Continuing with the QAV400 build. This video demonstrates how to wire up your NAZA and configure it for 3 flight modes using the Turnigy 9X 3 mode switch. The modes I configure in this video are Attitude, Manual, and Failsafe.

man I like this build a whole lot better than his TBS discovery build I bought a 9XR radio with the frsky maybe I can build this too Thanks for the vids for all of us that aren't the sharpest tool in the shed and like me a newbee. Great job Dennis
Dennis, Great video! I did not know how to make the 3 position switch to work thank you! now I can set up a new Quad. I just used a two position switch, for my Quad. you made it EZ!
Sheesh, the biggest reason to go with ER9x is that ear-splitting beep after every button press! Nice vid Dennis. I still haven't went with a CC3D but I was doing some research and a thread on fpvlab popped up for the Acro Naze32 (I can't link it.. damn youtube). Pretty long thread with a lot of happy people. Runs the same OpenPilot software as the CC3D with all the same sensors. Also runs MultiWii. Thread title so you can Google it is "Multiboot controller - CC3D compatible FC for $25"
Ha ha. That annoying beep and the fact the menu navigation is a pain. Thanks for the link. I know another fellow Austin, Texan that is flying with the Acro Naze32 and he loves it. I will definitely give it a try in the near future. And it's dirt cheap! Hope all is well.
No problem at all. I appreciate you following along. This frame is incredible and I didn't have to spend hours to reduce vibes like I did with my TBS. Don't get me wrong, the TBS is a great frame, but doesn't do as good of job with dampening vibes. How do you like your 9XR? That's on my RC wishlist :)
I originally flew in Heli mode, but recently started flying Acro mode. The main reason I switched is because I could get 6 switch positions with my APM 2.5 setup. Also, the NAZA manual recommends using Acro mode although I'm not 100% sure why. I've flown fine in both modes.
I'll trade you cameras :) But to be clear, I'm not auto-focusing in the video. Everything I do is manual focus. It's more work, but I feel like it does a better job.
just ended up ordering few replacements, i don't expect hobbyking to be fast if they do anything at all. but atleast the usa warehouse got the stuff in stock so shouldn't take as long for it to get here.

