As you were talking about fearing death it made me think of the old time song "Standing on the Promises" that I sang in church as a kid before I was Lutheran. For me fearing death has to do with my emotions but the Holy Spirit reminds me about the promises He has taught me from the Bible and that is what I need to stand on even if my emotions are telling me something different.

I think pastors are mistaken to say the guy with OCS said he will not change out of pride He is being realist His OCS will not go away But he can be obsessed with things other than the doctrines of the faith For comfort he can read plenty of Luther's writings, pray daily, read the bible daily, etc

I thought for a second you were talking about the regret in the eyes of a dying person when you said you saw regret at deathbeds. My mom died end of February. I managed to make it up to Dallas for her last night and was at her side. I rushed up there because though her mouth was stuck in rigor and she could not speak, I saw regret and anxiety in her eyes. I knew there were secrets she had held about the family that I found out from others after my dad had passed and after my mom’s mind had gone to the point that there was no point trying to discuss it with her. I tested with questions before that showed she stuffed it down. But the last moments, I could tell in her eyes that God granted her clarity enough to look me truly in the eye for the first time in my whole life and regret is exactly what I knew I saw there. My sister who shared circumstances saw the same, for both of us over a FaceTime call. She was too far away and the room was too crowded to say what she needed to. I rushed up to Dallas and I did not confront her or anything. I just made sure to quote as much scripture to her as I could and as many songs as well, all about repentance but all also the forgiveness of Jesus through the cross. By the time she passed, her countenance was more peaceful. I am grateful when God grants deathbed clarity.

I thought the discussion of Denmark and Grundtvig very interesting as the Danish church was very influential on our Icelandic church, our country being a colony of Denmark for centuries. I am a pastor in the national church. I would love for you to lecture us here in Iceland too.

Fun facts in relation to the comments on when he jokingly said next are going to tell me there's no Santa Claus well this isn't entirely true, in the early days of the church there was a Saint Nicholas who was the bishop in Asia Minor and he came from a relatively wealthy family and he would give gifts around Christmas time to the orphans and less fortunate children, this is where we got the tradition story of Santa giving presents to kids all around the world today in the Catholic Church St Nicholas is the patron saint of children.

Store your treasure in Heaven and there your heart will be. Christians should not be friends of this world, nor lovers of things.. Jesus said you have to hate your own life if you want to come be his disciple. So why fear death. The world is already dead in sin, but Jesus came so that any who believe in him can have life.
