No commentary playthrough of the Quake addon 'Arcane Dimensions'. Showing all secrets, hard skill level. 1.8 exclusive levels are played in v1.8 of the addon, obviously, the rest of the levels have been played on v1.7.
Arcane Dimensions 1.8 is out! Featuring 4 new gorgeous levels, items, and enemies. So this is the perfect warm-up for Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, as some of the crew from AD (and other Quake modding veterans) are indeed in KillPixel developing the game.
Arcane Dimensions is de ultimate Quake addon, featuring new weapons, items, enemies, and gorgeous levels. This is not your regular addon, it actually fixes many of the Quake issues adding weaker monsters that fill some of the roles and niches that original monsters do not and more powerful common use weapons... So not all monsters are bullet sponges in later levels. This mod is so popular that many user levels made nowadays actually require it.

Thanks for this. I was playing this and found 15 shards and the 16th is quite hard to find lol, or I missed a well hidden one somewhere. Timestamps really help lol, I will go through each and find which one I missed lol.

This map is a work of art. From the outset, the camera dolly that finalizes by resolving into the player's perspective is genius, and it just keeps getting better from there. Thanks for the nice video.

I finally completed this and this was just EPIC. Took me 2 weeks of part time playing. I usually play on Hard and at the end, there were too many waves and waves of enemies. I had to cheese out and stand behind walls and shoot. It was crazy! But the starting and middle part of this level was incredible. The outdoor environment is such a change for quake games. Stunningly beautiful. Hats off to the mod creator. Also thanks for the video, some secrets are hard to find and your video was useful!

I found a glitch that if you choose Hard and Chaos Some enemies will miss the textures in this map. What a final fight, that is a BOSS fight!

That last battle was epic & if you manage to somehow jump up there at 1:00:04 you can find several paintings dedicated to dev members and one for Markie Music. Seriously though, I'm always off 1 enemy. I keep thinking it's a lone Scrag just chill'n far away from the action, mocking me or maybe a single dumbass that hurled himself off the edge of the map and didn't die.. But what are you gonna do, right? Sometimes, it is what it is.

I'm always 1 or 2 short. It's a nightmare with so many respawns, if you watch my whole video, you'll notice two zombie swordsmans got trapped inside the smallish yellow armor secret. I bet it's always another random monster trapped like that.

Holy moly, heard about this... But seeing it here sweet mother of Buddha this is beautiful level design. The engine was definitely capable but our old school rigs and graphic rendering limitations back in the day probably could not have kept up with these intense levels... Absolutely gorgeous work

*15 min run* (any difficulty, any %, no advanced technique) There is no need for the Hallowed Shard visible from the start of the game, nor the one in the _Forgotten Tunnel._ *Prerequisite:* to practice taking the Hallowed Shard under the small chapel, where the ground crumbles, without falling. For that, you have to make a jump at the last moment (hard). Otherwise, you will be able to get this HS after getting the Jump Boots. *Preparations* • *Activate the column on the 1st floor* - Get closer to the column-elevator on which there is the Widowmaker Shotgun so that it goes up in front of you. Be careful that no Knight is on this column when it goes up. • *Grenade Laucher* - Take the Grenade Laucher by going the 2nd floor without an elevator. This is important because the next time you find another Grenade Laucher, it will be a Super Nailgun instead. *1/ Small chapel* On reaching the 2nd floor, jump at the last moment under the small chapel, where the ground crumbles, to take the 1st Hallowed Shard without falling. *Preparations* • *Jump Boots* - Take the Jump Boots is the priority. • *Widowmaker Shotgun* - Head to the top of the column-elevator which is now at your height. Drop slightly while running to grab the Widowmaker Shotgun while the column descends, but use a double jump to immediately climb back up. • *Super Nailgun and Rocket Luncher* - Go to the 3rd floor via the farthest elevator you came from. Take the Super Nailgun. It is important to kill the two Crossbowmen in front. Take the Rocket Luncher in front. *2/ Central monument* Drop down towards the center above the central monument to take the 2nd SH. *Blast Belt* Go for the (closed) gate and jump to the right at the back to look for the Blast Belt at the _Rocket Jumper's Stash._ Jump into the void. *3/ Respawn* You reappear on the 3rd floor with the 3rd HS. *4-5-6/ Great North Tower* Go up to the large tower on the left (with the gate in front). It is important to go to this tower as early as possible to avoid there being too many enemies here. Take the Green Armor on the way. Climb to the top floor thanks to small assenceurs and double jump, then take the 4th HS. Drop down one floor and take the 5th HS. Take the Thunderbolt, then drop down towards the Air Tank passage in the _North Tower Basement_ to take the 6th HS. Jump into the void. *7-8-9-10/ West tower* After the respawn, turn around (with the gate on the back). Use the double jump to take the 7th HS from the _West Tower Top._ Drop down one floor and take the 8th HS. Drop behind the visible waterfall and take the 9th HS. Get out and drop in front, slightly to the right. You find yourself in the _Cliffside Storage Room_ where you find the 10th HS. Jump into the void. *11/ Last visit to the 3rd floor* After the respawn, run towards the Quad Damage on the lower level, in front of the gate. Race towards the open portal by shooting down the Knights with the Super Nailgun. Take the 11th star on the way. *12/ Arena of giant Knight statue* Take the 12th HS as usual. *13-14/ Other sides* Go to the other side of the gate to enter the _Lost of the Firmament,_ take the 13th HS in front as usual and exit. You will probably have to jump over new enemies.Jump into the void. You reappear in front of the arena. Turn around and go to the portal in the normal way. Go to the other side of the gate to enter the _Source,_ take the 14th HS in front as usual and exit. *15-16/ Back to start* From the back of the gate, jump to the center of the map from the right side, where the _Rocket Jumper's Stash_ is. You should drop into the basement, just in front of the _East Walkway Cellar._ Take the 15th HS, then go back up by the elevator. Jump through the window towards the interior, and take the first exit on the left. Follow the edge of the land to a small flooded hollow on your right. Cross it and take the door which is immediately to the right. Be careful not to go too far (don't take the ammunition) to avoid spawning a Hell-Knight. Go under the elevator as usual, then take the last HS at the _Classic._ *Arena of the Sanctum of Tears* Immediately dive into the inner lake and make your way to the open passage to the _Sanctum of Tears._ The Red Armor is especially useful when the Scrags appear. There is no need to kill the Vores. The Quad Damage is especially useful for defeating the four Red Shamblers. Killing them all four and killing the Chthon makes all enemies disappear.

