This is really good. I agree with other commentators saying a little depth is lacking, but I don't see many others revisiting the Q2 soundtrack, so I'm thankful for what I get. EDIT: Coming back to say your version of Crashed Up Again is literally the best.

@@HuskEkker Sounds like Steam handled it. Old games like Q1/2 had issues even with Win7 if I recall correctly. IRQ conflicts and runtime errors come to mind.

I was gonna say, the vanilla version that you download from Steam, unfortunately doesn't come with the original Sonic Mayhem soundtrack, but the different Quake I-II sourceports support the option to play or even add music to the game. Amazing isn't it! 🤘😈

This takes the original soundtrack, peels back the layers and strips it down to its essence. A churning war horse of metal, steam and mechanical precision. This is what I feel like the Strogg version of the soundtrack would be, and by that I mean. . . this is GREAT. Gets you pumped for firing the big gun, and hunting down space marines.

I wanna love it because the Quake 2 soundtrack is legendary and I love that you've taken on a project like this but a lot of it feels kind of...stiff I suppose; sounds like you're trying to keep up with some of the faster tracks like 'Rage' and 'Quad Machine' and they come off feeling a little sloppy. Please don't feel discouraged because you've absolutely got chops, this is an awesome effort and a large undertaking so mad respect. I'd look at cleaning up your alternative picking a little because you'll be speedy but sound so much more polished. Keep it up brother \m/!

Pressure Point 1 is perfect, and even beats the original! It would be amazing to hear a 2.0 or 1.5 edition of this remake in the future, perhaps with more bass, instruments and sound effects :))) Outstanding job so far

Been listening to these for four years now....the Q2 ost is my favorite of all time, so it gets regular rotation with the originals. This version of Crashed Up Again is better than the original IMO, and my most played song in my MediaMonkey library. With that said, it is near impossible to beat the original songs for the most part, and I'd say I'd agree that most of these fall slightly short of the original. But considering the tools he used they are absolutely astounding, and very close to being as good across the board. I am very thrilled he did these and generously made them available to us, as I've thoroughly enjoyed them.

Hahah yeah, totally agree with that, and that's the biggest thing that I regret doing, I was kinda new to mixing and music production in general when I did this, so my bass there was just doing it's job to fill the mix, if you hear one of my most recent covers like the Doom's Hiding the Secrets you'll see that the bass is much more evident.

Sounds so good man! I remember reading in a gaming magazine in 1998 and it stated that Quake 2 was the best game in the world. But at this time it was like trying to get to the moon first. Unreal Tournament was right around the corner. But Quake 3 was like "thats cute and yeah it looks pretty but we'll show you how its done." Speaking around Unreal. Why doesnt I.D and Unreal join forces and make a new Quake game?

Bit late for the party, really nice remake. But I personally can't say I like this over the original. I don't know how I put it into words, but it feels like too busy. There's like not enough emphasis on the main tone of the music. Even so this is by far from a bad remake, I guess you could say I have a different preference.

Eh... It's a lot dryer... It sounds like you used software instruments to make it, and they just aren't as good as Sonic Mayhem's. That said, I appreciate the effort here... I think you should go find a game that only had a soundtrack that was only in MIDI, and do this for it, like Hulshult did for Doom. I'm sure people would be interested in hearing a fully produced version of another soundtrack that hasn't been done... (has Final Doom been done?)

I admire the effort, though in track 1 I think the melodies are often playing in different keys, and are not following the originals well. It seems polytonal and dissonant... and not intentionally either. Maybe it's an artistic decision but the word "remake" suggest you probably wanted to be as close to original melodies as possible, and that didn't work very well. Other tracks are much better in this regard, though not perfect (some notes of the riffs are different from the originals).

I agree with your observation. The increase in speed is also jarring for some songs, making it feel like they are rushing the guitar work. This could be another reason why the riffs are so different because the guitar skill is not high enough to be meticulate at the increased BPM.

Real talk, this might be the best reimagining of 'Descent Into Cerberon' I have ever heard. Normally I'm really harsh on judging remixes of that song that change the opening synth. But your sound is just, quintessential late 90's scifi synth. Well done.

The songs like Operation Overlord and Crashed Up Again are missing something. You don't have the same sorta "squeeling" sound that the guitar makes in the original, and for Crashed Up Again in particular that's a pretty big issue seeing as that sound is what makes that song so iconic. There's potential here, but I think you've missed the mark by a small margin. I'd say this is definitely not a problem that can't be fixed; maybe next time. c:

Hi, thanks for the feedback! And yeah, those two songs were really difficult to recreate, mainly because there use of a Wah pedal, wich ia kinda hard to emulate exacly via VSTs. However, hope you enjoyed the overall ;D

Very nice job. I think it's one of the best remixes i've ever heared. It will be nice to hear your tracks in some games like quake or DOOM. By the way, can i use this tracks in my fan game like "If quake was released in 21-st sentury"? Of course with credits, or sth. I don't know how it named on English, but i heared i have to get an approval to use your content, and write who is author of tracks, if you dont mind.
