video. Thanks. I also started on the Dr Furhman plan and have lost 70lbs . I did plateau after 50lbs and swapped to the Mc Doughall starch solution. Now at my target weight, I combine both. I love my big salads , but also love to make starchy meals and indulge in them . The difference between both plans is that Furhman’s plan is less of a starchy plan and big on legumes and nuts , while Dr Mc Doughall is big on all starches and not on nuts and seeds. I find eating starches first meal triggers hunger for me during the dat. So I have my starchy meal as my last meal of the day. So I have green veggies for meal one. Big salad for meal 2. And medium salad and starchy meals for 3. I dont eat between meals and if ever I feel I need to, then it’s raw veggies .
I love both, too. I exercise A LOT though, and I've found that Furhman works better for me because of how much I exercise. I think the protein and healthy fats must help my muscles recover more than starches.
brigitte McCray I exercise too now. I didnt at first though . Losing weight and becoming healthier is what encourages me to exercise and also importance for bone and muscle health .
Not being able to exercise is a really good point to raise. I went from close to 190 down to 160 in my 30s because of lots of walking but then I developed plantar fasciitis in BOTH feet and gained all the weight back plus a ton more with lots of yo-yoing. As I try to start more whole foods and plant based eating this month I started at 261 and I'm down to 255 without the ability to really exercise right now. I'd like to make really good progress by my 45th birthday in February 2020!
Recommend exercising in a pool, even walking in the water works. I blew out my knees walking when trying to lose my first 100 lbs. Then the walking had to stop. Now I go to the pool 3 times a week. Love it. The weight lost has started up again and my knee pain has been reduced by 70% (without surgery) but with cortisone shots.
I've been following you on your life journey recently but had no idea about your diet/weight loss videos. I am beginning a whole food plant based diet because of digestive issues and was looking around at vegan recipes and I stumbled upon your older video on how to make homemade hummus. Now I am delving all the way through your past videos to learn as much as I can. What a great service you are providing for everyone by sharing your knowledge and experiences. I truly appreciate your help! Sending good vibes your way. Have a great rest of the week. Sincerely, your friends from northeast Florida
Multiple comments follow. - Hilarious that Jessica highlighted the questions to show which question was whose. Haha! - I concur with Brian on the pronunciation of Louisville, although have no authority whatsoever. - As for the cheeses, I recommend Miyoko’s. Her stuff is awesome. She does an amazing butter too. I don’t do oil anymore, so I don’t use it anymore... but yum! - It is super cute that Peef had his own tea! - Here’s a comment that I hope will not be taken badly, but it has occurred to me several times. What do you think about Jessica getting a different hair style? I could see something layered being super cute. ✂️ - Interesting about the starchy carbs. I was thinking ya’ll did unlimited. I bought The Starch Solution as well. I am curious to read it and hear what you think! - 🍏🍌🥬🥒🥦🌽🥕🍋🍊🍐🍅🍠🥔🥭🍇🍓🍉🍈
I am so grateful for these videos! I too am following the ETL 6 week plan and except for one ounce of nuts per day, usually in my salad dressing I just stick with the unlimited foods. Even so, I average 1 lb. per week. So even though I don’t have nearly as much weight to lose as you have, it can be very discouraging. If I deviate just a little, I gain a lb back overnight. You inspired me to make a chart like yours so I can see my progress. That has been very motivating. You address everything I’m going through so you two are my main inspiration for not giving up! Thank you!!!
If you can find this dressing where you live, try Walden Farms dressing. It's oil, sugar, and fat free. It's actually pretty good, and comes in many flavors. We never used to use any dressing at oil, we would use lemon juice sometimes. So, Walden Farms is a favorite. (We like the sweet onion)
I've noticed that when I eat too much bread or nut butters, I gain instead of lose. So those are now off limits for me (except tahini which I add to my hummus, but in a reduced amount). If I stick to one starch at mealtime plus unlimited non-starchy vegetables and a fruit, I lose weight. So a normal vegan diet does not work for me (because vegans eat a lot of nuts, nutbutters and still use a lot of oil and salt), I definitely have to be WFPB SOS.
I began a vegan diet back in 2017-18 for ethical and spiritual reasons. It opened my third eye but lacked nutrition. Then through various changes got adjusted to the Whole-Ethical Lacto vegetarian diet (I have dairy in limited amounts and from ethical sources), and it's going quite well. Lost around 15 kilos from my average weight after puberty, current BMI is 19.4, and feel energized overall. Also eat raw fruits and veggies in good amount, when possible.
I love you guys. Not only from your weight loss videos. I love you guys seeing your happy relationship and your love for each other and support! I have a big hubby too but he’s a little reluctant to do what he needs too! Still love him! You guys are great!
