Mike Ewer my thoughts exactly. QPR had a decent side back then, how they were 4-0 down at half time I’ll never know. One of those freak games you sometimes get.
Two good QPR goals not given by the ref and, as I was at the game, there was also a decision for offside given against Kenny Wharton IIRC where he was definitely in his own half when he received the ball and only had Hucker to beat which would have made it 4-6. Football has been plagued by shit refs since Adam & Eve left Eden.
Ist DIV 1 game I ever went to. I was neutral. we were from Bracknell , my boss was a newcastle fan and he took 3 of us with him , we were about 15 and I hoped for a 3-3 all draw. I got more than I bargained for!. I'm pretty sure waddle played as a teenager in that match, but the quality is not good enough for me to recognise anyone.
Waddle was in his 20s mate, he started late as a professional. If I remember there was a rumour going round that Waddle had said that was the point he knew he wanted to leave Newcastle, a hat trick, 5 scored away from home by the team and they still never won. I listened to this match as a Newcastle fan on Metro Radio, 4-0 up at half time my Dad said you've won that one, I said it isn't over yet. Every match you went to after that must have seemed boring lol
What a game. I wasn't aware of this until today. Surely one of the all time great top flight results. Here was me thinking Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal was the best turnaround. Big thumbs up QPR. Howay the lads.
