So agree. Today’s footballers may be fitter and more athletic but I would rather watch that any day. I was a fanatic and although a Liverpool fan I would go and watch a game anywhere when you could just turn up on the day. I found it amazing that I could recognise nearly every player. Nowadays I can’t do that even on HD TVs. The one person I had forgotten was Carl Harris. Quite surprised Billy Bremner was still there; I thought he left for Hull in late 75. Thanks for posting whoever it is
i always thought he was much better than he got credit for. Thomas and a center forward good in the air (McDonnald for England or Latchford when Thomas was at Everton) would guarantee goals.
Match of the Day with Jimmy Hill and The Big Match with Brian Moore were proper highlights programs back in the 70s and 80s. None of the endless side chatter and analysis...just here are the highlights and here are the league tables.
John Jensen QPR were a fine team for 18 months. That isn’t good enough. Even the finest teams don’t win it every season. You’ve got to be there or thereabouts for a couple of years to have a decent chance to win it. I remember watching QPR at Anfield in December 77. Liverpool were crap and QPR even worse. I also saw QPR lose to City at Maine Road two months later . Less than two years after being so good QPR were really mediocre. Really enjoyed watching that however. Very professional performance by Leeds and really good stuff by QPR. I always liked John Hollins You may have heard in the commentary that Liverpool won more away games than anyone that season. Strange for a negative team
@@steffanhoffmann8937: "Most natural football." Great line: Well written. The mercenary xeno-powder puff football we have today doesn't compare. The new rules stipulating safety to satisfy soft sapiens playing in manicured and readily drained pitches allow the outsiders to ply their "special skills."
I can be more specific. Steve Kindon's goal kept Wolves in front until 14 minutes from the end, then Keegan, Kennedy and Toshack really put the boot in. I couldn't bear to listen to the radio, and the BBC news showed the Rangers team watching the game at Molyneux on a TV screen in a studio somewhere. Really though it was Norwich that did for us. I don't expect Rangers ever to get that close again.
Allan, Thanks very much for this great game from the Big Match. I remember this season well when QPR went so close to the title. Tremendous performances from Phil Parkes, Gerry Francis and Stan Bowles!
I was at the Wolves L'pool game - at half-time we were winning 1-0......Birmingham were losing 1-0 at Sheff Utd - we were safe, Blues were relegated and QPR were champs! 45 minutes later we were down and L'Pool were top! Apart from my obvious sorrow I also felt for QPR too - that was such a fine team you had! Bowles, Francis, Givens, Thomas....all at their peak!
Thanks fella, nice words. To be fair Liverpool were a decent team just sad it was our only chance at the big one. I always liked Wolves, went away a few times and seemed like a decent passionate bunch. Also we got one of my heroes from you - Bob Hazel. Doing nicely now - all the best.
Shepherd's Bush, and we're served by more tube stations than them. The Arse's closest are Arsenal and Holloway Road now, and Chelscum is nearest to Fulham Road, while Shepherd's Bush, Shepherd's Bush Market and especially White City are all in easy walking distance of Loftus Road.
Yeah, I remember that Norwich match too! Rangers had been on such a great run since the turn of the year and would have been worthy champions. I was also at Molineux when you beat us 4-2 in October 73 and was very impressed by your lot that day too! And I was there to witness you play us off the park last September! I've always admired the way QPR play football - and I wish you all the best for this season......hopefully, we will meet-up again in the Prem before too long!
my god. the furious constant pace and excitement of football then. Never be as good. the current quaffed and careful pretty boys couldn’t keep up if they tried. miss it so much
I still have a Shoot magazine from 75/76 on QPR. To think now the players said they drank and smoked everyday and still ram rugged. Liverpool cheated to win title.
@@desplatt842 Yes 18 months should have been enough to win the league title in the 1975-76 season.QPR Were a diffrent class this season. But Liverpool pipped them to the title. Lets be honest Liverpool were The equivalent of watching paint dry.
Im not a fan of Qpr. But looks like there had a good season and came on very strong in the second half of that season. Great side plenty of star players whom worked well for the team matched leeds and looked like there wanted it more good crowd mind u leeds all ways took plenty down there plus it was a aging leeds team with new faces coming into the team but well done Qpr
I was there that day. Not long after that 3-2 defeat at Norwich which killed our title hopes. After this there was that agonising wait for Liverpool to play at Wolves. 14 minutes from glory...
Additional. In Rangers' last 15 games, they won 13, drew one, lost one, the sort of form that Man U now get towards the end of a season. The irony is that the loss was against Norwich, party poopers but no great shakes, and the draw was a 0-0 away to Sheffield United, who finished bottom of the table.
Brian Moore hated us. One time about 1972 Lorimer scored a brilliant volley from the edge of the box against Palace at Selhurst Park... the ball dipped and went in off the underside of the bar....Moore commentated "Ohhh how UNLUCKY can you get" Tosser !!!
Rangers fans singing ''You'll never walk alone'' at 25min. Looks like they had given up their title hopes before Liverpool even kicked a ball at Molineux :D
