As an added note, when your typing in the action name, instead of using quotes you can hit the "TAB" key to bring up the auto translate. This will help you check the spelling, you only need to enter a partial word before hitting "TAB" for it to bring up a small list of words and actions related to those letters, and when you select the action that you want it will put it in coloured brackets for you and you will not need quote marks.

oh i dont think the raise macros are for roleplay. they're for letting people know that you're taking care of that raise so no one wastes a swift cast or double raises
@LuminNox
@LuminNox 2 года назад
That just makes no difference though. With Endwalker you can see the healer's res target in the party list. Same goes for a res buff on a party member. In the heat of the moment you don't look at chat before using your swiftcast res anyway.
@astra.3212
@astra.3212 2 года назад
@@LuminNox might not make sense but still. it's more likely that than for 'roleplay' reasons. in the heat of the moment, they might not even look at the party list and it could be easier to get attention with macros bc of the noise that goes off when used
@LuminNox
@LuminNox 2 года назад
@@astra.3212 It all has its pros and cons. Raise macros are just not super reliable because it delays the raise and queueing might not work properly.
@obeytheknight749
@obeytheknight749 2 года назад
@@LuminNox id also note that the healer's target being in the party list was new to this expansion and a large part of the playerbase isn't used to that being there or it just gets neglected in the heat of battle. Usually a sound effect in chat is a great way to alert the rest of the party without requiring the healers to play chicken with whoever pops swiftcast first. Also as a rez mage main I use a raise macro religiously so both healers can recognize that I'm doing their job for them and to save their mp on more useful spells. And even further, raise "usually" isn't used often in any event so the second delay for a macro most likely won't be the deciding factor when you're already taking the time out of your rotation to revive someone anyway

Most healer mains I know (including me) use Raise macros for non-RP reasons. Raising tends to be mildly panic'd (a reactionary thing since we dont normally preplan raises); so them macro makes sure we don't miss the swiftcast and tend up hardcasting Raise or needing to cancel it to try again. The macro also means we only have one button to press in reaction to deaths instead of two. So in general I agree with not macroing multiple abilities together; I have seen the opposite endorsed for Raise macros specifically.
@samwilkinson9309
@samwilkinson9309 Год назад
I did this at one point but got rid of it, unfortunately on controller it's quicker to light target them but just scrolling down the party list and then casting without clicking to select them. This is good because it casts that 1 ability n them and goes back to being locked onto the target you do have selected, but this doesn't work with the rez macro because it says you're rezzing the boss or whoever you were targetting before light targeting the dead person
@GreyFoxVinzin
@GreyFoxVinzin 2 года назад
The Raise macro "roleplay" i usually have where Swiftcast ISN'T on the macro, but instead only the Revive action itself in the first line with a /p & command in the 2nd line, purely to let the other healer know "I gots this man/woman" and HOPEFULLY they don't use their own Swift. Short, sweet, and to the point. Great overall list.

Honestly that doesn't help me at all and I don't know anyone who find them helpful. The chat Box is a far off corner of the screen where I don't want to look mid combat. The party list is way closer which displays this information and way more. As a healer you already have an eye on it constantly.

i just normaly wait 5 sec and wait what other ppl do because the most healer just panic when someone is dead. @@rivenoak this kind of stuff, to me, is redundant. as a healer, seeing two people die, I'd just wait a couple seconds for the other healer to raise, then raise the other one. as a rdm seeing 3+ dead, I'd consider priority (healer > tank > dps) and raise the one in the middle if both healers are alive. critical and quick thinking makes this kind of stuff pretty much automatic, tbh.

Not a fan of Raise macros. It's much better to do it manually. Also, there should be the slightest discussion between Healers on really hard content about who raises in what order and who raises first. I for example play Whitemage a lot, so my static Sage knows to res after I do because I can thin air the mana cost and they can't. When there's 2 dead people, we also know to raise in a specific order. Sage starts from bottom going up, Whitemage starts from top going down. This is 100% better than a Res Macro, because by the time I hear your Macro go off I'll already have manually res'd that person anyway. It really just announces our fuck up in chat, that's about the only thing it's done for me as a healer. More importantly, it's a common sense solution that every healer can understand regardless of knowing whether your partner has swift up or not. The first death is on me as the Whitemage, further deaths after this are on the Sage. 3+ deaths are on us both to figure out who resurrects the third person, but usually 3 deaths is a pretty big issue for hard content and debatably a wipe anyway.

One I think is great for tank is this will use your action on your focus target. Say your tanking and you want to focus target a mob and watch for a skill to stun or interrupt. You can use /ac "interject" without ever deselecting your main target.

