Riker: ".... quadruples her sex drive." Troi: "Or more." Riker: "Or more?? You never told me that!" Troi: "I didn't want to frighten you." Riker: *Least frightened shit-eating grin ever*
I remember hearing how TNG didn't have the sex crazed Captain Kirk and that the show suffered for it. To counter this argument, I present Commander Riker
Thing is, Riker is a Commander, not a Captain. In TNG they went the opposite route by having Picard be more of a Sir Galahad the Pure trapped in Castle Anthrax.
What never fails to make me laugh about TNG is how they went from a "sex-crazed" Captain Kirk to Picard, who is basically science fiction's take on Sir Galahad the Pure, trapped in a Castle Anthrax situation.
I actually admire Captain Picard's restraint, because that's one of the many traits that makes him a good leader. Plus, it would have been awkward at best for Troi, for Picard to be her stepfather. Not to mention, Lwxanna would probably never let Picard go and should have gotten the hint from day one that Picard wasn't interested. Granted Lwxanna wouldn't take no for an answer, but I'm with Picard on this one. Not to mention, Lwxanna tried to get with Riker and I could see Deanna getting mad. No way would I put myself in a situation like that. I'd rather keep my morals and my dignity intact. To be honest, Lwxanna was a little scary.
This is actually a good reason for Betazoids and Klingons to not interbreed! Can you imagine a Klingon woman whose sex drive quadruples when she hits middle age?
Given Deanna's current phase of life. It would seem, logical to assume that she has experienced the same phase as her mother in this episode. Glad to see that Will survived 😊😊
I'm not amused, #1 - but "I" am!!! LOL..ah...Majel Barrett...you carried the flag of Star Trek beautifully into a new era, and I love you for it...Well done!
If you can find it read the book Imzadi, tells about Riker and Troi's early days. Riker got assigned to Betazed on diplomatic duty and one of his first duties was a wedding, Riker first noticed a naked Deanna, needless to say it went over well on a planet full of telepaths. Luxwanna used her pull with Starfleet to get Riker transferred off the planet after he became Deanna's Imzadi as well.
“Well.. it would be prudent.. if I..” this has the same energy as the key and peele skit where they constantly gas light themselves into their sexual deviancy by saying “you cannot deny the local customs!”
With the Enterprise computer, you absolutely need to clarify you’d like 1941 A.D. and not B.C. when programming the holodeck. But California circa 1941 B.C. would be its own retreat. Picard could even bring his saddle.
Riker, his continuing mission, to seek out willing partners, to explore strange new positions, to boldly attempt to get his favorite captain laid at all costs!
This shows what Picard used for tearing apart the Borgh, since the gangsters carried a tommygun in their fiddle-case and Nicky The nose was the bartender on the hallodeck
In any reality where humans traveled the stars to meet similiar species, the first of 3 thoughts would be "could I bang it?" In seriousness, I think Riker would have done his own research on Betazoids and their cycles of development. You can not say Worf was single on the ship either. There had to be some women with masochistic tendencies knowing how physical Klingons can get. Let's be real with these interspecies relationships. Something Voyager and Discovery could have, but did not cover. Enterprise tried a little with the polyamorous Denobulans, or when Trip got pregnant.
The weird part is that at no point in the series does someone say 'isn't this technically like doing a goat?'. We're similar to chimps but we don't consider them in that way. Most of us anyway. Yet here with species that evolved on different planets no one ever gets grossed out at the prospect. Or even asks if its ethical. Of course for some reason these species seem weirdly compatible with each other. Yes there is an in universe explanation but realistically that wouldn't make much sense considering how long its been for these species to have evolved separately. Even in the Archer era this isn't really an issue.
@@OmeCoatl054 - Although, Zanthi Fever could result in a Betazoid unintentionally turning their surroundings into Risa due to uncontrolled projective empathy.
@@nuclearwinter391 the real reason is that Frakes and Sirtis wanted their characters to marry in season 7, and while the idea was shot down for the series, they eventually managed to make it happen in the movies (Insurrection and Nemesis).
"...quadruples her sex drive." "Or more..." *"Or more?"* That line was delivered with the emotion of a man that'd won the lottery only to find they'd missed several zeros in his winning sum.
Bruh, the slow but GIANT GRIN that Riker gets when the good lady says, "I didn't want to frighten you" says so much about both his character and so many other men, it's fantastic
I think that bit starting where Troy adds "or more" to Will's explanation and then his "... or more?" and her "I didn't want to frighten you" seems like an ad lib that started as a joke that the director liked and asked the two to build on, though Will's grin seemed too genuine to be scripted. Whatever, it worked wonderfully IMO.
Actually I think they do a good job of writing it well. There are not too many silly words or concepts that are too outlandish. Now being able to say any of it with a straight face?
I'll never stop loving how much Riker enjoys this conversation at the same time Deanna is not enjoying it. It's like he just can't take his eyes off her as he starts spinning plans in his head.
Troi's huff after smiling at Riker is priceless. She almost lost it and needed to take a breath to save the scene. Frakes gave no fucks on that grin. I love this scene.
I've always remembered this scene as being one of the early signs of the actors finally settling into their characters. Troi was still monotone but didn't feel so unnaturally wooden, Picard was more measured and sounded less like he was giving a performance, and Riker, well...yeah, Frakes seemed to have figured Riker out quite well. Even if they were still on script word for word, the scene was delivered more like from a guide than a reading.
I appreciate their acting skills more after watching some gag reels and realizing how difficult it must be to (sooner or later 😄) manage to switch from sillness and laughter to a serious line again. Like flipping a switch. While good actors tend to really immerse themselves in their roles, it is also good acting to just ad-hoc a brief moment of totally different mood/style.
I wonder if these lines were entirely scripted, or if there was some adlib involved, because Riker's expression seems quite genuine. Maybe it's just acting, but it feels like this was a first take, and she threw him for a loop.
I spit soda out my nose the first time I saw this episode. God, they lost a gold mine not doing more with Riker and Troi...and I mean when the series was running.
I think this scene brings a level of relatability from Riker unmatched at any other time. It was this scene that really brought Riker into that realm of, yeah, this guy gets it but still retains that command/professionalism. Well played Jonathan Frakes, well played indeed.
Riker: "...Quadruples her sex drive." Troi: "Or more." Riker: Or more? ...You never told me that." Troi: "I didn't want to frighten you." Riker's face: *Joke's on you I'm into that shit*
What is the average age for this mid-life phase for her mom, cuz wouldn’t Deanna be at that stage by now in the new Picard series? Riker must be in heaven lol
Between the Horgon incident and this, Riker has been backing his Captain the whole time they've been working together. Best XO and wingman in the fleet!
