Hey Joshua been in maintenance work for 37 years I always ask was it working and what changed last after it stopped. Then go with KISS process keep it simple stupid. Last test before you go with parts replacing. I love your systematic approach doot doot great way to explain it

Brilliant video buddy I'm a complete noob, brought myself dji fpv goggles and the black controller, brought a mini drone with cadx from banggood USA, connected it all flew it once had a minor really small crash inside and 1 motor won't spin fully.. Will be checking the wiring on it all when back home with a list of things to check thanks to this video, thanks mate

That was pretty great. I am getting back into droning and just Receive my new swag yesterday, already have put in lots of hours. Call the outside edge of a branch today and crashed. It broke one blade now One motor won't Spin, gimme back into this at each 51. I'm saying that there's a lot programs out there. That can help me and I appreciate this post. It was very informative and I definitely would do the pinch method and see if I can't figure things out. I'm hoping it's just a wire or something after the cras. The plastic did come a little unhinged and a snapped it back together. So I think and hope it's something simple. I'm not at ESC.

I had this issue the other day and all the problem only ended up being a signal wire severed I could tell because the motor twitched when I plugged the battery in. ( exact same motor, btw!)

Been flying the F7 Fusion for almost a year and when I heard you say Talon F7 I knew right away what was up. Lol. However it is an amazing FC.

Built my first (and only up until this week) quad (RR CL1) about 2 years ago. I couldnt understand how it made such a loud init sound, where it came from (no obvious speaker on the FC) or why I still needed an external speaker. I flew it a bit and it collected dust. Never did FPV - LOS only. It's so fast yet stable. I never wrecked it - unlike my attempts at heli - pro tip I learned circa 2000 dont try a .30 nitro swash as your first without simulator experience no matter what you think you can do. My last flight with it before I took a break from the hobby I actually used it to hang an 80M half wave antenna on the top of a tree. Lots of failed attempts at throwing rocks and using a sling shot/fishing pole. Anyway. Rigged up some string and stripped 12awg wire, flew over, yanked the string - antenna dropped (well, not the antenna but the rope I used to then pull it up) - boom. Also got my first contact that day. My mind exploded when I learned the sound came from the motors. Ive been into car/home audio for the same time. The answer has been in front of me the whole time. Ive never seen that from an RC before but it make so much sense. Its genius. Motors are basically speakers - without the part that pushes air which isnt even needed for higher frequencies. Apologies for the long comment but man - mind blown / mystery solved - amazing.

Man you helped me out with a problem I've been trying to figure out for too days now with just this one video. I have a mamba F405 MK2 stack and I flashed the new version of betaflight on it, just thinking it was the mamba 405 target not thinking to look for the target on the paper under the flight controller now I'm feeling pretty stupid. All this time and I thought I fired the esc somehow. That's keep up the good work

I had a motor not spinning once after my brother crashed my quad, it turned out that the motor output from the flight controller was pulled to ground, so I soldered that wire from the harness to the ppm receiver input pad, remapped it and it worked like a charm.

I just ran into a similar situation this weekend and it was the wrong target that I had flashed. The FC developers changed the target number when the latest BF was released. Note to self , always double check the target.

Cool video IV had problems in the past with new builds with duff motors a good test if everything else seems ok is to swop motors and the duff motor moves but is a pain resoldering may be I will make a motor tester as in one of your other video to test new motors on

As soon as I saw this. I thought I bet it's the talon F7. I had this exact same issue a few weeks ago. Its a bit sketchy that board. I remapped the motors once without reading the website trying to use a different pin and it bricked the board until I reflashed it. Then I found the info on the site and it's all good.

If your quad does a deathroll and one of the motors can't spin to full speed after (but still spins) you very likely had a motor winding snap. Happened to me twice on emax ecos since the top of the bell is so close to the windings. Small rocks and other shit gets in and the motor crushes itself until something snaps.

Same problem (one motor not spinning) happened to me a few weeks ago. I use a 4 in 1 ESC and all of the motors did all the beeps except for that "broken" motor. I thought at first it was the motor, but something I did (after rechecking all the wiring and soldering) was to change the positions of the motors 1 and 4 (the non functional was motor 4), and then the motor I though was broken did work in position 1, and the one which worked before did not work in position 4. I then concluded that 1 of the ESCs was burned during a bad take off I had due to attempting it in a non-levelled surface. I checked with a multi-meter if any current was flowing through that ESC pads, and nothing there. Hope this helps to someone :D P.S.: I bought a new 4 in 1 ESC :P

thank you JB. what can smoke a motor? my quad fell out of the sky on one flight and broke an arm. I replaced the arm and the quad fell out again. this time I realized the number three motor was scorched. i opened it up and there were four pole were fried two pole on one side and the two poles adjacent to it. I would check blackbox but....no sd card.

2:00 OR previous used just disabled startup tones. I once was fixing "dead" ESC, and the reason that I didn't hear those beeps was zero startup beep volume

Hi Joshua. I have a question about number 2 motor on my recently purchased HGLRC Petrel 65 Whoop. Number 2 motor is not outputting full power when I have the quad plugged into Beta Flight and test the motors on the flight controller. Number 2 motor seems to have a problem spinning up with low throttle but spins up when I input full power with the Beta Flight motor control tester. It does not produce full power like the rest of the motors. I have done the ESC calibration several times and made sure I did it correctly but motor 2 still isn't producing full power. This is a RTF kit and comes with spare motors that just plug in. I replaced number 2 motor and did the calibration several times more but motor 2 is still not outputting full power I am now assuming that there is a fault on the board? This is the entire information from the HGLRC website on the controller. Is there anything I can do or is the ESC on the board broken? Thank you for any help you can give. I am having a similar issue. One motor stopped working after I ran three packs through it the day before. Flashed the FC (MAMBA F405 Mk2 /F50 stack). Had it set to DSHOT600, and only 3 motors worked. Went on Betaflight and calibrated the motors in the Motors tab, still same result. Checked in BLheli, so issues there. Then, just for shits and giggles, went to the configure tab, changed the target for the ESC, to DSHOT300, nothing. Then to ONESHOT125, and now all 4 work. Any thoughts?

