You do an excellent job!! You look like a C 5/6 quad which makes t things you do all the more remarkable. I'm a T 6/7 para sinne 1980. I got married in 1991 and have two boys who are now grown men. We celebrate 26 years of marriage on June 15. I lost my right leg 3 years ago due to an infection in metal artificial bone from a badly treated broken leg in 2008. Losing that leg throws my balance so it was like going back to square one. So, even though I've been at this way longer than you're alive, you've inspired me and taught me that it can be done. Thank you!!
All thanks go to you!! You've cracked a tough nut with strength and grace. Keep on keepin' on! Your power chair is very interesting. What brand? I obviously use a manual. Quickie. They've managed to really mess up a good product bc they are geared towards men in that most are solid body where you have to take it apart to get in the car. I'm not going to ruin my manicure doing that!!!! Plus the footplates aren't remotely conducive for heels. Tragic if you ask me!!! 😉
I've noticed scrolling down the comments that during her demonstrations in her bathroom that there were no dumb inappropriate comments. I'm impressed by that in itself
Vincent Pride I understand that you’re trolling. But the fact that you could even type that vile thing means that you’re a truly pathetic and completely miserable person.
I was 8 when my mom had a diving accident and broke her c6/c7. She is also classified as a quadraplegic but was originally diagnosed to not be able to move from the neck down, but with some miracle she got some use of her arms and hands back and feeling in her legs. I'm now her carer and I have been for the last 8 years ❤ I only just found your channel and I think your videos are really insightful and inspiring. Lots of love from South Africa ❤
You are such a beautiful young girl and so inspiring. What you are doing sharing your story and life are nothing short of remarkable. I think about all the people you will help with your bravery and selflessness. My 26 year old daughter has a chronic illness which leaves her bedridden most of the time needing my care. I’ve shared your clips with her and encouraged her to share her story to help others. Stay strong sweeti and God bless.
Hi Tiffani. I actually dont have any disease or any kind of paralysis. But i randomly found you when feeling down but when I watched your story and some other videos it really helped me realize that even when i feel i have lost everything i am shown that there are things about my life i should be thankful for and not take for granted. You're an inspiration and brave to tell your story and open up your life to the world. Keep up the good fight and dont ever let the negative People drag you down. Take care.
I feel sad that so many people are obsessing over her diagnosis and not what a great learning tool this could be for those with similar disabilities. This woman has worked hard and Im so glad to see her sharing the knowledge/skill she has gained with others.
oh my gosh I'm so sorry you hurt your foot like that! thank you for sharing I personally really appreciate all of the motivating you can do it videos out there so thank you for sharing your experience
I'm complaining about not being able to hit a golf ball after years of practice and you are showing people hope to do these difficult transfers and dealing with this. Bless you is all I can say.
This is what RU-vid does best - an amazing resource for those struggling with whatever. And of course it needs amazing people like this lady, who have gone to the trouble of providing some pointers for anyone who needs them. I bet this little video alone has helped millions of people. Hats off to you.
Thankyou. I hate my body somedays and I forget to be thankful for the small things. I may not be a socially exceptible size but I cam get around without a wheelchair and I can get into a bath. You are an inspiration. Thankyou.
I am a 25 years old foreign legion veteran with 12 of those years served in an special unit and I have never seen such courage and strength. Your outside beauty is certainly no match for your beauty within, and what an example you are for the rest of us. You are an amazing woman, no doubt. God bless and thank you for your videos!
I was just thinking how much it sucked to be self isolating and feeling sorry for myself,,and after watching this I realize I have it so good...God is great and bless this woman and the trials she bears
I work with disabled people and I am starting my nursing training next year. Videos like this are so good at making people aware of what you go through. It's interesting to me how people need to relearn how to do everyday things. I want to help people and to educate people about things like this
Tiffani i wanted to tell you that whenever i see your videos i feel a warm feeling. You give us power and thank you for that. Greetings to your lovely doggy 😘
You are so beautiful! You look like a model and you're such an inspiration! A beautiful inspiration. You're helping many people who are dealing with life obstacles. And that's a lot of people! Xoxo
I also have a disability called spastic dyplegia , it's when the muscles have a lot of spasm. I have trouble bending my knees. God bless you and your family.
wowwww .. i used to do that too (lil prayer) when get in the shawer until i was 14yo .. and seen you makes a lil prayer, it's just hit my mind to always do that again .. u just inspired me and everybody .. Thank You so much and KEEP it UP! GOD Bless YOu! :)
This lady has an incomplete injury....this is why she's able to do as much as she can. .. The difference between complete and an incomplete injury is...complete injury is where you spinal cord is severed at the injury level....incomplete injury is where your spinal cord is damaged but still somewhat functions. I have a C5-C6 incomplete injury. I can walk short distances with the aid of a walker.
