Donald thank you so much for this upload. Your enthusiasm for this razor sold me on wet shaving. At 63 years old I’d never used a brush or DE blade razor in my life. I purchased this razor, synthetic brush, Arko soap stick 3 months ago. So after 47 years of shaving found that wet shaving is absolutely fantastic. Thanks one more time 👍
Once again the Brian Setzer of the wet shaving world has Rocked This Town! 5 days worth of growth wiped out in one pass. I definitely need this razor in my arsenal! I'm a tight ass! I'll wait the two weeks. :) Great review brother!
Got my Ming today and it looks great. No plating issues or cracks or anything and im going to shave in a few days with it. Not sure what's with the OneBlade hype all over the internet though. The Genesis is probably the most expensive razor in mass production that i've ever seen and yet many people are willing to buy it, because according to some people, this is the ''best'' razor ever made. We're talking about a razor which purpose is to hold a blade in a proper angle. I mean, how good can it be compared to a safety razor? Not to mention that both (Genesis and Core) razors are designed to work only with one type of blade which is manufactured only by Feather and from what i've heard it's meant for one shave only. Oh and a pack of 10 blades cost somewhere between 6-8$ which is way too much. I'm not saying that the Genesis or the Core razors shave bad, but there is no way in hell im going to pay 400$ for a metal razor (even if it's the next best thing since sliced bread) or 50/70$ for a plastic one plus 100+$ for blades for one year. For 400$ alone I can get the Rockwell 6S or the T model for 100$ and spend the rest of the money for a lifetime supply of DE blades and maybe some creams/soaps/aftershaves etc. Over the years i've met many addicted shavers from all around the world and im sure atleast one of them have one or it's going to buy one and I might ask for a test drive, just to see what's the hype all about.
Emanuel Some wet shavers say, they swap to safety razors because of the deadly cost of cartridges... ...and then go out and buy a OneBlade... The world is funny some times. C'est la vie.
The One Blade and it is finally available in India for an insane, jaw dropping 51,000 Rupees. You could buy an entry level commuter motorcycle for the same price!
Hi Don. Let me share my experience with you: About two months ago I ordered this Qshave adjustable razor for US$ 6.98 at AliExpress for free shipping. Razor looks great. Unfortunately my razor has some serious issues with unequal blade exposure and alignment. The adjustment does not work properly, too. I will dispose of it, eventually. I am glad you are lucky with your Ming Shi and Qshave razors. Regards, Patrick
Patrick Eruimy i have the same problem with both q shave razors i have. There's a couple ways to fix it. 1. Take the razor apart and reassemble it but turn the base plate 180 degrees. 2. When the razor has a blade in it check it against the back of your hand to feel the blade catching hairs or skin. If it's not then grab the cap with a finger and thumb and push toward the aggressive side gently and check against the back of your hand again. Repeat till perfect. 3. Just try flipping the cap 180 degrees. 4. Try a combination of 1&3. If the blade is actually crooked then try putting the blade in the cap and make sure the blade tab is totally flush against the side of the cap then press the handle into the cap to assemble. Any of my above ideas or a combination of them will fix the problem.
Sting of Truth Thanks a lot for your tips! 👍🏼👍🏼 I don't know why, but I have not tossed it yet. When I am in the mood, I shall try it out. Right now I don't know if I want to invest any effort in this cheap piece of crap, since I have so many enjoyable razors.
Got a Qshave from AliExpress for £10 and an unbranded one from eBay for £5.20. As you found, identical. Subsequently ordered a black Qshave from AliExpress for £14 - prices have gone up - and it's a beautiful razor. Great razor and as good as any I've had. I've heard people say it's not a beginner's razor, but I think it is fine set at the lower end and, for me, it's very manoeuvrable for all three passes. I've used it on 6 without any problems.
Hi Chris glad you found the QShave amazing how the price went up - lol IT's a great razor and some say aggressive so I always tell a person who is interested in getting one to start on the low numbers and work up to whats comfortable for them.
Don, some doing a three pass shave say start high and dial down, others start high and dial down. I guess it's whatever works. But you're absolutely right with your advice about starting low if you're a new shaver. Like your videos. Unfussy, to the point and at a good pace. You don't overexplain.
I bought the black q shave on Amazon with the stand for £21 shipped. Razor had a really bad blade alignment problem and top cap was very loose. Bought a Ming Shi 2000s from China for £9 shipped and it was perfect. QC just not quite there but when you get a good one it's a great razor. Effortlessly gives me a bbs shave in 3 passes.