Hey buddy Im having the same issue but with a new Matek System F722-SE F7 Flight Controller, I soldered the esc’s to the flight controller like how the diagram shows on there website. I plugged it in and got nothing when I moved the channels. Are the esc’s shot I have no clue.My previous build I had a PBD and a fly controller this one seems to be all in one I have never dealt with these LOL is there anyway that you could possibly help me out so I can get up in the air flying

I could use your help. I can't get the motors to turn. I can get the motors to turn in Betaflight through the motors tab. I also see the transmitter talking to my receiver in betaflight (I see movement of throttle, pitch, roll etc). However, when I unplug the quad from the computer and plug in the battery and try with just the transmitter, I get no movement. I've tried changing the motor protocols around, adjusted the arming to 180, flipped my arming and disarming switching up and down, but still no luck. My arming switch is the SF switch on a tx16s. It is also assigned in the modes tab and I see it being activated. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Going to watch your arming fails playlist. Thanks

Was this a BNF or whatever kit and pre-shipped with the wrong target? My 1st guess was the signal wire, but as soon as you went to the CLI, it seemed pretty clear something was amis. Great job! Thanks for sharing.

Haha, I had 3 Talon F7 mini fcs and that issue had my head scratching for a week before I had it working. They initially had the incorrect resource mapping so it took some time to get it fixed.

just goes to show you sometimes its just not what you think i thought it was the sig wire for motor 4 hence no beep beep on motor 4 very intresting vidio joshua thank you i love watching these troubleshoots you always can pick up a few tips

@joshuabardwell one of My readytosky RS2205 doesnt spin when I use my FS-i6X transmitter but the all spin nicely in clean flight. Can you help me? Connected to BLHeli s Favourite little bee 30A ECS. I get all the beeps on power for the motor in question

Hello Mr. Bardwell, after I have already seen some of your videos, I would like to contact you. I have a problem with my first newly built drone. After arming and giving a little throttle, the motors turned to full throttle without propellers and at the same time the throttle stick failed completely. I could only stop the motors using a failsafe (switch off RS). Since then, the stack (SpeedyBee F7 V3 BL32 50A 30x30) can no longer be armed and the motors can no longer be addressed in Betaflight. Likewise, the bidirectional DShot can no longer be switched on in Betaflight. Also the button for Gyro RPM Filter is no longer available in Betaflight. Otherwise the stack works normally. Also the ESC seems to be ok according to BLHeliSuite32. Can you possibly tell me what is wrong with the stack? As a somewhat advanced beginner, I am at the end of my rope. Just had a light crash on my first 6S quad's maiden flight, unbalanced a motor and thought I managed to kill one of the ESCs in my 4-in-1. Well at least I don't need a new ESC...

I use talon f7 fusion stacks..... could have taught you something today haha.... should have brought it up in your stream n would have saved u that! Haha I had same issue and was killing me ! Haha

Im having an issue with My #1 ESC not showing on BLHELI_32 causing motor 1 to not operate. Is this a bad ESC? Ive dbl checked my wiring harness. ESC does its proper initial sound test when battery connected. motor 1 does not move while performing its initial pwr up test though. plz help. F722 HGLRC Zeus flight controller paired with an Hobbywing 60a 4 n 1.

Sad part is they go out of stock and they always place the same issue on each restocked item. It's your branded fc fix this issue so the newer releases don't have issues.

This is exactly what happened to me. I flashed the wrong firmware. Took me forever to figure out and finally figured it out after I bought another flight controller and swapped it only to realize later that I flashed the wrong firmware after all the wires still worked with the new FC. Now I have another FC! Lol

had same issue on old drone not mine. Battery connected lights up but motor won’t run. The motor coils has resistance but its pcb capacitor is below reading label. When connected to battery motor felt hot but no sound or movement. Was it hardware or firmware ?

I ran into this same problem with MATEK H743 SLIM, and Velox 45A V2 4-in-1 ESC. one of the ESC is working fine, but the other one has one motor not working. There's no such easy fix as in the video on their website, any ideas?

Hey Joshua my nephew is starting his FPV journey and his first quadcoter is a master 5 with a SpeedyBee f7. We got to reordering the motors and one motor is getting an error of 100 in red text. We have 4 newish FPV guys on it but can’t find a solution for him. Wondering where you would start for trouble shooting?

@Joshua Bardwell I wrestled with that board about a year ago. I was about to pull my hair out until I discovered that. At first you had to use the resource stated for that firmware. The new target didn’t exist yet. (RESOURCE MOTOR 6) for motor 4...silly lol

But if one motor wont spin after the crash, that could be physical damage? I tried to clean the motor as it was hard to spin by hand.. and also replaced the cable you mentioned... still problem with new motors! But as said, I had a crash.

hi, i have the following problem: my front left motor is not spinning. the fc i new, the motor is new. it makes the right sounds when i connect it to the battery. the quad is a cinelog 35v2 with a geprc 722 45A AIO V2. the wires and solider joints are looking good… betaflight tells me that all 4 motors are running but there not… please help! thanks a lot!
