Evan, this is a great series! And it’s clear that you’ve strained to be as objective as possible. If you don’t have access to an IC-705, yiu can’t help that. But there really isn’t a true winner until that one is in the mix. Thanks for the run through, OM! 73 de K4FMH

When the KX1 was king, I didn’t have the cash for it so I built a Hendricks PFR-3. Now that’s a quirky rig that hasn’t been available for a long time. KD1JV design, internal tuner, batteries, etc. I should really pull it out and put it back on the air. Thanks for making this series! 73, Tom VA2NW

Got to eBay, check out the SOLD prices for the KX1. I did last night and couldn't believe. The KX1 is a goldmine! Wayne and Eric really knocked it out of the park with this rig. Still have mine, will be buried with it.

I really love my KX2 it’s the smallest full featured radio I can carry when traveling. You are correct find the radio with the features you need it will serve you will. For me to have a radio I can take on planes and operate at the Hotel lets me enjoy the hobby when traveling.

Evan...did you see where the MTR 4B is only going to be done once more and that MTR is shifting focus on a redesigned and re-engineered version of the popular MTR3B! It is their hope to have these out in Fall of 2024 if possible, but no guarantees. I have been checking since you did the first side by side with the MTR4B to get one, but they haven't offered any up for sales since before Dec 2023. I will hold off now for the newer version of the MTR3B (as I agree, why have 80 on a super small portable CW only radio?)

KX2 isn’t perfect, but it’s about as good as it gets when you can only grab one radio and you want to be ready for anything. You are spot on with your assessment here, Evan! I came to the same conclusions when I only had room for one radio in my bag going to Australia. 🦘