Not a combat macro, but I use a QoL macro scheme that creates a expandable/collapsible menu on the hud that allows me to change jobs easily, without much clutter. It involves using the base class hotbars to store the buttons and using a macro to swap them into a shared hotbar.

The macro icons next to party members is REALLY good imo on astro. When you want to give card buffs to people. Its nice to just click the play card next to whichever person you want to give it to, that being ranged or melee dps. Makes it really easy to be on top of it even when mechanics are happening. At first I was using mouse over macros but in chaotic situations sometimes I would mouse over the wrong person. This method also saves keybind bloat so you don't even need to keybind play.
@Sibula

I would imagine it's just as easy to mouseover the right person in the party list as it is to hit the button next to them on the party list, plus you save a hotbar for other uses. Anyway, if it works for you, good.

The Aurora with multiple target idea at the end has another good use: If you still have hotkeys left you can easy your Blackmage life a lot. I use Strg-Shift and a number to Aetherskate to the partymember of that number. Makes it far easier to react to stuff and get around. Then again it basically eats a whole hotbar so beware of that. I believe the reason gtoff is a macro option is because there's an actual option in the settings to just have ground targeting always go to where your mouse is, with no need to click. Similarly, there's a macro option to turn off facing your target when using an ability. The only time I'm aware of that this comes in handy is that heals don't require you to face your target for the cast to go off, making it easier to heal people when glare (turn away) effects are going off. Damaging spells however will give you an error if you're turned slightly off from facing the target so it's not worth it in my opinion, but still an interesting thing to note and possibly usable for some ogcd heals.

My favorite use of macros and hotbars has been to make a kind of automated sidebar menu where I have different categories in one sidebar and the second sidebar showing the last clicked category. For example, left of my chatbox, I have two vertical hotbars side by side. The left one has the tank, healer, 3 DPS, crafter, gatherer, minion and mount icons set in it, spaced for readability. If I click the tank icon, the bar on its right updates and displays all my tank gearsets; if I click my healer button, then it shows all my healer gearsets, etc. Then I can click those icons to switch to that job and gearset. The reason I have 3 DPS icons is for melee, ranged and magic DPS since they all couldn't fit on a single hotbar. As for mounts and minions, I just have my favorite minions and mounts in those along with the last icon being the actual Mount and Minion menu shortcut. The way I make it work is that I pretty much 'sacrifice' one hotbar from every crafting job and turn it invisible. However, in those hotbars, I have the content of each category button set in them and when I click a category button, the macro simply copies and pastes the content of one of these hotbars into the right vertical hotbar, overwritting its content and showing what I've set for that category. It's less cluncky overall and much more clean in my opinion that having 2 hotbars cluttered with gearset icons and some random mounts and minions left and right. And besides, I pretty much have access to more content on 2 hotbars than I would with 3 or 4.

I swapped off of controller after playing it (and clearing three ultimates on it) for over 8 years. As of now, I'm playing with the tactical assault commander (ff14) hori keypad. The most useful macros for me are ones which change my hotbar loadout, similar to how you would on a controller with the R1 trigger. I've set it so that my middle-mouse button will swap all of my single-target actions to their AoE versions, and vice-versa. The TAC does not have issues with button limitations, but it still allows me to be fully comfortable with zero hand strain on every job. The most notable of classes that perform well with this is Samurai, who has pretty much an AoE version of every skill in its arsenal. I had gotten used to this hotbar swapping style from playing on controller, and was surprised to find not many people do this same thing on keyboard and mouse when it can save me a solid 7-9 buttons on some jobs like this. Just for the record, this does NOT invoke the issues of input delay, as the macro only swaps the hotbar's actions around, it does not actually try to use them, I still need to press the button which is not itself a macro.

As a controller player I can relate how good it is to easily switch between hotbars. I use controller so the F2 to F8 was a compromise to make it quicker than scrolling down the party list. I do 100% have to make it spam the abilities on my macros too, I may have to try the sprint on too, I'm a button spammer as it is but if I don't have as much time to spam sprint that would help to confirm it goes through

IMO, there is *one* situation in which it's okay to macro a GCD. Using a controller, and DPSing as a healer with and /Focustarget . in this manner, you're able to spam stone/aero/malefic/gravity/whatever *while still having the tank highlighted as your primary target*, and can switch back to casting heals on them with a single button press, without needing to mash the D-Pad re-targetting your tank or your enemy. I don't reccommend you do this in endgame content, for obvious reasons, but it's great for casual/levelling content or your daily roulettes.

