If you have debts and need Upstart, and are buying M:tG products, please re-evaluate. The use of the Orzhov who will enslave people even after they die is not cute or funny when you think that someone probably got into real debt playing a luxury card game and the company targeted that advertising to them. Yuck.
uuuuhhhhh???? the unblockable 'subtheme' is in there because most of the token creation involves big dumb fractals? Not a swarm of little saprolings? You need some way to push them through duh.
Add haste enablers like Crashing Drawbridge? That way after playing Avenger of Zendikar or Deep Forest Hermit you can swing out immediately rather than hoping you can last a full cycle around the table without a boardwipe.
How is perplexing test not a board wipe? Why is it not mentioned as one over curse of the swine? I would say curse is more targeted removal than board wipe.
@@mikemcglasson1286 some of them yes, but there’s a lot that don’t. Also, the ones you make the most of are generally vanilla. Saprolings, soldiers, warriors, zombies come to mind. All vanilla.
@@armstrongturbo well it’s not a win con in the deck they designed. Their deck is based off token copying, so most of their tokens will have abilities.
Don't agree with the analysis of Oversimplify here. This card is insane in the colors. Vanilla tokens are much easier to deal with then people seem to think, chump blocking and....laughs in blue bounce magic. It exiles unconditionally, which is huge, and does it cheaper than any White and/or Black condition-less exile board wipes. This card literally removes the only weakness of this color combo, no good and cheap board wipes. The concern of why would you board wipe when you are ahead is applicable to every board wipe.
Kinda disappointed in evaluations of this deck tbh from everybody. Doesn't seem like a lot of thought when into what it wants to do after people saw the commander was.tokens theme. This.deck is.clearly not a go wide.tokens deck, rather going tall with tokens. Hence the unbkockable stuff in the deck. Also why Adrix and Nev are more.impactful in this deck. If you noticed, there's not a lot of cards.the make.a burst.of.tokens. its all bigger stuff you want to make bigger with tokens
I feel like they either didn’t register it as an option to focus on tall tokens or they thought that since it’s not specifically on the commanders themselves (to care about the tokens being large), they decided to take it in a more straightforward, common direction. I don’t think anyone is skimming though building it, I just think that most people who get the precons every year don’t evaluate the cards in them based on the other cards that come with them.
I mean whatever the reason may be, you can't exactly say for.example "this.deck doesn't care.about.+1/+1 counters because the commander doesn't say it". Uhm yes, the deck does.care.about +1/+1 counters as there's a bunch of them IN the deck. On top of the fact that the tokens they focus on are fractals which themselves care.about.counters. WHICH makes.the commander care.about n that too since it can.double the BIG tokens. This.deck has been evaluated wrong in my.opinion most channels.I've seen cover it. Everyone wants variety and.deck.diversity, as well as say " it'd the same ol -blank strategy". But that s because.people see that ONE word on the card that makes.their.brain auto pilot. In this.case.people see TOKEN and DOUBLE and just go back to every other.example of a.token deck rather than play into the unique stuff a the deck.can offer
I think it's them thinking too binary in value of having more tokens is better than a couple big ones....when going tall is still really good & viable and can make a big push against opponents. Seen in plenty of games, even some GK games where a big threat wasn't immediately dealt with and was a problem or won out a game.
Yeah my main point is most people are looking too much at the surface of.this.deck.and not in depth. Just because.you see the word token on a commander doesn't necessarily mean its a.go wide token deck. Inversely, even though the commander itself doesn't mention counters, its very much a counters.deck
I'm surprised you didn't put the "bounce all nontoken creatures" card in the board wipe category. Also the Essex deck is finally a home for the card cultivator of blades. It's pretty much known as a bad deepforest hermit or bad pathbreaker ibex, but essex can make 3 copies of it and push it into a genuinely scary attack.
@@bloodfest8510 they were saying that it was good that it says “for the first time” because it would otherwise go infinite with avenger of Zendikar, and the game would end in a draw. I believe David was just pointing out their hypothetical situation could end as the card says may.
Y'all sleeping on Oversimplify. Is it as good as WoG or Toxic Deluge? No, but now Simic gets a reasonably costed EXILE boardwipe with next to no drawback.
Ruxa is 100% going in every Ayula list. There are so many vanilla Bears, and being able to pump, recur and push their damage through all on one card (That is also a BEAR) is amazing.
