Its a shame the commentators don't give enough credits to Wang during this match. They portray as if it is all due to Serena not playing well. They have a problem with Chinese people beating Americans.
Wang Qiang's handshake with that sincere bow in the end showed her great respect to the legend. She is very nice, elegant and beautiful inside and out!!!!!!
Agreed. She also gave way to William at 6:25, even she was ahead the way. Qiang Wang is a decent sport athlete. Do the best to beat the opponent on the court without mercy. Do the best to respect the opponent off the court with full friendship.
I find myself watching this match again & again, this is what tennis is all about. 2 players giving it their all, at the end one had to win, both showed great fight.
And to think that last year at the US Open, Wang walked off court having faced Serena in the QF, lost 6-1 6-0 and hit 0 winners throughout the entire match, and then said in the press conference that Serena was simply too good and too powerful for her. Then she pulls off a remarkable upset like this at the very next slam.
It was a mis hit that barely landed on the line-that’s called freak luck from someone who has zero grand slam titles and no replicated levels of success.
This was easily my favorite women's match of Australian Open 2020 especially after watching the final. Serena still played good tennis but it was Wang who had answers for every shots from Serena that day. Looking forward to more variety in women's tennis and some quality matches like this.
Agree, since her return she’s beaten so many opponents, and went to the finals. Albeit not winning but she still got into the finals, something many people on the tour would only dream of doing
Amazing Lady Wang .... super competitive but still have enough respect at the end ... great mentality than any other Chinese athletes I've ever seen ... impressive!!!
Great Performance of Wang Qiang, making great progress from 2019 to 2020. Compare the last mathch with Serea Willams US Open 2019 and this one Australian Open 2020.
@Honest Citizen why are you mentioning serena's prime? Obviously Serena would whoop her ass in her prime, just learn to take a loss everyone loses no matter how good of a player they are.
Serena’s mobility is her weakness. When she’s dictating the match and making her opponents react to her, she can still dominate. When her opponents make her run side to side and get into long volleys, she gets into trouble. Middle aged athletes need to outsmart their younger opponents. If it comes down to a grudge match of who can outlast the other physically, the older player has a distinct disadvantage.
Man it was so cool seeing Serena go super saiyan 4 when she dropped the first set. What a competitor, but all credit to Wang. This match was phenomenal.
As a Serena fan, I'm obviously gutted when she loses, but I'd rather she loses first week than lose in all these finals, I can't do that anymore. Watching this match, she fought...wasn't her best day but she really fought and that makes me believe she still has a slam left in her. Kudos to Wang, she studied Serena inside out from the last match, that's called learning from your losses.
I will always admire the fact she returned after her baby and is going for her goal. At 38 it must be hard I'm 33 it's hard for me to workout 5 days a week lol and she's still playing at this high level. Thank you for your motivation. No one was talking about Margaret court until Serena surpassed Stefi graff they just don't want this woman to be great.
Except for the fact that it took Serena ten more years on the tour than Steffi Graf played to finally win only one more slam than Steffi. That's hardly being great.
@@salunkearvind76 Is that why Henin has a losing record against several of her contemporaries including Kim and the Williams sisters? Serena has more than three times the slams that Henin has. Go back to your cave.
@@stuartwayne4978 Hardly being great? Serena has more Grand Slam titles than any male or female player apart from Court that has ever played tennis in the past 140 years. What drugs are you on?
@@regulusarcturus ....sure, and it took Williams 140 years to win only one more slam than Steffi did in less than half the time. Serena is way way overrated.
@@michaelp9061 What history? That isn't the first time Serena's been defeated in the third round, it would've been actual history if Wang had actually got to the finals or won it.
It wasn't your day Serena but you played amazingly well. Am so proud of you. I honestly want this fight from you. Keep on keeping on , you will surely get your goals by God' s grace cos you're a hardworker.
Hopefully Now That Serena will play the US Open 2020 She can get to 24 finally with no issues she had a lot of time to rest energize and train so hopefully if she gets to The final this 5th time will be the charm
unfortunately that power was too much for her. she was clearly exhausted the next match. she's incredibly skilled and she played with so much heart, but the fundamental problem is that she actually doesn't "have immense power". she has very limited power and she squeezed every drop of it out of her body during this match. massive respect for pulling off the win, but it is in spite of, rather than because of, her "power".
Because whoever play against Serena. Just like wang did she was playing the match of her life meaning she playing her best tennis that she ever played in her life 😂
PERFECT example of how to beat Serena. Keep it close and keep it tight. Serena's nerves get the best of her when the score stays tight. Especially now of days.
