@Dr. Phillip Montgomery I would have payed Durrrr off for a variety of reasons, but that's just because I A) Know he is capable of bluffing there and while that Jack downgrades me to less than the nuts, the only hands that play this way are so weird they don't make much sense EXCEPT FOR JACKS, which if he has quads then lol he has quads. B) I wasn't around for the rest of the hands that Garret played with him before, it's entirely possible he picked up a read on Durrrr that gave him a better idea of where he was so he could fold. We do not know. The fact that you are willing to call yourself a pro, yet say how obvious this was blows my mind. Against any old player than sure, maybe, but against someone who is KNOWN for their absolutely ridiculous bluffs, I think the tank is very reasonable. The fact that Garrett didn't call shocked me, with the way the action went and the price Durrrr gave him it seemed like such an easy bluff to pick off, I guess that's why me and you are stuck in our stakes and Garrett is where he is huh XD

Such a sick hand. So many people always claim Garrett runs SO GOOD, but really he runs into plenty of bad and unlucky hands too, he just makes better decisions than most of us would and also gets paid more often when he has strong hands. If Memory serves me correctly, Tom and Garrett were actually discussing what they had in several hands later in the session, it was so cool to see.

@RobRochon 2 месяца назад
@@jomapuig93 easy fold. 1 bet call by Dwan preflop. Dwan can easily have 44, J10, KJ (21 combos) as well as AQ (12 combos) for chop. Less likely he could have smooth called 1010 (3 combos) but could have this considering he also smooth called JJ (1 combo) here. Unlikely he had AK, AA, KK, or QQ because he almost 100% always 3 bets these hands because he loves playing big pots so he's not bluffing with these hands either. So what do you think he is bluffing with here? AQ? not likely. Triple Js? No...he's just calling Garrett's bet on the river with these because there is no value hands to that to call them. Rainbow board so no missed flushes. So you're left with KQ or Q9 suited bluffs and Garrett has a Q blocker and that's it. EASY FOLD.

@RobRochon
@RobRochon 2 месяца назад
I'm curious to know which bluff hands you can put Tom on here? Its a rainbow board with no flush draws. It was only 1 bet pre-flop call by Tom so he doesn't have AK. Garrett has AQ so he blocks other AQ bluffs - 9 combos there. Other than that which bluffs? KQ? Q9 suited? 98 suited not likely with the K on board. So maybe another 12 combos for bluffs? Made hands you can easily put Dwan on KJ, J10, 44. If he slow played maybe KK but more likely 1010. That's 24 combos.

Good read by Garrett and you can see Tom's immediate yet subtle 'wtf' reaction on his face. My play with Tom's hand on the river would be to go all in, which would look a lot more like a bluff considering I checked in previous rounds. On TV, players love catching players on a bluff - so never underestimate the power of ego. While still a low % chance of a call, the reward would've been huge.
@ivansanchez-wk2rj
@ivansanchez-wk2rj Год назад
Garret makes a 3bet preflop the 90% percent of the time. With almost any hand, 96s for example. Here he just calls with AQs, maybe because he is facing Tom Dwan. In the flop a continuation bet from Tom is right, nobody gonna think we have the nuts. In the turn another bet (we are losing now), and call if we face a raise. In the river: two options. 1. Check-raise to any bet. 2. Make a pot size bet or overbet, and check-raise any bet. In this way, betting since the flop, we built a much bigger pot, than just check-calling.

PLaying at those top crusher stakes is a near impossibility. Not because it's unattainable, but those stakes represent maybe the top 0.1% of players. If that. You need an IQ of at last 120, minimum. You can't just be a above average 115 kind of guy. Then you need to devote hours of study each day. These guys will study 6 hours a day, then play 6 hours. it's a constant competition. Someone will be studying your hands. Getting that slight edge over you that will see them win a million off of you over 10,000 hands. And there have been plenty of high stakes pro's who were on top for a few years then crashed and went bankrupt.

Why a lot of poker pros are guys who could be top bankers, but they’re just a bit too weird, or have poor communication or poor team work skills, so they play a more isolated numbers game. Adelstein is cool. But he always looks high on something and super irritable, or super laid back. Some people just wouldn’t hire him because he seems too intense. Obviously likely genius or at least gifted Iq. For a while a lot of the top poker players were also bankers. They had the maths foundation and regular exposure to risk/reward. When Dwan used the time chip I think that would cause doubt for me. It tells me he is evaluating the strength of his hand against mine which is not typical in a bluff. Plus human nature causes us to want to convey strength when we are bluffing and indecision is not so we act faster. I know Tom is a top level thinker which makes my point irrelevant but I still think Garret would have been more likely to call an all in without a time extension.

The way garrett played his hand dwan could be value betting with trip jacks there, but considering quads are so rare the most likely hand tom could have was pocket 10s kings or 10-J or J-K but still garrett would expect a raise on the turn. @commenter6722 2 года назад
Fold. What use is a straight on a paired board with that kind of action? I don't even know why Garrett made that large a bet on the river. I thought he was supposed to be some big deal. What calls him there? Two pair? Would you call with two pair? It's too easy for Garrett to have a jack if Tom didn't. Weak players think holding a single jack is a strong hand there and it would be until there's that big a bet on the river. Then that's the minimum to bet with but not to call with for that much. When the board is paired and a straight is possible - with AQ, an obvious possibility given the action - both the straight and trips are in serious danger. What is calling Garrett's big bet on the river? A single jack? Garrett's fold was obvious once Tom raised. And his bet sizing on the river was a mistake. At most be should have made a small bet and folded to any raise. Tom was absolutely capable of doing exactly what he did with KK, JJ, 44, TT... Garrett is overly tuned to excessive aggression. He's not a reflective, nuanced player.
