@@darthlatimer9818 i been eating Holley's for 40 years this way ! All kinds a crazy stories . I remember beating a guy with a .030 over 390 . Class 3 meling race cam . Boat anchor Holley . Headers . I got a stock 307 . With a 327 intake so i could run a q jet . Headers n a q jet . He got a car length on me from the get go . I was behind him . Both of us turning left . So i came from behind . We turned the corner . I rolled to the right in first and dumped that spreadbore q jet . Railed bye . Put 2 car lengths on that 390 with a stock 307 ! That guy was pissed ! ! ! We got to the next town n pulled over . Shit ! Fuck ! I cant fuckin believe that ! Fuck ! Good times ! Ill take q jet over anything . RU-vid search Todd Haven i think it is . Guys racing a firebird . Awesome q jet cam under the hood ! Be safe !

After doing a study on these secondary metering rods and their hangers I found that the rods are set to be approximately .100 above being fully seated in the secondary jet rings. In other words, with the proper hanger in place the rods are hanging .100 above the jet ring. I made a precision set of special rods and gauge and checked several pre 1975 Quadra Jet carburetors to get the results. So as the mas says they use different hangers from letter A to Z, with A being the highest and .005 higher than a B hanger, and a B hanger .005 higher than a C hanger and so forth. Good video information.

at wide open throttle, manifold vacuum pressure drops and the front vacuum break linked to the secondary air choke still opens fully. All you do is set the spring tension as light as possible and leave the vacuum pod on the carb. it opens the choke on cold starts to prevent flooding the engine as it warms up

Ive tried that dozens of times . I swear the rod it self creates drag on the system . Open all the way one time . Half way the next time . Its in consistent with the rod hooked up . But with the rod off . Its exactly the same every time ! Ben watchin ppl racing with them . They gut all the choke stuff off ! NO metering needles . Over center the secondary baffles ! All my friends are holley nuts . I eat ther lunch EVERY time ! And then they cry to ther ford mechanic . Whats with this weldor eatin our lunch every time ? Him n his q jets Lmao ! The big trick n the 70s was drill a hole in the vacuum can . To inconsistent ! I do NOT like to lose !

raced a big block in the NHRA superstock class with a 211 Qjet. OEM number for 1967 I suggest you try to find someone that agrees with you BROTHA!!!!!!!!!

My whole crowd agrees with me . They all drive fords . I get 5 more miles ta the gallon . And kick ther ass every time we race ! Last one i raced was roy . Fresh 400 big block . RV cam . Holley , headers . We figured i got him by 12 truck legnths . With a stock 350 with 200,000 miles on it ! Smart ass guy lol 😁 Lets here some tricks brother ! Be safe buddy !

I have a hard time believing that GM/Rochester created a carb who's secondaries have not worked correctly, for 40 years. My understanding to view how far they open the engine must be UNDER LOAD.

Definitely does NOT have to be under a load ! When i clean my carb with carb cleaner n park running . And i throttle it . My secondaries dump all the way open . NO load ! Look at the big boys draggin wity q jets . They take all the vacuum crap off . File the secondary baffle stop so they over center ! Ilk take a q jet over anything . My budfies are all ford / holley guys . I eat ther lunch every time we race . But my secondaries open all the way and stay open ! Then they run back to ther ford mechanic and cry Whats up with this guy n his q jets ? I beat ther mechanic when we raced too . Hes got a 390 with a class 3 melling race cam headers and holley . Im in a 73 lt with a stock 307 i put i put à 327 intàke 1on so i could have a q jet . I came from a car length behind him . Dumped my spreadbore and shot 2 car lengths out in front of him and he just couldnt catch back up ! Man he pissed when we got back to his shop . F**k ! Shit ! I cant f n believe that ! F##k ! Laughed my ass off ! While his squarebore holley quit pullin . My q jet pulled right on by ! Ive dun that fr 40 years now ! The mechanics buddy . Did a 409 sbc q jet in a station waggon . Pulled 9 second quarter mile a mile high . Best carb ever ! Go to Todd Hoven youtube channel . Watch his q jets n action !