I spent more than a hour and a half on this map trying to get all the secrets and kills. I got all the secrets and got 698/699 kills. This is a fantastic map and I enjoyed every minute of challenge it presented, especially the final enemy rush with the fire shamblers! imo it's the best map in the Arcane Dimensions pack.

Sorry for the frame drops, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with my computer (aside from the frames that OBS drops from time to time on the output from no apparent reason). None of the CPU cores or my GPU were getting maxed out. Engine limits? Also, getting all kills is a bitch with the map getting repopulated so often, I'm always 1 or 2 kills short :(

It's absolutely got to do with the engine limits if this is still the IdTech2 engine. They didn't really start developing things like geometry and distance culling in 3D shooters until Quake2/Half-Life onwards.

I'm getting lag on this map Forgotten Sepulcher. I have a good graphics card and good processer, so I'm confused as to why a 90's game is chugging - unless these maps are truly so ambitious and large that even some modern PCs would struggle (this map is one of the largest I've ever seen - beautifully crafted!)

Locurón de mapa. Por lo visto a varios les ha dado problemas de fps en las zonas exteriores, asi que si puede deberse a limitaciones del engine. Habrá que ver si en futuras updates meten algún otro mapa asi de pesado. Pd: la pelea secreta tranquilamente podría considerarse como la pelea final del mod XD

Ninguno de los núcleos de mi CPU estaban maxeados, mi gráfica tampoco... Así que es del motor. De hecho, estaba usando vkQuake, que me suele dar del orden de 28% más FPS que los ports basados en OpenGL

@@pagb666 I'm happy to report that this map (and the mod in general) actually runs fantastically in the remaster! My guess is that AD isn't included in the remaster despite its popularity due to it being distributed under the GPL license. If I understand it right, to include GPL-licensed code/assets/etc in a product, the entire product must be distributed under GPL, and one requirement of being under GPL is that your product's source code needs to be made available to anyone who buys the product. Meaning to include AD in the remaster, Night Dive Studios/Atari would have to start giving out the source code of the KEX Engine to anyone who bought the remaster, and afaik they're pretty keen on keeping access to that engine limited to only themselves. Also, thanks a ton for making this video! I managed to find 14 of the shards on my own, but idk how long it would've taken me to think of going through the backs of the portals without you showing that that was the trick for the last two!

I love this map. But impossible to play in co-op. In Quakespasm, some enemies and item are invisible, then the game crashes after a few minutes. Why create maps for Quake if multiplayer isn't possible?

@@pagb666 There is a multiplayer welcome hall in Tears of the False God. It was proof that multiplayer was indeed possible and viable somewhere >< So, Quakespasm-Spiked operates the multiplayer. In Tears of the False God, the second player must die if he wants to have the boots. In the respawn hall, picking up the boots several times increases their effect, and a player can perform up to 5 jumps. Boots stake 3 more times, but they are lost when picking up the backpack from a player corpse.

I keep getting could not allocate memory for texture error sometimes when I save in this map, it causes the whole quake engine to crash.

QSS admite efectos de partículas custom si mal no recuerdo. Pero me quedo con vkQuake porque básicamente casi me saca un 30% más de fps en las mismas condiciones.

The short intro with the camera pan at the beginning feels very out of place, and sort of cheapens a truly great level. Also, not only does it break the 4th wall by being "fan gamey", but it also feels very out of place with the other levels included in AD - which in itself is a "package" marked by excellence and attention to detail and uniformity and adherence to aesthetic standards.

i dont quite understand the appeal of this mod, quake levels are oppressive and clustrophic and grimy, the atmosphere feels more negative compared to these vast, almost serene landscapes where you can just shoot an enemy from a distance they cant reach you. you wont need to get in their faces, you wont need to be placed in a tight room with them as they bounce around trying to kill you. this is such a drastic departure from what im used to in quake

I understand what you mean a lot of the intensity is lost , it looks spectacular but for me personally it doesn't play that great with the wide open spaces , nothing quite like getting ganked by a couple of fiends in a phone box size space , I understand that back then hardware was the limiting factor but sometimes the best ideas and concepts are born from those limitations
