QI XL Full Episode: Reflections | Series R With Joe Lycett, Liza Tarbuck and Zoe Lyons 

For those who may not know, Joe Lycett had his name changed to Hugo Boss and used that in one of his comedy routines, hence Sandi giving him the "Boss" word in the experiment.

That's not Joe Lycett, that's a somewhat famous funnyman named Hugo Boss.

This is the funniest series on you tube. Not many things can make me laugh until I cry.

Okay, Sandi made a joke but there is a reason Liza saw her reflection 'bulge' for a second when she shifted which eye she was focusing on. Its her glasses, because of how glasses have to be curved for best correction of your vision you only ever get actually identical refraction of light looking straight ahead. When you shift your eyes to look to the side the refraction each eye receives is slightly different. Normally our visual cortex adjusts the image so we don't notice (the same way it covers the blindspot directly ahead by creating a composite off the surrounding). But focusing on your eye in a mirror, then immediately switch focus to the other, the slight distortion of the light in the mirror and the differing refraction of the glasses, the brain stumbles for a second as the composite image from both eyes aren't composited, and for a second you see the world as each eye would see it differently.

Sandi missed Alan's joke when she asked about how she was going to teach them to write like Leonardo DaVinci and he said "teach us Italian." That was so funny and ignored

I've known since childhood that some birds see their reflection as either a possible mate, or as an enemy. You can tell by their behavior which one they see! Right now, each and every day, we have two wild birds who attack our tinted glass windows. The windows are covered by steel grills, which they hang on to, and peck at the glass hard, attacking the "other" bird. Every day! Luckily, the glass is thick enough that they have yet to break one, but it might happen soon!

I've always thought my mum should have learned mirror writing. She's a retired journalist and used to do all her interview notes on notepads with a ball point pen. Being left handed, she had the smudging problem, and learned to write with an extremely awkward handwriting that even herself had a hard time reading 😄 I just thought, how long would it really take to just learn to write and read backwards? But then I was a kid, and learning anything seemed easy.

but my mirrors at home do that same thing and Sandi isn't here flipping things around. Or at least I don't think she is. She's so small I guess she might be hiding somewhere.

Those great earphones. We had a system here in the PNW of the US during the preWW2 era where a person sat in a chair and the phones/chair could be rotated and tilted. When the sound of motors was loudest the coordinates were given to the spotlight operators.

There is a non-scatological explanation for the ziplock bag on the moon. Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke left a photograph of himself with his wife and two sons on the the lunar surface in a ziplock bag. He then snapped a photo of it with his fancy Hasselblad camera.

It’s more easily explained than this - a mirror reflects light exactly as it’s received. The problem is that we only read left to right.

Mirrors flip front to back. That's why it appears left-right reversed.

Even QI gets the mirror thing wrong! Up and down are absolute directions, left and right are relative directions. Put a mirror on a north wall, stand in front of it and look at your self. Move the top of your head, move the bottom of your legs, wave your west arm, wave your east arm... see, nothing flipped. :)

Sandi's explanation about flipping things in the mirror makes no sense to me. The reason why things LOOK flipped in a mirror is that the light that illuminates you goes directly to the mirror and is reflected directly back. There is no "flipping". It's just that our brains interpret it that way. There's no reason for the image to be inverted, that is turned upside down. It's an interesting illusion and mind game that Lewis Carroll got a lot of mileage out of. But it doesn't really exist.

It's always nice to leave something of ourselves on another planet, so why not poo! The next people or aliens can extract our DNA from it and clone us and see what a bunch of wankers we are. LOL