actually works on other abilities too, not just ground targeted ones. A popular WAR macro is /ac "Holmgang" because if you're tethered target dies during Holmgang, you lose the effect but this prevents that because you cast it on yourself instead. A few other "honorable mentions" I think worth looking at would be to use a sprint/mount macro in slot 98 and 99 and mapping those to your R3/L3 buttons on a controller. This let's you click your joystick to use those macros. I keep the mount one on R3 (the stick used for camera) since I definitely won't move for the cast time and put sprint on L3 (the stick used for movement) since I'm already running when I need to sprint somewhere. Mostly for crafters, but you can macro a proc ability without a wait time and it works like a sloppy "if" statement/conditional. For example, if you wanted a macro to use precise touch which is only allowed when quality is good/excellent, but otherwise use basic touch (or something else), you could do two likes like /ac "precise touch" /ac "basic touch" .... This will attempt to do precise touch and if it works, you'll be animation locked an not do basic touch, but the wait command will still happen, so you'll still wait 3 seconds before doing the 3rd line. If you can't do precise touch, it'll fail and there's no animation lock so you'll go into basic touch. Lastly, for controller people who don't know, up/down on the D-pad without hitting X to confirm with select your party member without deselecting the enemy. I don't know if there's a name for this, but I call it a soft select. Then after casting on someone, it will snap back to the original target (for example, an enemy). You could use this while healing to glare at an enemy until your tank needs healing, hit down twice to soft select him, ogcd heal, and you're already looking at the enemy again. This is about as close to a effect we have on controller, but not nearly as good.

> actually works on other abilities too, not just ground targeted ones. A popular WAR macro is /ac "Holmgang" because if you're tethered target dies during Holmgang, you lose the effect but this prevents that because you cast it on yourself instead. This is incorrect. If your target dies, you still have the effect active. All that is lost is the immobility that was given to the target (since it's now dead).

Not a bad idea! The only problem is if you use another macro in between, it will cancel this macro (I think? Unless they changed it) so it could be good if you don't have any other macros on your reaper. Another good alterative to this is adding an extra hotbar to your HUD, just make it 1 button, the arcane circle in this case, and make it BIG, and above your hotbar so its hard to miss, that way whenever your look at your hotbar or the encounter in general, you'll always see that cooldown ticking :)

I just thought the text was just a fun bonus thing you could do with it. And yeah of course you can use it for RP reasons but it was more for practicality. Unless you're going for World 1st or something I think the benefits of the macro to alert other healers who you are swift raising outweighs the loss of DPS. Of course I am thinking of situations when you do not have contact with the other healer like Discord or something. In that case that macro is not needed.

Macros are not for roleplay. They are for communicating with your party members, so they know not to raise the person you just raised or that the damage buff is up and it's a good time for your burst window or LB or that the boss has been stunned and melee don't have to run from the AoE. Yes, there may be other ways to see these but most people (especially Sprouts) don't pay attention to tiny markers and using the chat is much better

Most useful combat macro I’ve found as a console player is Dragon Sight. Console players can’t click their target obviously, so rather than mashing the up or down button however many times to pick my target, use dragon sight, and go back to my enemy target within the short time the GCD is rolling, I pick my target at the start of the battle as my Focus Target and have Dragon Sight in the macro set to always fall on my focus target. The last line of the Macro is to just execute the action as normal for solo content. /merror off /aerror off /ac “Dragon Sight” (x11) /ac “Dragon Sight” (with no target tag) /micon “Dragon Sight” I’m still leveling Dragoon(only level 72 right now) so I haven’t been able to use it for any end game content, but the few times I’ve used it in dungeons, it works well when I actually remember to pick a focus target. That’s not on the macro, though. That’s my scatter(impact) brain

Just because I haven't seen it mentioned, but you only need to put quotes around the name of the skill in the macro when the skill name has multiple words in it. So Aurora is only one word, so it wouldn't require quotation marks, but "Shake It Off" is multiple words, so it would require quotes.

I think it would be beneficial for all that you explain what these macros not only do - But what they mean as well. Example: "/merror" and "/micon" stands for "Macro Error" and "Macro Icon". The "m" stands for Macro. You can also use "/macroerror" and "/macroicon" in the actual macro as well. This will allow a newer player to understand WHY you are using said syntax in your macros. Also "/gtoff" stands for "Ground Targeting Off". When you use a ground targeting skill you can see that when you try and use it without gtoff you will see at the top where it says "Ground Targeting Mode".

Anyone know a good macro to like "toggle" Ctrl or another modifying input? Holding Ctrl or shift during a fight to switch between actions hurts my hand (old injuries flaring up). Right now I have a macro that rotates two sets of hotbars (move hot bar 1 to 5, move 2 to 1, 5 to 2, 3 to 5, 4 to 3, 5 to 4) so the keybinds essentially have two different actions depending on which hot bars are rotated in (similar to pad players) Problem is that it is just a tad too slow to be reliable. It works when I'm single weaving and the animation is short, but double weaving I have to just try to do with a mix of clicking and keybinds (depending on which is being used). Sometimes even double weaving just by clicking (which is terrible). Any other ideas to approach this?

