In 2020 now, and your comment is just as true, sadly. I think Quake in general isn't more popular because there are a lot of things to know about that you wouldn't know about unless you played the game. I say this as someone who originally got into Quake Live because I started watching Quake Con championships, and then I started playing, now I'm addicted to it. :-D Most people don't have that kinda dedication. It took me over 100 hours to win my first FFA.
@@TheRealFaceyNeck the strategy, tactics and skills all kind of come in layers. the elo system is pretty much layered as well, and I've played for half a decade and I'm still 300-400 elo short of the pros (kind of an accomplishment for me tbh). i still don't know how to scratch semi pro but i've taken maps off of players who can take maps off of these players so... I guess there are just more things to learn about the game. it seems like the majority of the game is theory after a certain point, which is why people get lost when watching it.
Sorry, I didnt see much special here. Camping, holding positions, taking goods, building up traps, spamming..... They didnt even try to avoid making noises, hopping throught he landscape, telling everybody where they are.
I'd take on rapha and evil at the same time. If they spawn with 1 health point. They might still win, though. Great match and very nice commentary. Q3 at its best.
At first I though ' hahahah look at these nerds playing+commentating' 15mins later I'm still watching and it's fucking awesome haha! genuinely exciting!
its even more entertaining once you can keep up with what the players are trying to do. i can't get the same enjoyment from Quake Champions because so much seems to have been altered from Quake Live in that game.
Glad to see that after all these years this game and the community is still alive! I remember going to internet cafe-s after school with friends and playing Quake3... priceless!
38:23 "The high level of these players. They know how to always keep those escape options open to make sure they always have a way out." 38:30 "Evil is going to catch Rapha. There's no way out!" 38:33 - Zoot saves us.
Sergey "evil" Orekhov >> defensive Shane "rapha" Hendrixson in FPS games and in Quake skill, still. Sergey is probably the very best Quake player when he's "in the zone/flow" (and probably one of the very best human fps players of "all time") So smart, efficient, logical and accurate Greetings from Finland!
This is like the only MP game I do not play. At the same time it is the only one I will watch. Seen them all, know all the pros. I really need to get into this. T most entertaining thing on RU-vid is the Quake pros. Badass dudes. 11:40 . Legit
1:55 wtf producers? I know you expected a fight centered around mega, but with the angle of that camera, we weren't going to see anything except someone going for the grab and leaving, and a POV would be just as good to see that.
Man, I really though evil had it after that dominating Cure performance, but that last round...wow. Rapha just toyed with him after going toe to toe in terms of aggressiveness. Really like evil, though. Aggressive players are always a fun watch.
Complex Gaming Iamthebombe I can say it's not dead, me and two friends just started playing and dueling. Wish us luck! (Actually, complex gaming, with the timing of your message, I believe that you're saying this in response to the FTP on steam change. It's fine, it allowed me to get into it.
+tazzz001 ok. i've been playing a bit of Quake 3 today, really fun, but my ping was really high. is that an internet speed problem or is there something else?
+PIXELFLUX Is It? I heard Its dead. Bethesda deleted the accounts, friendlsit etc and now It costs money and made newbie friendly things, loadouts, railgun less dmg etc...
@AAJAA5 Rapha and Cypher are both incredible, but Evil takes the cake for the best quake player , when I go to watch quake, I watch Evil, he gave us the Quake we all wanted to see, the fearless aggression, so calculated yet unpredictable, that insannnnnee LG, he had amazing aim and timing yet he was'nt robotic at all, its art and beauty watching him play. such a shame he never got his Quakecon title, forever legend.
So, evil and rapha usually have much higher ac curacies than this. Each others mind games, dodge, timing etc must of thrown each other off ! So nice to watch this skill!
Well, I'm a UT player (mostly 2k4) but I have to say that competitively, Quake comes out on top, at least for duel. There is just a lot more strategy involved in controlling a map imo, as there are more armours to play for. Among other things.
all i'm saying is that giving someone a point advantage before the match begins is really fucked up. probably he beat him just two times because he had an advantage point again :D - i don't remember what was it like in 2015 cup. and i said what I said about Rapha because his playing style resembles that of some lamer - running around with rocket launcher and refusing to use another weapon unless he just has to. it seems that he gets ahead only by exploiting the game's imbalance - that's why he's unbeatable in 'lost world' - because there's no railgun on this map. I don't say he's bad player or anything - of course he's good and he's rape me even if he didn't use the rocket launcher at all but if the game was better balanced HE would get raped again and again for the likes of evil and cypher - they ARE more skilled than he is.