I appreciate your view on alcohol. I’m 60 and have had a maximum of 10 drinks my whole life. That includes beer, wine coolers and mixed drinks. And I didn’t finish most of them. My parents did enjoy an occasional drink and my sister and brother have a drink occasionally drink but it never appealed to me. I do have an occasional soda. I’m very healthy and take no medicines. I enjoyed your video. P. S. I’ve learned that only 10 minutes a day in the sun, weather permitting, helps your body make the vitamin D it needs.
try the 3-2-1 dressing from the Esselstyns.......3tbsp balsamic.2tbsp mustard and 1 tbsp maple syrup any seasonings you like.....you are obviously doing everything right...cheers. I love being able to eat till satisfied and still drop weight.
I’m in Louisville, KY!!! If you are local, it’s pronounced “Lou-uh-vul.” The reason for this pronunciation is because we are sister cities with Louisiana. If you think about their accent, it will all make sense. Haha!
Love your videos!! I’m down 22 lbs in 6 weeks. I adjust recipes for my taste and have found a great balance. My coworkers see the difference and have asked about it and I direct them to your Channel, you guys are inspiring! Great job!
I am doing a Whole Foods plant based diet, yes. I’ve tried the potato only diet but could only do it for 4 days and switched to a Mary’s mini and it helped kick start my weight loss.
Laura Larkin I just watched all of the Krocks videos, read Dr McDougals book the starch solution and thought I’d do a 2 week potato only diet, that lasted 4 days and I switched it up to a Mary’s mini instead. Mary is Dr McDougals wife and you choose one starchy vegetable as your main source of food(50%) than the rest is non starchy vegetables, no oils. You can search on the Krocks videos and it really explains it all. I only did the Mary’s mini to kick start my weight loss and reset my tastebuds. It works. It’s a Whole Foods plant based diet.
Not Counting Sheep: My brother is 6'2", doesn't exercize and is almost 70 years old. HE got inspired by Brian's success and couldn't believe he could have chili and potatoes and still lose weight! The proof is in the pudding I guess. 🌹
I seriously enjoy your videos and am very happy that you two are vloggers. Thank you for your humor, on point advice, honesty, good sense, and all the laughs. Peef!!!
Your pix from when you were heavy are actually very sweet. You just look like different people! You are still a very sweet looking couple. Same smiles I guess does the trick!
I have subscribed to numerous vegan channels over the years and after a while unsubscribed! Your channel is a real breath of fresh air (sorry I'm British!! )the two of you are so real, down to earth and funny😆I love your channel it puts a smile on my face even after a tough day at work. I'm definitely a stayer. Thankyou.
Wish I could like this video twice! Would love to see your salad dressing recipes cause I'm a sauce fiend and I'm addicted to Red Wine Vinaigrette dressing, but I'm wanting to take the family into oil-free territory. Keep up the great videos!!! Look forward to them!!!!
I do so enjoy watching you guys. Brian, I too, have been a tea drinker all my life, straight up, no milk, no sugar. I am now pretty much addicted to Twinings Darjeeling black. Must have it. Also, I am not WFPB, however, I am moving more towards it all the time, finding most meat centered meals too heavy and honestly, not as digestible.
Hello, Krocks. Re: the exercise, walking the dogs is great (both for you and the dogs). As for Brian... you guys both seem to love music. Turn it up and dance. No equipment needed, no skill required, just have fun. :-)
The Burger King Impossible burger is amazing! I try not to eat that kind of stuff often, but we had to give it a go! And Jessica, you 100% pronounced Louisville right ;)
I enjoyed this Q & A, as I do all of your Q & A's, and I had no problem with the length of the video. You two are an inspiration and I would love to see more recipes on Pinterest. Thanks for your time and effort in sharing your journey. Keep up the good work!
You guys are amazing!!!! Omg you both look amazing!!! I’m soooo glad you did it together and had each other to help each other!!! Much love to both of you 💕.....and Oliver !! Keep going and thank you for sharing something so personal.
This was a great video! It's so encouraging to hear about your adventure of getting healthy. I've been off of meats since 1997 and for the last few years I've been leaving off the dairy and trying to do whole food plant based more closely. I've lost 30 pounds (very slowly) but still probably need to loose about 50 more pounds. I'm going to try to be more intentional with this plan and not cheat so much. Thanks for your wonderful videos. They are very helpful!
That's SO amazing and motivating! I'm also documenting vegan/WFPB journey on my YT channel 📸🎥🌱 but you guys give me so much HOPE! thanks for the great video!
A scoop of chili is good on top of a bed of greens and in the cold months helps salad go down even more. Also walnuts, red raspberry simply fruit jam, and a bit of nut milk or water blended makes a very good dressing when first changing those taste buds I found and is still a me favorite on a bed of baby spinich...