Greetings from Montréal, Québec, Canada...I have seen a few videos about this 'Qshave Safety Razor', but did enjoy yours because you reminded me of my late Father. He used to shave with such razor in the 60-70' After starting to shave in 75-76 (I was 15-16... I'm 59 now) with a plastic handle Gillette Twin blades, it always scared me to use such model because of its weight, but now, I feel I want to try it...not sure about the success of my shavings because I have 'Sensitive Skin' but shall give it a try!!! Looking at the SPEED you are shaving, it almost gives me 'Goose bumps' in seeing you cut either your upper or lower lip....My god!?! Ha Ja Ha But still...I do/did enjoy your video and shall look foraward to following you on you web page!!! Have a Great week!!!
Padre so sorry the responce is 3 years late just saw it and thanks for the kind words I hope you adventures in wet shaving have been great thanks for watching
I've looked at both of these razors in the past, and didn't realize they were identical. I purchased the Ming Shi razor recently, that's why I'm here. Like many others, I had problems with blade alignment, but I figured I needed practice loading it up. Since I only have one shave under my belt, I'll try the tips I see posted in these comments. I paid $14.00 delivered for the Ming Shi, so it's still a great value.
Thanks for watching Tee, yes give an another try I think by following some of the excellent advice of other here you'll be surprised by the results. Let us know how you did!
I tried a tip I saw here, about putting the blade on the head first, and pushing the plate/handle down on the head. That seemed to work very well, as the blade didn't move when I assembled the razor. I was able to get a pretty close balance on both sides of the blade, with good aggressiveness on 3-1/2 setting. I think I'll keep the razor. :-)
From another shave review site, the guy said ''Merkur " did not renew it's patent for the Futur and a Chinese company copied it. That's why the Q-shave is almost identical to the Futur. The only slight difference is the handle style . I would suggest that Merkur 's quality would be outstanding compared to the Q-shave , since it's a German Company. For $10 , I'll buy one and see for myself
Interesting razor, and I'll have to look into it. The Personna Blue Comfort Coated blades are my very favourite and most used blades. Just ordered 200 more of them. My wife likes them and my son also started using them. Best wishes, George
@@MrDonXX I have three more to add to the list... my daughter asked for a Safety Razor for her birthday in Match, and I picked her up a Gillette Flare Tip Super Speeded and Vikings Blade Chieftain Jr. I got her boyfriend a Gillette Flare Tip and her son... my grandson a 1966 Gillette Slim Adjustable for his Birthday along with a shaving bowls brush, stand and got them all a varieties of Shaving Soap products. It does seem that there are more and more people becoming interested and switching to wet shaving. Perhaps the comeback will gain more momentum? I think it is. Good to see it. Blessings to your and your...
Qshave excellent razor having got one myself. The gent said that ur blade box looked like a tampon box, well as a personna blade user myself, I would love to be able to purchase 100 blades in such a small box here in the UK(No such luck). Keep up the good work, love ur videos.
It's amazing to me how the difference is so vast on the same product. I'm glad I pointed it out so WetShavers can see if you don't need something the next day you can save a whole lot of money. Thanks for watching John.
Hello Don, I bought the Qshave razor about a week and a half ago and WOW! what a terrific razor. It is aggressive/efficient but with out it feeling aggressive on the face.
I'm a one pass guy because that's all I ever need hope you find the razor a good fit please go slow they tend to be slightly aggressive on the reports I'm not hearing
@@MrDonXX thanks. I take short cuts and go wtg, quickly across on face, chin, lip and atg with mostly one lather up. 34C HD is my regular razor but thought I'd try this Futur lookalike to see what it's like. My current DE blade choices are Gillette yellow 'sharpedge', silver blue and the odd Feather, albeit infrequently. Just waiting on a supply of Gillette permasharp greens (Indian) to try.
No such luck finding any of these for under $10 anymore, at least when I looked last week. So I purchased from Maggard with a blade sampler pack. About the same price as I could find it in China, but it arrived in 2 days.
@@MrDonXX absolutely! It wasn't a knock on the video at all! Just a heads up for people finding this video now :D the video is extremely useful, and I hope people can support Maggard. The price is better than in China sometimes and the shipping time is awesome.
I bought the Ming Shi on a lark. It was part of an order from Maggard's. The other cheapie was a brush ($7) from Stirlings also on a lark as part of larger order. Both were purchased about 2 years ago and both remain my daily drivers.
I already ordered this one from China, I am really curious how it performs I never shaved with an adjustable razor. Really glad I saw this review thanks.
Most of the Music I use is listed in the description or the comment section of the video it usually at the end of the written story - Music - Sthlm Sunset - Ehrling ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uoEhoGt4mIw.html
Great shave & review Don. I watched Geofatboy's review of this razor and he was also equally impressed with this razor. I'll have to get me one next pay day along with some soaps.
took exactly two weeks to get here and we'll worth the wait. I'm giving it 4 days worth of growth before I use it. I was impressed with how good it looked and felt. on another note.. if I wanted to send you a shaving cream to review.. how would I do that? P.M. Me on the details if that's cool?
