Fun fact: Quake 2 originally wasn’t supposed to be part of the Quake series. It was going to be a totally separate series, & the original title was Wor. But game players really wanted a sequel to Quake, & ID Software still wasn’t fully sure what to name the game. So rather than just start from the beginning, they took the Wor project & worked it into Quake 2.
If this is true, it discards any possible connections between Quake 1 and the Strogg. A pity for the existing theory that the Strogg were somehow related or even created by the Q1 gods
Well, they've been tied together since 2017. The problem is that pure multiplayer AFPS is very niche, and too many people spread negative PR about Quake Champions so most mainstream gamers don't even try it, let alone play enough to get interested in the story bits. I can understand hating the entire id-Bethesda-Zenimax-Microsoft-BlackRock chain for some truly disgusting business practices. But it's another thing entirely to spread so many lies and false negative reviews about what is a great multiplayer game. Like that yellow journalist NerdSlayer Studios. Posts an utterly negative review, proclaims the game dead despite it having more players than any other in this niche genre. He gets hundreds of thousands of views, yet zero footage is his own. Quite literally all of it is taken from promo materials and from other youtubers. He misuses the term bunny hop in both its old and new meaning. He thinks there's a weapon called "ray gun." You check the names of his accounts on official Quakestats, he has 27min played on one account and 23 on another.
@@Phil_597 They've been tied since 1999, when Q3A came out. You had a multidimensional rift bringing characters like Ranger from Quake, and Stroggs like Tank Jr., and even Doomguy, into a battle arena to the death.
@@szeltovivarsydroxan9944 Good point. Q3 just didn't have all these huge lore bombs and comics like QC so I tend not to even think about Q3 as having story, but it indeed does.
I'd be so down for a Quake 5 - a multi-part campaign following a soldier during the earth invasion, the invasion of stroggos, and then ending on something new
"Some cowboy clipped me on his way in" If you pay attention to the beginning, another pod crashes into the player and disables his craft somehow upon launch. The other pods are siezed by tractor beams and pulled directly into a trap, except for yours. The players pod survives somehow to make a crash landing on level 1.
Fantastic video! Quake and Quake 2 were some of my favorite shooter-games back in the day, though I never realized really had that firm of a grasp on the story until I saw your videos on the subject. I'm looking forward to the next video!
Very well done video. Just watched your three Quake 1 lore videos too and the video capture of the games is great. One thing of note: as you note in your third Quake 1 video, the expansions aren't treated as canon to Quake Champions, and sadly the same goes for Call of the Machine. A bit unfortunate, imo. We'll see if any hypothetical future Quake 5 keeps to that rule.
While the narrative itself may not be considered canon, the settings, monsters, items etc described are said to be part of the established universe. However, this information was mentioned in a comment, so it's unclear how official that claim is. Regardless, I hope they decide to expand on this in the future.
To me it seems more likely that ranger in quake 1 is actually from another alternate reality. The world that ranger is from seems very different from the world of quake wars quake 2, and quake 4. The quake 2/strogg saga, seems much more grounded in reality and could arguably be our earth. Quake 1's earth seems anything but, and It would actually make sense considering that ranger travels through multiple dimensions. The technology from rangers world seems considerably different from our world. It looks like some kind of run down steam punk alternate reality, where secret hi tech military installations look like they were some kind of old grungy repurposed buldings. Its also a reality where the military uses nailguns and shotguns as standard issue weapons, and lets not get started on rangers armor.
I remember reading somewhere in a tidbit the strogg came on a meteor that struck the earth in Right outside of Dallas, Tx. (funny that ID wanted the ground zero of their asteroids crash to be where their main office is located) I do not remember where I read this Probably in the book of Quake 2 or the book for the quakewars gane. But it refers to the Dallas crater in Texas.
@@lechumqc7910 smth good about you, m8. I leave a comment to every your quake/doom video. Nevermind about this case. But you should know about such youtube-tricks.
I wonder if Quake l and ll can be linked with Doom 3 storyline... Given that shub nigurath seems to link Quake l and ll, I dont see why it can't also link Doom 3 via the hell dimension. Is it possible?
hell yes, this is basically what i wanted. I hope you put some Q4 info i liked: That the Strogg aren't really a cyborg race, but some sort of AI intelligence *controlling* a cyborg body. We are never told WHY the Strogg need organics, but hey, maybe you can come up with something. Honestly i just arrived, so am excited. You make very damn good narrations. Edit: My dude, the editing and voice acting is outstanding, amazing work, be proud of what you'd done. I so hope you can include the expansion packs too.
The Strogg need organic parts for two reasons: Food and power. The Strogg require bodies to power their machinery and cybernetics in order to create more Strogg who then live off of a substance called stroyent which is a broken down processed slurry of flesh. I assume they need this to keep the battery of the body running.
The Strogg utilize bodies from the worlds they conquer for stroyent production and "reproduction" purposes. It's plausible to speculate that individuals deemed unfit for warfare are designated for processing 😟
@@lechumqc7910oh yeah quake 4 plot people pretend quake 4 is the black sheep of quake series but enemy territory quake wars got it worse cause i think its an abandonware
Great vid dude, Quake 2's intro is one of my all time favourite game intros, so cinematic amd it looked excellent for the time. Quake wars on the other hand 😢😅 was one of the first games I ever sold. I could not get into it at all. Which is surprising because I loved the wolfenstien multiplayer that I think was done by the same people 🤔. Also again I'm so impressed with your writing, and I would absolutely love to work with you on something in the future. Will try my best to get some more subs first tho over on the channel. Nice work dude!
Quake Wars had its moments. There are some mechanics that few games can match. Being able to call down turrets, initiate orbital bombardments, take on the appearance of others, deploy energy shields, and create spawn points from deceased enemies are quite distinctive features. But, they can also lead to more chaotic moments. 😄
Great story telling, awesome editing. I sent this to non-gamer who likes the Borg, and found this fascinating. Keep up the good work LeChumQc. Especially loved the merge between Quake II and Quake IV cutscenes, you nailed it! I'd love to see QVAKE (Quake V) to have fast-pace like Quake II, I mean Quake IV was good but it lacked that adrenaline rush while playing, a touch of better music from Mick Gorgon, and 60fps movements would be as good as Quake II. I hope they'll remember that what differs Quake from other FPS games and add it to the next game. Secondly, I'd love to see Moon missions, such as Comm Satellite secret mission on Quake II, with lower gravity, it was so much fun but the mission was too short.
This is actually shockingly well done. I honestly expected this to be an early 2000's high budget promotional for Quake Wars with this level of quality. Well done for actually making it atmospheric and the lore understandable, this series is actually unrivalled in how it presents Quake. Many thanks.
🤦😞 And Q2 is 1997, and HL1 is 1998... What's wrong with you, people? HL1 got it from, not Quake (Q2 got some from SystemShock, tbh). Basically, it's the HL1 catastrophic experiment is the DooM1 experiment.
