It's dinner time in QIMR Berghofer’s mosquito lab!
These Aedes aegypti mozzies usually feast on animal blood, but this time lab head Associate Professor Greg Devine is putting his own hand on the line.
Greg's putting himself through this feeding frenzy in the name of #science, as we mark #scienceweek and the upcoming #worldmosquitoday .
World Mosquito Day celebrates the discovery of the connection between malaria transmission and mosquitoes.
Professor Devine and his team are interested in mosquito control and blocking transmission because the only management available for these diseases is to protect against bites in the first instance.
Professor Devine says the feeding process in the lab stings slightly and the lumpiness and swelling wear off quickly.
