As a former player - some grounds had rubbish dressing rooms / rarely find good ones during my day 1990s early 2000’s NSW were using the mini away dressing rooms . QLD used the luxurious home dressing room The SFS (est 1988 ) had horrific tin can away dressing rooms . 2 strapping rooms , fridges, and limited shower room When I played on the SFS, the home rooms had a massive warm up hall / room, 2 medical rooms, hot spa and ice bath/pool . Fridges - More showers etc Like Kogarah oval The home room was massive, spa bath, countless showers , kitchenette The away room is a small room , approx 6 showers , a kitchenette Massive ice bin behind the stand Henson park - funny , both teams shared the same showers SCG - only 1st grade used the members stand Lower grades were down some stairs in the Churchill stand ( now the swans run)
Loved the game back then 3 grades per team - more tactics / angles / set plays Now - watch one game , you’ve seen them all . Referees orchestrate the games . No reserve grade / u23s - pres Cup As a kid , it was great getting to the ground at 12pm and watch same teams battle out three grades - now it’s park football / some girl league 🥱 The Winfield Cup - the game was at its best !!!!!!
Without Manson the Blues would have lost by 20 .One of the toughest series of all time certainly tougher than game 3 2022 and this is why Wally was King what a game.
I remember watching this as a 12 yr old and all the uncle's and Dad not been happy thank God QLD showed real guts to win and in my mind Easily their best Victory ever away from Lang Park.
Sydney showing its usual love for Wally Lewis with the “Wally Golly Guards” for the face and the sign “The Spitting Image” 🙄. This is in reference to Wally spitting at a Gold Coast forward in a Broncos v Gold Coast match that year (he was fined for it).
This game really was the official signification that State of Origin Rugby League is and always will be about Queensland. I’ve seen every game ever played. NSW have never won a game like this QLD finished with 11 on the field that night. Possibly Wally Lewis’s greatest game for QLD. I am a diehard NSW fan but I’ve given up hoping that we might dominate ever again. NSW will win the odd series every now and again but it’s all about QLD. I’m done.
@@jamese4498 ok point. Some, if not all of those patrons at the Caxton when state of origin games are at Suncorp Stadium probably have all the nsw players as people.
If you had followed the game since the mid 60’s and had to listen to the condescending and outright biased commentary you might think that I might have a point