Literally the first "don't do this" is something I was trying to do for lazily playing my job(blm). Automated dps. It's garbage dps for sure, but it was more of a "can I do this to the point where it flows perfectly fine" over actual dps. After coming up with something, I told a buddy of mine - who apparently can't play blm for some reason - and he wanted me to share it with him so he could play the job. Apparently he was so bad at it he needed a 4 button macro that would run through roughly the spells I use so he could be better. At the time, my dps was something like 12-13k or maybe 14k on a dummy(pre endwalker), can't recall. All I do recall is that the dps from the macro's was about 7-8k. xD Again, I never used it in any live situation. Never got past testing phase, but it sure as shit was funny hearing "Don't put GCD's in your macro" when literally that's what I was doing. xD

As a controller player, I don't really use macros other than for Sprint and Raise (not swiftcast). TECHNICALLY I don't use a "macro" per se with Sprint, at least... not in the traditional fashion. See, as a controller player there is an option to change my thumb stick presses function, ranging from draw/sheathe weapon/lock on, to sit/lockon, or just lockon, OR, and this is where sprint comes in "Execute Macro #99" so I have my right thumbstick set to execute macro 99, and made a sprint macro conveniently on macro 99, so I can sprint at the touch of a button. Though, thinking about it now, I might revamp it to spam sprint instead of just having it once. Other than that, I find macros to be wayyyy too clunky to actually be useful for me personally. I've tried some of the QoL macros like for quick ground targeting for Asylum and the like but... Iunno... I just didn't like it. I'm pretty quick at setting those down where I want them without macros anyway so, ymmv. I've also tried those weird healer DPS macros that use and so that you can attack the enemy either by targeting the mob or the main tank or w/e cause it'll either attack the target, or the target's target, but I just didn't like how it messed with my overall flow so I stopped using those ones as well. SO yeah, I just don't really use macros lol

6:27 not only auto attacks but the minor amount of time you would have to spend to click and target each person to use each ability, adds up rather exponentially fast. .25 sec each time, say.. 8 person team, if you are trying to cast a HoT on each person single target like, 8x.25 seconds is a LOT of time vs, being able to mouseover and cast mouseover cast, and this is just in the "im standing perfectly still" situation...

An addendum about Mouse-Over macros and controllers. While its true we can't do as fast, they are kinda baked in our inputs. We press Up or Down to "pre-target" someone, use skill, this will make our skill act with "mouse-over" them and not target them completely. But its slower than mouse its true.

Raise macros are more to inform your co-healer (or rez mage) that you are reviving that person so there's no double-res happening. One thing I would recommend is use the auto translate dictionary instead of putting the action in quotes. It's much easier and doesn't require you to remember the full name. Simply start typing the ability name then press tab to complete it. You can still put quotes around it if you want to but they won't be needed. The only job this doesn't work for is Blue Mage because their spells aren't in the auto-translate dictionary. In regards to /merror (short for Macro Error), that does not need to be at the top of the list. Just like you've done with /micon (Macro Icon), it can be at the bottom. For controller users, you can soft target things which works similar to mouse over. Take an ability like Aurora for example. With a mouse, you can have it so it casts on whoever your mouse is hovering over (and if there's nobody or it's an invalid target it will use on yourself). Using a controller, you can use Up/Down on your D-pad to scroll the party list while still targetting the boss. If you then use Aurora, it will use it on who you are highlighting without changing who you are targetting and therefore, you don't lose any auto-attacks. I do not know if the tag works with this to allow for the macro you used in the video for Heart of Corundum. If I remember when I get home, I'll test it. Another tag you forgot to mention is . What this means is the target of your target. In most cases, the target of your target will be whoever is tanking at that time. If that happens to be you, it will target you. It can be helpful if there's a boss mechanic that causes them to target a random party member and you want to place your Aurora or Heart of Corundum on them. You don't have to worry about figuring out who it is targetting. I see so many macros that use on abilities that require a target (Aurora, Raise, etc.). The tag on anything that isn't a ground targetting effect is completely useless. It doesn't cause a problem but it's just wasting character space in your macro. Same with using on abilites that must target yourself like Swiftcast or Surecast or abilites that auto-target yourself if you don't specify a valid target (Auroroa, Heart of Corundum, etc). The and tags should only be used on ground targetting effects.

I hate that tbh. by the time one healer presses that macro and swiftcast, the other healer probably already did unless they specifically wait a bit. But then what happens if both healers wait a bit? Its jus silly. Its why I always prefer to say ill res first and ill start from the bottom of the party list. That way if 1 d00d dies, we both know who is swiftcasting immediately. And if 2 people die, we both know who were ressing.