I drove a Roush destroked 351 in D/Gas long ago, fords go fast but need to spend a lot left starting line a 10,000 rpm 5-speed car

Thank you so much for the information.. Been fighting my secondaries in my boat.. found the idiot who rebuilt them bent the secondary rods too.. soon as my boat hits 4000 it hits a wall, if i play with the carb it'll hit 5k and add 100hp or so..

That's how I drive em get the Rpms up a little bit 2500 or so and then jump on it and I set them up for just a millisecond of bog so when it catches up it kicks like a mule

When i set one up for others . I usually have them bring the rpm up to about 3000 holdin first gear . Smooth it out . And put ther foot through the floor ! The higher the rpm before dumping them open . The snappier the secondarys are ! When i race someone they usually get a car ahead me . Just gotta wait those col seconds . . . POW Scrrream on by ! I got one guy who had a 390 . 030 over meling cam . Boat anchor holley . He got a cpl car lengths on me . I came from to cars behind . Popped that spreadbore n ate his lunch by 3 car lengths ! Stock 307 . Q jet n headers ! He was pissed ! He kept sayin , I cant F N believe that ! I just couldnt run ya back down ! Hit about 3000 holdin first gear and pow Waaaaaah ripped on buy ! Laugh my ass off !

my tricks really wont help you, no more primary rods, secondary air flap needs a stop put in to limit natural richening at end of quarter-mile, holes in primary throttle plates no progressive linkage, both throttle plate open same as the front, tape on the top gasket to prevent bowl dumping in back of carb on the leave, secondary throttle plate has to go beyond center to even out atomization, there's a lot more but that's enough

Very interesting buddy ! Sounds bizzare ! Ive seen a cpl videos of q jets with what i hear is a throttle stop . I see in the videos the throttle linkage looks wide open . The secondary butterflies are wide open . Gettin ready ta leave the line ! How does a throttle stop work ? If ya have the time ?

Its tough to beat the stock calibration . I normally leave the stock secondary metering needles in ther . And if i want more fuel ill change the secondary metering needle hanger . Each letter in the alphabet is one step leaner or richer basically . If the hanger is stamped with a letter m . Thats not raising the needle very high out of the jet . The fatter part of the needle stays down in the jet . As the hanger letters approach letter A . They lift the needle farther out of the hole . So if you have a letter M hanger . And go to say a letter K . That will make the secondaries richer !

@@gustavette8487 yes . Closer to letter A . The farther the hanger will lift the needles up outta the jets . I think thers a video right before or right after this one . Good parts hook up fr q jet stuff !

Works great for me n stock applications ! Good timing on your end . I was just at big o getting some work done on my 77 front end . The 05 has became to unreliable . 77 has over 600,000 miles on it . 350 sbc q jet , 35/12.50s and a 6" lift . 2 a my best friends run the wrench end a the deal . Sqeezed the pedal leaving ther . Spun the 35s up some . Pounded the secondaries . The one mechanic has a race car . Called me 2 days later . Can you stop by and weld something on my race car ? Sure . As im leaving the one buddy turns around and says o yah . The new guy heard ya rip by in your plow truck . Wants to know if you can build his q jet for his 400 . Cause his truck doesn't run anything like your truck ! They already had the carb pulled . I onow the track guys do alot of stuff to their q jets . Over center secondaries. Remove the the primary needles . Just running jets . For mostly stock applications this is the way to go . Me n the help were just talking to a guy i hammered 35 years ago . I had a stock 307 in my 73 lt . I put a 327 intake on it so i could run a q jet . Q jet n headers . Stock block . He had a .030 390 . Class 3 meling race cam . Holley n headers . And low first gear C-6 . With 4-11 gears . I had 3:08s in a posi rear end . We were heading north outta town . Single left hand turn lane . I was beind him . Light turned green . I followed him around the corner . Then jumped into the merging lane . Dumped that spread bore . Ripped on by and put 2 more car lengths on him . Then we steady out . We were heading to his shop . Man he was pissed when we got ther . F**k ! I cant believe this ! PISS ! Son of a bitch ! Laughed my ass off ! Ive killed holleys for 40 years this way ! Ya got some tricks to add lets here it ! Otherwise im not changing anything !
