In this video I demonstrate Voronoi cells (or Thiessen polygons).
Georgy Voronoy was Ukrainian mathematician who came up with a spatial analysis technique which is named after him- Voronoi diagram. But John Snow came up with a pre-cursor to this method of analysis in 1854 (way before Voronoy was born) to help pinpoint which pump was the source of an outbreak of cholera in London at that time.
They are generated from a set of input points (in my case sample points of pubs around Leicester) such that each polygon defines an area of influence around its sample point, so that any location inside the polygon is closer to that point than any of the other sample points.
