This album reminds me of when I first discovered Louis, maybe 15 years ago... As a young musician, I aspired to have the freedom to create music like Louis does. So many of us may have created albums that will never be heard by anyone outside our immediate circles. But, Louis pushed through, creating an audience for himself, and forced a career in an otherwise unforgiving industry. Props for never giving up and staying true to yourself. Your music is rich with creativity and passion that fuels the soul for so many of us who still dream to play honest music for the world to hear. 🤘

This album is so vast it's going to take awhile to get our heads around it to determine where it sits in the pantheon. It is a significant work of art, for sure.

I’m gonna rant… I’ve had this album for basically 2 days now, and I’m obsessed. I genuinely think it’s one of the best albums I’ve ever heard in my 40+ years. I can’t stop listening. Every creative and technical aspect is phenomenal, which I think we’ve all been spoiled into expecting and are never disappointed, but it’s way more than that. It’s the journey it takes you on. It’s the baring of the soul, the authenticity, the recognition of the human trauma response and its function. The surrender to it and escape from it. The fucking heartbreak. I broke up with a girl I loved 3 years ago, and I’ve been over it for at least the last 2, but I’m sitting there watching this video, and she’s right here. I can feel her. And I’m remembering all kinds of shit, shit I thought had been deleted from my mental recycling bin, and then I’m remembering when it ended and the aftermath. I’m reading the lyrics of this stoic and slightly disheveled dude on my screen, and it’s like a third of what’s being said is shit that I was saying to her in my head after she was gone, a third of it was stuff I was saying to myself to try to cope with this new reality of her eternal absence, and the other third was the physiological pain of the unanesthetized emergency surgery my ego was undergoing at that time. The stages of the grieving process. And the instrumentation, sound design, structure, and composition embody this roller coaster, and it siphons the nostalgia out of my breath and into my bloodstream. The manic melancholy. And I’m mad again how much we hurt each other. And I’m mad at whoever this bitch is who hurt this awesome guy in the mirror with the camcorder who is transmitting one of the most ethereal pieces of art I’ve ever seen to the world for free, who makes so many people so happy. And then it fades. And I’m back here, happy again, as I’ve come to be. Happier than before I met my ex. Obviously happier than when we parted ways. Happier than before I first heard Louis Cole. It took my whole lifetime to get here, and I count myself as lucky to have found such inner peace, contentment, comfort in vulnerability, and satisfaction in just the simplest things in life. I think that might make the special things like this music all the more impactful. I’ve never met Louis Cole, and I don’t suspect I ever will, but he’s gained an ally, and I’m rooting for him to have unending success. Thank you, and I hope you’ve found that same happiness and contentment for yourself. And if I ever find Planet X, the crater is a lock.

Decade Best Album

I love how Louis Cole's music has evolved over time (no pun intended). Going back to old tracks and hearing this you can make out where different seeds were planted for the fruit that have been made into the fruit salad that is this album. And then it contains fruit we didn't even know grew in his garden. Absolutely delicious. Thank you for not being afraid to do things your way.