My ex-boss is a quadriplegic, he became paralyzed in the rodeo. He was like a father, one of the toughest guys I've ever met. He helped me way more than I helped him. Anyway, love the video. You are truly an inspiration to many.
With arms, yes. You can be pretty independent since most of what we do relies on our arms and hands. Misleading title, tbh. But this is good for people who are like her and still have use of their arms.
Jessie James she is a quadriplegic actually, quad just means that the arm are affected too (which hers clearly are if you look at the quad-typical semi-fisted hand movements and muscle wastage from limited nerve activity). There are two types of paralysis, complete and incomplete depending on how severely the fractured vertebra damaged the spinal cord. And the second categorisation is quadriplegic vs paraplegic -quadriplegic meaning they have had a break in their neck (c-spine) which will affect both their arms and legs at that level. And paraplegic being anywhere below the neck (T-spine will paralyse chest down, and L-Spine will paralyse approx waist-hip down). So from that level the person can then have a complete (meaning fully damaged. No nerve conductivity , full paralysis), or incomplete (meaning small movements or medium movements with intensive physio over a long time). Incomplete spinal cord injury patients can lose their movement (like this girl who previously had more movement from Physio, before breaking her leg and having to stop for a few months). It takes a lot of work to activate those nerves and get the movement she has in her upper body, despite still being a quadriplegic. Were she to stop her physio her nerves would essentially give up and she would be in full paralysis until going back through intensive Physio as an incomplete quadriplegic.
I'm an occupational therapy student, and your videos are so helpful! At school, they have us students practice these transfers ourselves and on each other but I had never seen a person with a spinal cord injury actually perform them in their home environment. Also, your chair is amazing! This video is so helpful! Thank you for sharing!
I don't know how I stumbled across this video, but my friend just lost the use of her kegs in a car accident and this video has helped her so much learning to get back into daily life. Thank you!
You are seriously my hero. Very beautiful inside and out.. keep on keepin on, you're doing a wonderful thing showing other quadriplegics that they aren't alone in this world.
It looks great but I've had so many problems with it :/ I've actually gone through 5 of them in 1 year because they kept having such bad problems I needed to swap them with new ones..
5 chairs in 1 year is crazy, my son has muscular dystrophy and he gets a new chair maybe once every 3/4 years and then we have to fight to get it off our o.t. , we're in Ireland
My insurance covers only every 5, but if there's an issue with the chair (and I've had that happen..improperly fitted for a chair- nightmare!) we have to go through doctor to request new chair & so many hoops!
Cool chair! So happy to see you doing so much for yourself. It must give you a really good feeling to have such independence. All of us are here by the grace of God. Thank you for sharing how you manage to do these all so important self care tasks fluidly. BRAVO! I am going to watch all your videos and learn more. Thanks. BTW - Forgive me I know it is not important but you look gorgeous young lady. Many Blessings!
Kinda sucks she disappeared without a word. Like her last message was a comment saying her laptop or camera was broken or something and that she would replace it....and no signs of life ever since. Like I get she doesn't owe complete strangers anything but just saying "hey RU-vid is not for me anymore, I'm going to remove my vids and live life privately" we'd all get it. But just disappearing makes me worried. Her account on select models is still present so I think she's alive. I hope so anyway.
Can you please make one video about your story(What type of injury do you have? What happend? When did you become disabled?...)Btw you are great, and i can't wait another video! :)
It might be too personal. I can't speak for anyone other than myself but how I became paralyzed nearly 40 years ago was tragic and very hard to talk about. It really doesn't matter, to me anyway. I am who and what I am. Knowing my greusone back story would only give someone nightmares. Just take folks as they are
Good for you for doing this. These tips can illuminate little things that can help someone new to a spinal cord injury. I was paralyzed at 17 and know how difficult a transition it can be from being an athlete to suddenly fighting for as much independence as I could get, and it’s tough to say the least, mostly mentally to be honest. So again, I think it’s pretty cool that you are putting yourself out there like this.
I would be so proud to be a relative or friend of yours. Your resilience and sheer strength is a real eye opener for me. Your so down to earth with your attitude . You keep slaying girl and be sure to kick the cancers arse. You still look incredible while be sick and rocking your new hair cut. I hope you are proud of yourself ❤❤❤❤
That’s no joke having to do this move. I was in the ER after a car wreck. I was lucky, no real injuries. While I was there there was a lady in her 70’s in the next area of the ER who had slipped going from her wheelchair to the toilet. She fell and broke her hip. So I lay there unable to move because I was immobilized on one of those boards in case my neck and or back was broken and I could only listen to what was going on around me. I’ll never forget that lady screaming in pain every 30 seconds in followed by her apologizing for suddenly screaming out. It was like “ OWWWWW OH MY GOD” really loud followed by a really quiet through obvious tears in her voice...” sorry.....sorry....” Im not an expert in any sense on this topic but you look really stable and fluid making the transition. You obviously have had a lot of practice over the years.