I am following this same setup, but I have an issue which is that I am trying to set up the normal switch position to GPS, but the offset doesn't allow me to move it far enough left to select this mode?
Joe Anthing What about adjusting your rates as well? The UPRATE/DNRATE settings, whichever is appropriate. In addition to the offset. If that doesn't help perhaps you can take a photo of your settings and post it in the forums at www.garagepilots.com. We may be able to help you out over there. Good luck.
Hi Dennis thanks for making this video in the video at 452 min you plug in the esc to the naza do you have to take out the red wire i heard that you don't need it because it has bec build in the esc and it can ruin the naza if the red wire is plug in .
No problem and thanks for watching. It's probably safest to remove the power and ground and just leave signal. The DJI Opto ESCs don't have a BEC for the reason you point out. Now I personally haven't had a problem with using 3rd party ESCs with BEC built-in on my NAZA, but if you want to be safe definitely remove power and ground from your connectors.
Noah Schechtel I would expect it's somewhat similar regarding using a spare channel to send different PWM values to the NAZA. But I don't know specifically how to do this. Hi Dennis! I have a Turnigy 9x to my Tarot 650 Quad with Naza M lite GPS. I`m having trouble calibrating the sticks, it looks unstable, and the markers on calibration menu are not standing still, they are moving a littlebit when im not touching the sticks in Naza Assistant. I`ve setup my 9x in HELI mode, and I`ve godt two questions. 1: Is it better to program it in ACRO mode? and why? 2: Is the FrSky package for the 9x more stable?
Sir Haugen I started flying in ACRO mode with the T9X and this video talks about some of the differences: Turnigy 9X Heli and Acro Flight Modes Explained Now with the Taranis I create my configs from scratch because it's so easy to do. You don't have to worry about any pre-configured gotchas that may get you. I really like the FrSky package for the 9X and it's what I changed to after a year of flying with the default module. I'd like the ability to get failsafe at the receiver level and better range. The "better range" statement I never actually verified. Was just led to believe that based on what FrSky says as well as what various pilots were saying in the forums. Good luck!
Do you have any experience doing the 3 pos while using sbus of the Frsky x8r? I have the xjt module in my 9x and I cannot, for the life of me, get the flight modes set up.
I've only done it with the Taranis: FrSky Taranis and X8R Receiver SBUS Setup w/ NAZA Flight Controller I'm not sure if it's possible with the 9X but will see what I can find out.
+ArriCAT5e You can set those up on your knobs as long as you have your knobs configured for the X1 and X2 channels that are plugged in into your RX. Good luck.
hey! thank you for the first video that is explaining it properly... my problem is still i got a headtracker on channel 5 and 6 and im steering my cam pitch with FLP if im not in trainer mode togehter with the googles (headtracker) can i set the U port on channel 7 or 8 and also program with gear on 7 or 8 ? im loosing my patience and asking my self if I have to update to erx9 or get a better TX at all? Thank you for your help!
Dirk, I know you can set your gear on CH7 and CH8 but I've never configured the 3 flight modes on those channels. I don't have time at the moment to look into this but will try to in the near future. Another thing I might suggest is to check out www.garagepilots.com and post in the forums there.
Stumungous To the best of my knowledge the input happens on the NAZA's U port and you'll need your receiver channel connected to that. Now to enable another channel I'm not sure it's possible with the stock firmware. I know you can do it with OpenTX and I think it's also possible with er9x. I have this setup with my Taranis (it runs OpenTX) and I can map multiple switches to the same channel. So what I have is my flight modes on one switch and then another override switch that I can toggle anytime to flip into failsafe. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, but I decided to upgrade to the Taranis to get this and other capabilities. Good luck with your setup.
Denis, you have same receiver and transmitter as l do. Have you flashed that D8R-II Plus to the D8R-XP with that new ppm code? Would love to see this same setup with PPM to the naza. Having issues getting that three way switch dialed in and I think you are ideally suited to do one of your awesome video on PPM Naza config. What do you say?

There is a way. I use the d8r-Xp and am using CPPM with Naza with three flight modes. The secret is to make one of your pots aux channel 6. Turn it all the way up. Then do three mixes with it on the three position switch.
Hi Dennis , been flying helix and 350qx quad . Building qav 400 and need some help on: 1- how to setup orange rx 8 channel receiver to get correct motor direction, or wire up naza -m v2 now to see proper motor direction. Have dx8 tx. Could you help me out with this. Would greatly appreciate it. Or.... Is the HK orange 8 channel rx the same as the receiver you show in video. Thanks Noah

Lower the gain until 90. My qav had a heavy wobble. Unstable and finally bring me to tragic crash when test fly. Give up on naza. Waiting for new qav pdb. And will install naze32 fc

Hey, I have a flysky th9x (same as turnigy 9x) and would like to have telemetry and sbus. Do I then have to buy a frsky receiver and module, and how can I set it up on my radio so that I have telemetry? Thank you, Tobias

Dennis Baldwin I already have the answer I think, but there are some risks. First you have to flash the radio with er9x firmware which supports telemetry. With flashing the radio you could severely damage the board. Then swap out modules. Thanks for the reply though
I am new to naza.. recently got mlite on 450 quad. Got it set up..flies well but in course lock mode, my controls get reversed :( What am i doing wrong please help. Using T9x stock .

hi dennis, im building a qav 400 but im wondering because the naza has a already a bec to power it but if i use 30 a simonk escs NO opto, with a bec should i remove the red wires because it only needs the signal wires thanks already :) i dont won't anything to go up in smoke haha
Hi, congrats on your build. It's generally the safest for non-opto ESCs to remove the red wire when making your connections. Now I have used several different types of non-opto ESCs with my NAZA and had no problems, but it's not recommended. Just wanted to mention.
I'll have to look this week. My QAV is at home and I'm away from home at the moment. I dialed them down a bit from my TBS Dicovery so I can tell you they're somewhere between the defaults and: 150/135/125/125 and 140/125 Which is what I used on my Discovery Since the QAV is a smaller frame perhaps you can start with the defaults and work your way up to something in between the defaults and my TBS.