You guys remind me of an episode of chopped 😁..... Brian takes the basket ingredients on a magical flavorful mystery tour and Jessica is the judge! 😁😁😁👨🍳👩⚖
Personally... I do like these longer videos with the Q&A... I like the personal side is your story. Though... Make no mistake i love the kitchen videos also. After all... The kitchen videos are what got me here. ;)
You are super sweet guys ❤️ I love your videos- so inspiring! But you make a really good team too - that’s huge part of a success :) now I will go and make myself some tea before I finish watching you 😀
I don't have my biggest pants anymore but they were just like yours: size 22! I remember my first time walking into a plus sized store and feeling ashamed. But I was pleasantly surprised by the experience - it turned out to be very positive and empowering to learn that I could still dress nice at any size.
Hi! Congrats on the healthy lifestyle changes..... great video tea time.... say Louisville like you have a mouthful of marbles.... as I was instructed to do by a native to Louisville who I happened to talk to before I took a visit there last year....hearing me say it was a dead give away that I'm born and raised in California, lol!! 🤣😁👍💗👏✌
I drink oolong tea which is really great, several times in the day, gorgeous with lemon, but I do start my day with coffee, it’s my “weakness”. I do drink filtered water throughout the day. I make my own soya milk, which took several goes to get right as in illuminating the beany flavour. I’ve been vegetarian for well over 20 years but recently I have changed to vegan. I feel so much better for it, and the bonus is I’ve started losing weight, which is amazing. I’m type 2 diabetic, and have been for around 8 or 9 years. I weighed 11 stones (144 lbs), now, after 6 weeks I’ve lost 8 lbs., and that’s without even trying to diet! Bonus! My husband has just decided to join me on a plant based diet, which is just awesome. I take B12 and vitamin D and Sea algae capsules. I Love your channel, came across it by chance, and it’s so interesting. Keep doing what you’re doing.
I am not a native Louisvillian. However, I did live there for 6 years. My friends called it Loo-ey-ville. They considered Loo-uh-vul to be an affectation.
leslie ewing: I lived in Nawfuck Vujinyah (not Norfork) where when they speak about the war.. they ain't talkin' about WWII .. they specifically mean the Civil Wahwah ... 😁
Question! I’ve done well on Mary’ s Mini. I chose potatoes. Sweet potatoes with a broccoli side or Yukon golds with salsa are great. Japanese sweet potatoes were like a dessert! This tasted great and I was melting. Now I ate the skins; did you? I can’t take russets without something and even spices didn’t help. Someday I’ll copy another blog where he added almond milk and whipped them not branching out until I hit the 50# goal. I’ve tried your griddler grilled hash browns-good!!!! I previously asked you to come up with the potato slice toco shell - I’m going to try that on the griddle- it’s easy to form the shell by making the slices form a flower but I gotta get those slices to fry together to form the sturdy shell... can you use your genius to help?
You two are such an inspiration. Thank you for posting your journey. I love watching all your videos. I started plant based before I found your site, but you simplify it to a point where it seems so easy. Thank you so much!
I was in the middle of my giant salad with smokey hummus when I spotted your video 😁 I had lots of questions and today you answered them all, well all except the one about how you both feel being an inspiration to thousands of viewers! I thought I was following the diet correctly but after your video today I’m checking the plan again because I may have some things wrong. That’s what happens when you read the first two chapters then skip to the plan. I don’t know why so many Doctors drag their books out. I’m not really interested in people’s stories and I don’t need motivation, I just need to know what to do! The other stuff is great but once you’re on the diet. Thanks as always for sharing your experience and Jessica, if your old jeans are a 34 inch inside leg I could probably borrow them.
I used to take iron but found out that if I take cod liver oils pills (refrigerated) the help me absorb iron from my food. Now I don't have to take iron. Refrigerated pills prevent the aftertaste that would normally occur once the pill dissolves in my stomach. I have shared this with others and it worked for them as well. Not sure this would be acceptable on your plan but wanted to share an alternative as I know iron causes constipation as well as it did not increase my iron despite supplementation.
I went to a class for making sauerkraut the other night and at the end we ate previously-made sauerkraut and quick-pickled veg on salad. I gotta say, homemade kraut is delish, but never ever would I have tried it on salad. I added a little olive oil, so for folks who are ok with a bit of oil, it was weirdly amazing.
I wish we were neighbors!!!! Thanks for all the interesting information. I have been wfpb/vegan for almost 30 years, it works great for me, I am super healthy and weight is good. Please keep doing these videos forever!
I love using an flavored herbal tea like apple cinnamon, blueberry ECT. They make boring water flavorful without adding calories. I also occasionally buy hint water not very often because o try not to use excess plastic.