Tiffani Ntanos thank you for the quick reply ☺ I'm crossing my finger that my bladder tunes back in! Really like your videos, thanks for sharing. Wondering if you could do a video on how you put your makeup on. ✌🏻
You're amazing Tiffani, I know you'll probably not want to say so but you really honestly are. I cannot imagine where you've had to go to mind wise, to then get yourself here, to the other side the way you have, just, God bless you. I know none of us know how we'd deal with some things in life for sure but Tiff you're unbelievable and it needs to be said. You're special and you're awesome. Tons of love from the UK ❤.
My grand father was quadraplegic due to a fall in the stair at over 55 year old , or probly mutch older , frome the best mecanic in town , actualy the first one in the vilage in the 1940-50 , best gardner, father of 12 kid , carpenter , a real do it all men . Aftr the fall he could only move his head . For a other 35 year of his life . I send you lots of good energy and stay strong ! Never give up !
Hello! I'm very ill informed to spinal injuries, I was wondering if you still maintain the title of a quadriplegic after gaining use of limbs that were once paralyzed? Just hoping someone could explain since I thought a quadriplegic had no use of any of their limbs. Thanks in advance
It depends on the injury location and how many are affected. Like 1 person can be a quad because it was from neck down, she has some mobilty in her arms. While person 2 is a para from the waist down, with ill function legs. It varys and some people can walk despite being para or a quad.
An injury at the location of the cervical (i.e., upper) spine in a patient like Tiffani leads to paralysis of the medial (AKA "inner") arms/fingers -- hence she lacks control of Digits IV and V (AKA "ring-finger" and "pinky"). Christopher Reeve, in contrast, had an injury higher up the cervical spine -- C1-C2 -- which is why his paralysis was (nearly) total, why he required a respirator, etc.
Well you've covered transfers already. Maybe a vid on shoes if they are problematic. Noticed you have spasms, maybe you could show what triggers them or how you deal with them? Perhaps manual chair transfers. Btw, when you broke your leg when you caught your foot, could you feel it or how did you find that out? Terrible situation it must have been.
Great ideas, thank you! was also thinking about a "how i paint my nails" lol.but umm, i have full sensation, so when my tibia broke I felt everything. It sucked, but I'm ok now!
Oh damn, that would be a terrific vid. Maybe you could roll a spasm and pedicure combo into one session lol. Ouch that was probably some painful shit. Glad to hear you've healed wonderfully! The possibilities are endless with this series you're creating. I'm sure you have thoughts brewing :)
My Bestir has CP and she requires total care. I just love her and caring for her! Some of your tips actually may help me with transferring her in the flute....THANKS!!! InLOVE YOUR CHAIR!!!!
Please do more! I’m a physical therapy student in Mexico, and the transfers videos could help me so much to see limits of my patients and giving them advices for the daily things like that ones ❤️thank you so much for the video!
can you do a floor to chair transfer?:)it's sometimes really problematic or something with your hand, i have a friend that is quadriplegic and she can't really control her hand. thx and this is a lovely video :))
Awesome... c4 c5 here.. was in the back seat of my car while my friend drove and after she ran a red light I woke up in the hospital quadriplegic. Don’t know how you do it, good for you for having strength. I barely get by every day
god damn amazing, i cant believe how many people are out there with spinal cord injuries. it really makes me reevaluate what im doing with my life. cant commend you enough for your bravery and perseverance, kudos
I was like holy crap you are FLYING on that thing before realizing that my playback speed was at 2x. I know this is from a while ago but still this is amazing progress.
you are amazing! You are such a small lady but have strength that is unbelievable. I am certain it took tons of practice, but you make it look easy. God bless you!
Hey. How much time do you usually spend in your chair during the day? I'm just wondering because I'm worried that you might end up having problems if you sit that way for long periods of time :(
You are so brave - so hard to watch but you are so brave to share your story and your plight! My emotions were all over the place watching this - sad / happy / impressed / and encouraged .
Yes, you have been miseducated on this subject. Quadriplegia is when all 4 limbs are affected. Which it took years of physical therapy to be able to use my arms as I can. My hands only have 10% function. That would make me a quadriplegic.
