On the 19th November 2014, Qantas introduced its first “retro” painted aircraft, a 737-800 named VH-XZP, marking a nod to the airline's past. This special livery, inspired by the design used on Qantas’s original 747s from 1971, features the iconic retro flying kangaroo on the tail and the iconic ochre cheatline. The aircraft was named in honor of former Qantas CEO James Strong and arrived in Sydney following a transpacific journey that included stops in Honolulu and Nadi. The arrival was celebrated with a water cannon salute, attended by Qantas staff, including CEO Alan Joyce, and Strong’s family. This event highlighted the airline’s rich history and its ongoing commitment to innovation.