@@octopowned Ayula is the QUEEN of Bear tribal. There are maybe 6 or 7 Vanilla bears, plus another 6 or 7 cards that make Bear tokens, so Ruxa has synergy with about 14 cards. Meanwhile, Ayula will play off all your 25~30 Bears.
The way essix is worded you can't use it's ability to copy itself, but... If you have sakashima of 1,000 faces on the battlefield not copying anything, along with the enchantment dual nature, (which gives you a token copy of your creatures when they etb) when you play essix you will get a token copy of essix. Then play a progenitor mimic with both the original and the copy copying the sakashima, which will then all be able to copy the essix every time it's your turn. Don't ask why you would do this, instead ask yourself why wouldn't you?
I think sometimes we miss the Adrian and Nev interaction. Its a replacement effect, so if you double the fractal spawn both copies get the counters. Thats why the +1/+1 stuff is there.
I mostly stick to Tcgplayer or Coolstuffinc for most of my Magic buying. I know CK is their sponsor, but they're always out of stock and never been too keen on their prices. Usually sealed stuff I get from CSI for a good % off and free shipping and occasionally their single prices can be competitive....and then Tcgplayer has a lot of sellers selling singles at great prices and almost ALWAYS have what you're looking for. Just like Josh reminding me about Amphin Mutineer, as I didn't have any copies (only bought a handful of Commander Legends singles and didn't get this) Every where else was $3-5 (CK upped their price by now too) and CSI had some still at $1.99 a piece, snapped up a playset.
@@nikkis.2066 Yea I buy from coolstuff and card kingdom every once in awhile I'll find a few things on TCG. I like Ebay alot too. And yes amphin is gonna become a very sought after card in the future imo, I think even buying at 4 or 5 now is straight, I got 3 actually I need 1 more and I wouldn't mind buying more it's a great creature and if it doesnt see a reprint soon I could see it at 10 bucks
@@0ViciousV0 Yep, even at $2-3 it can be a big steal. I can easily see this not reprinted unless in a future Commander Decks and shoot up to $10+ it has such a strong ability and recursive use makes it even better! Hence why after being reminded it exists, jumped to get my set!
Gavin said that they designed the Mono Color commanders in these decks to work on their own while still fitting into their precon, hence no Partner abilities.
@Maskensaft i did the math, if you have 5 devotion to blue with adrin and nev, and esix out, after the full combo with mystic reflections and master of waves, you will finish with 24,700 elementals, all of which are plus 161
My 3 packs had kiki-jiki + foil knight of the reliquery, contagion clasp, and Yawgmoth, thran physician. I bought 12 more for a draft, once we are allowed friends again, hoping for some good stuff there 😀 Then prices skyrocketed...
@@lcfishing859 Yeah, it went from $250 CAD on release day to $360 CAD the next day , to way more than I'm willing to spend on day 3. I will be buying a box or 2 of Strixhaven, the set looks great for draft and I need a legit Demonic Tutor, for reasons... :D
What I have been seeing in the last few upgrade videos is you're is going with the alternative commander. Which is fine however, I think you should also do the face commander as well in another video. People come to here to look at ideas for making thier deck stronger and not getting it. It's really disappointing me.
ya know I would predict Josh winning with Quandrix but.... Josh has a bad habit of losing because he over extended and I can see that happening with this deck
What if you cast avenger of zendikar, triggered esix to make copies of avenger of zendikar, then on ETB of those AoZ, you cast Mystic Reflection. Is that 7 more AoZ or 49 more? It's 7 more, right? So you'd have 15 AoZ and 91 plants?
@@emperor_rasmus7719 Mystic Reflection says one or more so it would be 49 and if you had the twins out instead it would be 98 instead with 1372 plant tokens.
Myr Battlesphere, if you can give it haste. You make 4 new Myr Battlesphere’s, and 16 myrs. You can attack with the OG, tap the other 20 to make a 24/7 and do 20 dmg
52 mins in. having esix, mutineer AND tireless tracker out and lands drops seems pretty far fetched, but yes, of course 13 mana worth of etb creatures is powerful. Josh, you crzy dood.
Value is his downfall too xD He keeps getting blown up and super targeted because of his huge value addiction xD. I haven't looked back, but when did he win Game Knights last? (Ps. It's all in good fun & jest, luv ya Josh)
Unrelated but, wanted to put this comment somewhere you can see it, hen someone dies in game knights you should have them turn there mat over too the solid black rubber side, not only would this be a cool ritual, but as a new player, it would help me follow along
I like how early on its stated that the mana base won't be messed with.... first 2 things cut were lands. LuL. To be fair, they are colorless... but they are still lands that produce mana. And you now have 2 less lands in the deck's flow. Why..?