Hi, Brain, Glad you liked the razor most people are finding that it does a wonderful job and now the question remains why are people spending $400.00 on OneBlade ? I Also PM you on google chat if you don;t see it just email me on MrDon@WetTheFace.com I'll respond.
Thank you for a great shave video. Might I say it makes me sick when I see these other guys shaving with razors 150-200 dollars. Why evan bother with a DE RAZOR. It would be cheaper using Gillette cartridges.
Yes but its what ever floats your boat. Are these the bestqulity no but it get the job done you still have to watch out some are them can be aggressive thanks for watching
I will be using mine more now I have also purchased a new kind of Razor from QShave today maybe this one might be just as good I'll do some tests and report it with a video in the future.
*_It started getting aggressive as I used it then I found the Occams Razor Enhanced Nano and well.. I never looked back. I stick to what works best for me (unless I have to do a review) Remember this was from 2017 that's 4 years ago_*
Believe it or not I just got my STEP FATHER into Traditional WetShaving 💈😁✌️💈 I offered him my 1949 Gillette SuperSpeed with so happens to be his BIRTHYEAR!! Lol suffice it to say I converted one!!! (I think he still uses Barbasol)
Wonderful news spreading the word and what a bonus giving him his birth razor amazing I want to hear more about his Journey Mike - Tell him I wish him the best
I have the Qshave branded one and it is an awesome razor for $15.. Got it on amazon. I also have a tto qshave long handle and an old schick krona that was either my dads or grandpas that I found tucked away. I have a 100 pack of shark brand blades i got from amazon for $6 shipped, theyre fucking awesome. The qshave is my fav of the 3 razors I have. Love it, I do agree 100 on the handle i wish it had some texture to it. What website did you get the $5 one from that came from China?
Thanks for watching it was such a long time ago I'm sure even if I could find it the price would be different. Ever since I did the video the price went up many times already. what a great find old schick krona nice.
@@MrDonXX i actually checked out ali express and they have em cheap from china. I got a 3 piece qshave "classic" short handled one for $6 since i dont have a 3 piece one.
I also have a Qshave razor. It is a very good razor for the price. It's interesting if you compare Qshave with Rockwell 6S which one is aggressive at 3 settings? Thanks a lot for great, positive review.
I have recently tried R4 on the Rockwell and find it a little too aggressive for me but as my blade gets duller on the 6C R3 does not shave as good so I have to move to R4 which allows me more shaves until I replace the blade and go back to setting R3
@@MrDonXX I went right up the plates to #6 and found it still wasn't aggressive enough (not nearly as aggressive as the Merkur Futur). I contacted Rockwell customer service to see if they might offer another plate (a #7/8) and they told me others had requested this, but no plans from them. So I am selling it and using the Parker Variant I bought as a replacement which is aggressive enough at mid settings, just like the Futur was.
So you've bought two clones of a £50 razor and only looking at one of them and shouldn't you try any adjustable razor on the lowest setting first then work up?
I used mine once and didn't like it all. The size and weight is an issue. It gave me a bad shave as well. Better stick to a light and nimble 3 piece razor.
I can't decide how I feel about this vs the Merkur futur. I'm guessing they ripped off the design from Merkur which makes me feel bad about buying it. However the price difference is huge and makes me question how much margin Merkur are adding and if they are being efficient in their manufacturing so I end up not buying the Merkur.
I understand Mark and your concerns are valid. If the price was not a factor in most of our lives then we would all be driving Lamborghini's. That being said it's also smart to understand how the markets work. Companies need to make profits it's up t the consumer to tell them how much they should get away with by not purchasing the product and sending that message. A woman also pays more for the same product as men would but that's a story for another time.
The Merkur is significantly heavier (the metal composition is different) but they both shave about the same in my experience. If you buy a Ming Shi and love it, consider getting a Futur as your forever razor (unless yours breaks a spring like mine did).
I think you'll be very pleased but go slow when you get it and put it on the lowest number and work your way up. Some have been known to be aggressive.
once you remove the top you can see them its what the blade rests on. when you put the top back on you are pushing down on that until it clicks into place. I'm at work now so I can't verify but I' m almost sure
Hi Don. Just received my Qshave yesterday and shaved with it for the first time. One of the best shaves ever. A high quality razor at a very low price. A real winner. Thanks for the video.
