No need to miss it, playing Q3 almost everyday. Just need to find an equal player to duel with and you’re set. Avoided discord for the longest time but it’s a great way to get connected. Go for Quake Live if you prefer CPMA or can’t get 3 to work.

I'm no pro but I miss Quake 3... All the LAN nights with friends, yelling at each other across the room... Truly indescribable. I can wreck most computers on Nightmare mode but I miss human environments such as online and with friends... Oh well. I'll always have the memories

This game was so fucking unforgiving, especially when you'd be playing with office computer gear because gaming hardware was just an idea back then. You could take the average Quake player and put him in a modern e-sports tourney, he'd probably frag half the competition before they knew what hit them.

To all haters: You may think that this gameplay doesn't look that good because all the rails didn't connect at all times etc. You have to realize one thing. Not only playing on a tournament of that caliber is way different than regular everyday online gaming but also playing against one of the best players in he world is totaly different then doing 20/20 railguns shots against random average players. There is an old saying for that. "You play as good as your opponent let you"

not to mention a lot of the rail and rocket shots that did land we're nuts, especially that perfectly timed and predicted rocket frag he got as fatal1ty ran around the corner at 5:23. That whole play was just really well executed. A lot more than just raw gun skills when it comes to Quake, theres tons of strategy and mind games as well.

I use to play this as a kid.. 1v1 arena rail gun only was the best way to train on this game.. you'd rail gun bounce the 5 pads in the middle, hit the wall snipe them then spin 180, shoot the wall on impact and fly back to the centre. Once you learnt that, apply to all maps while learning spawns.. you can bounce any map in a few seconds using rail strafes..not seeing these kinda moves in this makes me think it was a low level tournament. if you used anything but a rail gun on this game, you basically gave your opponent the win.

I think Zero4 personally sucks in this match. He always camps in the corner an uses only the power weapons. Granted power weapons are a good choice, camping is not. He hugs the corner too much, Wendell is actually playing an moving.

Does anybody know or remember when Quake III hit its competitive peak? 2001 was still in the early stages of the global online match making phenomenon like we have today but I would like to get an understanding of the skills and communal feedback from people who played back then I appreciate any information you can give thank you. P. S what does everyone think of Quake champions now that the first beta has come and gone?

Yeah, 2001 was probably around it from memory. The point where zero4 rose to the top to start consistently beating fatal1ty was probably about the point players started moving on to other games. While the players did overall get better, I think the attention kinda went away from it after from memory Babbages CPL?

@El Shuwix My friend, I don't care if you believe it or not, I would have smacked their asses all day long, and on a good day, both at the same time... This is so average gaming! They just got the luck to be born somewhere with access to great tournaments. Hope you really think this over. You think that because Schumacher was a legend, there were no other drivers in his generation that were more talented and skilled? Thing is, luck plays a major factor... Getting back to Q3, this is seriously average!

Dude I'm also talking about early 2000s. I was 19 in 2001... I understand your point and can't argue with you because you would not know... Q1 or Q3 with any of these two all day long on almost any DM map from both games! Again, on a good day, both dudes on both games! And to make it more funny, I know another person who would also think these two would be no match for him. I will send this vid to him and ask his opinion on the gaming level ;)

Fatal1ty must have been tired. No offense to him at all.. Sure he is a professional gamer and props to him. Perhaps, he had a headache. I get headaches all the time from long gaming periods. This zero4 guy plays much like Dennis Fong. Dennis would stay near the health and armor power-ups in the level, preventing the enemy from reaching them. Dennis Fong played the first quake tournament. He won John Carmack's ferrari.

Damn these dudes are not entertaining. I remember this game being hectic and crazy fun back in the day. These dudes play like 10 year old CoD kids. Sittin on favorable parts of the map near HP kits and armor and duck out of a fight after they spam some shots. Especially Zero. That dude is the epitome of a 1 trick pony player

Guess you clearly don't know much about q3. It was about map control. You needed to understand the timings of the item spawns, and control items more than mechanical skill - mechanical skill alone wasn't going to get you there.

I have an idea, why not an RTS based on q3ta? You can capture positions or fulfill objectives that give you energy, and you can spend that energy to build a base with watchtowers for snipers, build powerups, or weapons. Any bot can build, but can't shoot, Accessing bots with more skills costs energy too, and you can only access bots with higher skills after some building requirements, you can have an army with many sarge with the shotgun at front and many Xaero behind, or many Grunt with rockets to destroy the enemy base, or an army with the power up speed to capture the flag, or some bots with the power up Guard guarding the base, the combinations are many. You can order bots to guard a location. You can command armies RTS style or take control of a bot in first person. You can choose CTF, Destroy base, etc. You can team up with friends, you can build in front of the enemy base if he lets you, build jump springs to invade the enemy base from the air, and many other things...

FOV is default and this is how they played because during that time Maximum resolution was 1600x900 but most crt monitors had 1024x768 and this is how they played. If you want to watch a fov for higher resolution - watch my 4K and 16K resolution videos of the same game. 16K resolution videos in 2019 was the world`s first 16K resolution(15360x8640 pixels or 133 megapixels) video of Quake III Arena PC game.
