So the short answer is no. Nothing wrong with that, Boss Katana is still a very affordable quality amp, specially for practice. Honestly would love to see some content about QOTSA use of delays and modulation since Era Vulgaris, there is a lot to explore there.
Surprised at all the "Nailed it!' comments. No criticism toward your attempts, but that Katana sounds as close to an Ampeg as a Fender Frontman 10 does. It's got that 6" speaker practice amp tone.
Awesome!!! Boss needs to figure out a better was to market these Katana features while also making them more easy to share and transfer into your Katana maybe via Bluetooth instead of having to connect a cable to your computer… that’s the main reason I got rid of mine, I hated having to physically connect it to my computer to tweak sounds ☹️
Funny, I thought the Crunch OD got much closer. The Overdrive had too much of that brittle high mids thing going on. I would have added some gain to the Crunch OD pedal, instead of the amp, because the amp gain just made it sound flubby.
When I try to get qotsa tones on my katana I always use the crunch channel, mind you I don't use pedals but the standard variation of the crunch channel can do a sort of fuzzy overdrive that might not be too close in reality but sounds pretty good.
I'm a bit late to this video, but if gain is a problem, some light compressor would ease the playing without destroying the dynamics like a normal/heavy compressor
I don't know too much about pedals but i feel like it needed more... saturation? But without more gain? idk maybe push the 250db more. Also, does the EQ have its own independent volume control? So I have the katana artist mk1... I paused video in sections and copied all the settings. My amp actually just goes clean when the gain and drive are at levels you show. Why?
Hey, I really love your videos, and it's not a guarantee you'll see this, but on the off chance that you do, for the love of god what song is that you're playing from 9:24 to 9:46? I've heard the entire qotsa discography, i've heard them crooked vultures, i've heard kyuss, i've heard it all (besides eagles of death metal), but for the life of me i just CANNOT remember what song that is, i swear i've heard it before, i know i have, i just cant remember which song it is edit: i literally just remembered it's do it again after posting this comment, lmfao
It just occurred to me that Boss should just use the names of the pedals they're emulating, at least when it's an actual Boss pedal. It's bizarre that they don't.
Great sound! I have a Katana MKII and I'm a bit confused when it comes to using it with my computer, do you mic the amp when recording? Or can you record straight into the interface without using the amp as a monitor? Thanks!