I just found a Ming Shi razor of this Futur clone that I bought with an engraving of my last name...that I had done ~8 years ago and forgot about and never unboxed. But if you can get a razor engraved for cheap, I'd recommend "Jesus shaves" for the multi-level irony. I have a Merkur Futur and clone, they are different, but the differences don't matter much to me.
I know this is old but the spring used in this razor is a different metal to the rest. Simply due to the environment razors are subjected to you'll get accelerated corrosion, especially on the points of friction /contact. Mine was badly stuck on 4 and needed soaking and locking pliers/vice grips to get it undone. The quick easy solution is remove the spring but you'll be limited to using the lowest #1 setting. Soak razor in plain, very hot water & dry it fully after use. Use Vaseline on the spring & threads, or any heat resistant grease. Avoid submerging your razor in water to much, especially soapy hot water. Replace the spring with something none metallic or maybe coat it with a flexible paint. It only goes through very little compression & expansion so this maybe the best looking term. I've bought my second razor as for the price it can't be beat.
Great review but you have to lather up more my friend. I have the Q as well but I use the Viking Crusader for my face and the Merkur Future which these blades in this video are a replica of....murker’s patent expired
I just checked our local Thai online shopping store Lazada. The Q Shave is selling for nearly 45 dollars??? Wherwas the exact same razor, the one Don recieved first is about 6 dollars.. Thanks Don great video.
You are very much welcome. I'm sure by now this razor has gone up in price from the 6 dollars I spent back then now with supply chain issues but $45 seems a little high. Thanks for watching
I just found your videos. Great job. I got the Ming Shi a few months ago. It is a great piece of hardware. To solve the problem of the handle being slippery, I rubbed my fingers on an alum block. Problem solved. Keep up the good work.
Has to be the best value in wet shaving. Got mine for $6:99 incl. shipping from Aliexpress. How can they do that. I've seen Aliexpress keeps adding on wet shaving items, brushes, stands, razors, heads etc all the time for next to nothing. Worth keeping eyes open.
I want to shave like Don however.. I cant wait 4 to 5 days. I shave every morning even on my days off. I guess I've become "Old School" I just enjoy that clean feel and so does my wife. Sending out some soaps soon Don. You always do a fantastic job. This razor rocks! I also want to try the Italian Barber Slant. I think its called the German Slant. Thanks for making what many people look at as a chore fun.
Thank you for your kind words, Bryan. Glad you like the Qshave The other Razor I use is the RazoRock German 37 slant which can be found here - www.italianbarber.com/products/razorock-german-37-slant-razor-torsionshobel *NOW COMES WITH 316L STAINLESS STEEL CNC MACHINED HANDLE! and only $19.99 it's one of my go-to's but go slow slants can be more aggressive than regular DE for some so time your time with it.
Nice shave as always Donald. I have smile from ear to ear because of your reaction after the test. I am glad that man with huge experience in wet shaving is not underestimate razor because of its price. I saw in comments that you ordered another razor from QShave store? Cant wait to see that. Thumbs up for review, cheers pal!
I got the same razor just used mine first time today didn't do to bad I used astra platinum blades with mine. Blades pretty good balance I pretty much used setting 5 or 6 I started lower like 3 which did ok but missed a few spots so I got more aggressive and did pretty good some times felt like wasn't cutting but might have been how was holding it. Since first time using it. Mine was about 15 with shipping and is the Ming Shi anyway good video take care
Hi, Richard thanks for watching. This response seems to be the norm I have found most people once they use the QShave find it amazingly satisfying plus you can't beat the price.
They do it because the put no effort into its design or R&D so no money went to that. they don't care about quality so cheaper materials are used. No money wasted on the packaging or promoting the product
I had a Merkur Futur for years until a top spring broke off making it useless. The Ming Shi version I bought to try out is virtually identical in function, it is much lighter in weight than the Futur. So my take, the Futur is better quality material, however the top springs can break off which I would expect could also happen with the Ming Shi. If you don't care about the weight, the Ming Shi is a bargain. I now have a Parker Variant and prefer it to the Ming Shi, so I gifted it to a friend.
Oh yeah, you always have good music. Sometimes I shave to your music in the morning on my portable speaker. That's when I watch shaving videos, while I'm shaving or cutting my hair...
Beautiful Shaving Don! I bought this QSHAVE razor, the price is absolutely incomprehensible. Maybe the materials are not the same as the Futur, but it does a great beard!
Received my QShave today from Shave Nation and love it. Given that I am a female Newbie to DE Wet Shaving less than a month, I didn't know if I was ready for an adjustable, but glad I got it. Absolutely great shave. Even the included blades were good.
I agree Jill nothing like having just a little instruction booklet to go along with the razor you just purchased all good and I just liked the way the box looked as well.