First of all, rapha has a point advantage because he didn't lose. Technically evil already lost the whole tournament, but because of the loser bracket system, he gets a second chance. Second, you're under the assumption that rapha doesn't have ridiculously good aim, which isn't true, he just doesn't rely on it. The thing is rapha's strength is his ability to adapt and play the opponent. Even if the other weapons were made stronger, or the rockets weaker, he would still be able to win. He will do what he needs to to win. evil does not adapt. He is exceptionally good at what he does, and he will just continue to do it, even if it means he will lose because of it.
Indeed, but I think it's not a problem with Quake Live so much as e-sports or even games in general. I've played Quake Live for years, but if I watched a Leagues of Legends game for example. I get very confused. But having said that, some games are easier to learn to watch than others. Tennis for example is very easy to learn to watch rather than a game like Cricket. I've thought with Quake Live to make it easier to watch, they could make the maps more simpler. But it's not that simple as more complex maps provides more entertainment once you learn the maps. The map Longest Yard for example is very simple, but no one plays that map any more as it's just boring to watch and play.
truckcompany The thing I find confusing about Quake is that it is such a fast-paced game. But Im pretty sure that you would find TF2 confusing because its also a pretty fast-paced game compared to CoD or LoL. But it is just what we play that defines what games we enjoy to watch.
***** for me the only confusing thing is the absence of knowledge about the maps. Knowing the strong and weak positions is what makes you realise of the brilliant stunts the players tend to execute. The rest is just item timing and aiming.
disinfect777 Okay. So, the combat is quake is very linear, and static. You might move faster in quake, around the map. But the combat in UT is about 50% faster if not more due to the weapons, and dodging mechanic. Sorry, but yes. Good try tho.
Bushiey Movement speed is the defining factor and you move like a slug in UT. Weapons are fast in both, and Quake is so fast you don't need a dodging mechanic. You just have to strafe. Quake wins. Sorry brah.
Evil already had to beat TWO additional opponents to reach the Final, which is already a huge penalty, why do we have in addition to that to give 1 map to Rapha ? 1 map is huge. Having a 2-2 result in the final and crowning the winner after that is very disappointing, I don't like this format very much.
tauruxbis Because he lost in the winner's bracket. How is it fair to someone who advanced to the final without losing not have an advantage? You just suck it up and win if you're down at a disadvantage. At the international, EG were down a map because they came from the loser's bracket but fought and won the entire tournament. Also, Rapha at the fnatic beat it competition came from the loser's bracket to face cypher in the final who had a one point advantage. He just sucked it up and beat cypher 3-1 in maps, 3-2 officially. I guess one's a true champion and the other's a one tournament wonder.
Muhammad Redha Ahmad Razif But he had an advantage : to reach the Grand Final, Rapha had to beat one more opponent, and Evil had to beat THREE more opponents. That's a pretty big advantage already. I'm fine with the finalist from the winner's bracket having an advantage, but having a full map advantage is just too much and spoils the fun of a potential great final.
tauruxbis Rubbish. This is actually easier for evil. Previous loser bracket format had the loser bracket finalist play TWO bo3 meaning they had to win a total of 4 maps while their opponent only had to win one bo3 a total of 2 maps. In comparison, evil only has to win 3 maps. Evil just couldn't hack it, plain and simple. To add, rapha himself was the one who knocked evil down to LB so any argument of rapha having an undeserved advantage is moot since he already lost to rapha earlier. Fatal1ty had to beat vo0 in 2 bo3 for painkiller and he just sucked it up and 4-0'd vo0. Also, in WSVG finals against toxjq, he actually won 3 maps to toxjq's 2 but lost because it was 2 bo3 format. That's more unfair than rapha having one point advantage.
+tauruxbis Evil would have lost following that format since he won 2 maps for first bo3 and then rapha won 2 straight after so rapha still have ended up quakecon champion. Anyway, evil needed one more map to become quakecon champion and choked. Rapha again showing his championship form.
Anyone else thinks Evil is better than rapha? The only reason he wins is because hes chicken. Unlike Evil, he's just very good at the game. Na'm saying?