@@kevinpatrickcarey3741 you’re hilarious but I’m a MAGA Republican ready to vote the Democrats the hell out of leadership. And yes, both women are beautiful. There is no need to hate on Serena bc she is black and more muscular and curvy.
Paul Kelley watching her play tennis for two decades now, from my observation, I can say she’s honestly both. Amazing athleticism and a great tennis player!
The wind has pushed the 'Serena ship' off the rails and it will most likely end up on the rocks. The coach and the player both asking, "where did we go wrong" But the writing has been on the wall for a long time. The present set up between coach and player will not work (it's impossible) because they are friends. And they are BFF's Serena and Venus's success started with their dad. He made it clear, "When we are at tennis, I am not your dad, I'm your coach" In other words, you do what I say and not you want. The dad laid the foundation of their success with the right kind of discipline and integrity. But nothing wrong with being friends, but not in a professional relationship, it just does not work. Serena's clearly dictating what she will or will not do which has worked against her. Her coach has been weakened by this relationship as he has no backbone to be the man he is supposed to be. It's time for Serena to start over again but under the leadership of an experienced and mature coach who has the right kind of discipline and who can bring something fresh and new to the table. Someone who has the right energy and who can be a good role model. Patrick has walked out of their professional relationship ages ago and Serena does not realise it. Serena still has the world at her feet but she would have to move swiftly and with a steely determination to achieve her goals!
exactly my sentiments. I felt the communication mish mash during the 2018 debacle was a sign Patrick needs to go focus on his academy and shoot, Vee and her can team up and coach themselves with a few advisors and hitting partners honestly!
I like your statement. It has been two years and her movement hasn't gotten better. Frankly I find it surprising why that hasn't improved and you saying she tells her coach what she is willing to and what not to so makes perfect sense at to why that is the case.
They weren't only friends Williams and her coach used to date! As for her firing him it won't be happening anytime soon. These black females who date white males are very loyal to their white zaddy. If this was a black man she would have fired him after one loss... it's a very known pattern nothing new here!
Two observations: 1. There has been a steady decline in the security of Serena's serve since 2014. It has been far easy to either get break point opportunities or break her serve. in 14/15/16 she could make up the difference because she was fit and still moving well. Since her return, this has been a big problem, as her fitness has not always been there to drag her back into matches. 2. Serena has got to play more matches (i know she was injured a lot last year), I don't think to take off the rest of the year after the USO has helped her at all going into this season. she looked fitter than she has been in recent years at the Open, it would have been good to see her continue in that vein; the Australian open was there for the taking. In this match particularly, Wang just needed to hang in there and allow Serena to beat herself, which ultimately she did with unforced errors. This is also true of her latest match in FED Cup (65 UE). With more matchplay, she can get herself to a level where she is properly ready to contend and win at Majors.
Chesney Couldn’t agree with you more. Hope she is fully committed to do the what is required to get back to her winning ways. Also observed she gets too nervous these days on the court.
Playing more does help with fine tuning, and training harder does help with fitness. However, we’re talking about a 38 year old with a bad knee and other ailments. Rest and recovery are very important for her.
Good points, but I'm not expecting much from Serena in 2020, barely won Auckland, 3rd round AO, then Fed Cup loss...all foreshadows of what's to be expected the rest of the year
Kelvin Brown- 38 can be a weird year physically. For me, I’d learned how to manage the little age related injuries that cropped up in my early-mid thirties. But then I started dealing with loss of speed and slower recovery time. Serena’s always relied on superior athleticism and power. They always overcame the mental lapses she’s been prone to.
no excuses from the top player like Serena... She made errors not because her bad day it is because her opponent make her run another shot or you can say Wang force her to made the errors.
Calm down Missy. Didn't Serena clobbered her 6-1, 6-0 a few months before this at the US Open? Serena losing 7-5 in the 3rd set is not a beatdown. Losing 6-1, 6-0 is a beatdown.
What was writing Patrick...it is joke..🤣🤣🤣 whatever you wrote..but she lost fedcup unseed girl..it is World no.1 comedy...🤣🤣😂😅😅good luck Patrick ...note will help your academy girl and boys'....🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪😏😏
Muscle isn't everything tho. She has great dispositions to outpower almost anyone, but if she had bad skills/ movement/mental strength, power alone wouldn't be enough. Amelie Mauresmo was super muscled too and she didn't win over 20 slams.
As long as she hasn't become a household name, coverage and news will write her name as Qiang Wang, as they did Na Li, Jie Zheng, and Shuai Peng until the girls reached certain level😆