Funny that they didn't get that Quandrix was supposed to be a big X/X token deck instead of a normal Go-Wide token deck. Choosing Esix instead of Adrix+Nev as commander is fine, Josh had good reasons (building something we didn't see before). Also, Ruxa and "Spawning Kraken" are just seeds for other decks.
some of these prices for value reprint cards are really off compared to EU market. Picking these up on mkm (magic card market) return wildspeaker ~0.90c (1.05 usd) biomancer ~0.70c (0.83 usd) sol ring ~1.10c (1.31 usd) incubation druid ~0.18c ( 0.20c usd can get the promo version for 0.20c EUR either!) crazy how different these prices are in comparison to individual seller platforms
Only card I'd recomend to add too is Master of waves, as it'd go nuts with enough devotion, and you'll usually have a good devotion number with Esix out to be worth playing
Pretty sure they were thinking "BIIG tokens due to fractals (and Essix), make them even BIIIGger with +1/+1 counters, and then use unblockability or the bear professor to ignore all defenses and oneshot people. soo...very christmas land, but fun.
Honestly, I thought the strategy was fairly apparent, I’m surprised they’re so perplexed by the connections here. I like this deck BECAUSE it’s not a typical go-wide token strategy. Reminds me more of Temmet from Amonkhet.
Exactly. The deck is a go tall token deck, not a go wide token deck. The face commander helps you go wide, but with tall tokens not 1/1's. I don't mind josh going this way, but I think he missed the point of the deck.
@@k9commander I wished they leaned more into the theme of the deck out of the box and improve it rather than trying to play the most optimized version of the deck. But that might just be me...I've gotten increasingly tired of content targeted at min-maxing your decks over just silly fun stuff. Still, going the Esix route is definitely way more interesting than trying to do the twins while converting the deck into a go-wide tokens instead of go-tall tokens.
Not really getting why the unblockable subtheme is so puzzeling. This deck is partially about making big fractal tokens. But a 15/15 fractal has no evasion, so giving it unblockable is nice.
The destroy all artifacts/enchantments cards are significantly worse with Doubling Season, Parallel Lives and Helm of the Host. If you do run those, I’d advise against it.
I think from beyond is a good card to consider for this deck because not only does it give at least one token per turn it also adds mana ramp and if u put ulamog the careless hunger or it that betrays or any of the huge eldrazi the second u get to 12 mana on board sacrifice from beyond search your library and play ulamog in the same turn now if any time u would make a token u target ulamog now u get an indestructible and get removal I think that from beyond is good for both early and late game in this deck change my mind
Me before the episode: I wonder who could have possibly done the upgrade for this *JOSH?* Me at 2:09: Uh huh, yeah sure I totally believe you *Josh...*
There are some good synergies within the original deck, though, even out of those cut cards. The first time we played this deck (original), my son used Adrix and Nev as commander. Soon he had Esix on the battlefield, and then was able to get the Hornet Queen to play. Hornet Queen comes in, Adrix and Nev doubles that, making a total of 8 flyer insect tokens. Then, Esix allows you to make each of those 8 tokens become another Hornet Queen, so you now get 32 flying insect tokens with deathtouch AND you have 10 Hornet Queens, all in one play. Second time we played this, I had the Fractal Harness and because I had the Hornet Nest on the battlefield, my son wasn't attacking because his things were kinda big and would have given me lots of flying tokens that would have become big things. I used Fractal Harness and paid X=6, and then the twincasters made 2 of these things. Then the first time I attacked, X became 12, the next time I attacked, X became 24, and soon it was unstoppable. So there are options.
Would you guys ever do a 5 player game for extra turns for times like this when you have 5 decks? Or would that create too many problems with editing? Have you ever tried it?
A deck where we can Have Study Hall (and in the same direction, Opal Palace) in Liesa, Shroud of Dusk. Its ability uses your life instead of mana to pay Commander Tax, and people get mad at her pretty often!!! Great video guys, keep up the good work!!!
Since you left Crafty Cutpurse in the deck, it is worth pointing out that Cutpurse with Rampage of the Clans takes all those centaurs away from everyone else and gives them to you. With Esix on the board as well, the possibilities are vast.
