I'm from Brazil and I finally bought some Rosemary brushes. They are fantastic! I love these brushes so much that I put them to sleep on my bed while I sleep on the floor after a whole day working and painting.

I was pleasantly surprised that Quang uses the same soap (Ivory), that I've been using for 40 years. This is old school and shows you don't need to purchase expensive brush cleaners. I discovered the vegetable oil thing a few years back and often use that instead of a terp indoors-especially if I don't have good ventilation. I usually use the palm of my hand to gently clean my brushes with the Ivory and then rinse. I've kept brushes going for years using these methods-even cheaper brushes. I've never owned a Rosemary brush, but have about $200 dollars worth on their way, having ordered them the other day. I especially looked for the longer flats, since my favorite brush in the past has been a cheaper Creative Mark Pro Stroke ChungKing long filbert. That brush is amazing and is longer than any brush on the market that I know of. I wish Rosemary could make one of those. The Creative Mark bristles in a number 4 filbert long measure in at around a whopping 1 and 5/8 of an inch. In other words the bristles are nearly as long as the metal ferrule. Their egbert might be this long. Once loaded, they can lay on a long stroke, for sure. I wish they had a flat this long, but it may not be practical to make a flat this long.

I’ve found that leaving brushes in Turpinoid Natural for a few days (or even a week or more) will not only dissolve any old hardened paint in your bristles, but it will also condition the brush. After that you can wash with warm soap and water. You will be amazed how it extends the life of an old brush.

It even works on a pallet. Just don’t try to remove dried paint from the canvas this way because it ruins the gesso. It softens it and it wouldn’t reharden. The company claimed mineral spirits would do the same but it won’t.

Keeping brushes in oil overnight is good idea. Will do likewise now onwards. Thanks. 🙏

Let Quang Ho know that those old hardened paint encrusted brushes are not a lost cause. Chroma make a product called Chroma Incredible Brush Cleaner, which will release dried hardened paint - oil or acrylic, it doesn't matter - and give you back a completely usable brush again. I've used it on brushes that sat in the discard pile for a couple of years. It's not a solvent, not flammable, just a super-suffectant. (It will also strip off the Nickel plating from cheaper brush ferules.) Great video full of useful tips.

I use Suave Argon hair oil to clean & condition the brushes. It pulls excess paint out of the brush that you might have missed with just soap & water. You can leave it on the brushes too to condition. .

@@RosemaryCoArtistBrushes absolutely! I have already shared to one of my pages. It's exactly my process, except (based on recommendations from the Painting Best Practices page) I use linseed, or walnut, or a combo of those, only artist-grade oils instead of cooking oil. My brushes are *precious* to me (you know how I feel about my brushes!) They're worth it! This will be great to share with students also. Thank you both!

You can use acetone to clean those ones that have hardened up! Then recondition it. I use the Mona Lisa pink soap for conditioning usually.

I have an issue... all my brush are frayed. I have purchased Rosemary brushes Ivory and eclipse. Contacted Rosemary and they replaced, as thought could be a manufacture issue. Well it happened again. All my brushes are frayed not just my Rosemary. They told me not to use mineral sprits. Did clean per your advice. What could I be doing wrong as so frustrated to not have brushes that work. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you

That appears to be a paint tray, the kind one would use when using a paint roller to paint a wall. The angled ramp with the bumps is where you roll off excess paint after dipping the roller in the trough. Just as there are different size paint rollers, there are different size paint trays. Your local hardware or paint supply store will stock them.

Will it not gonna have molds or algae in the long run of i use vegetable oil?
@fullpreteristnow
@fullpreteristnow 4 года назад
No, your oil is not going to mold, and you can also change it often-it's very inexpensive. I never use it to cook with, but purchase a large container from Costco. If I'm painting in an area that I can't use terps, I just have a jar of oil, since oil dissolves oil paints and as Quang says, it conditions brushes (especially natural hair).
@RosemaryCoArtistBrushes
@RosemaryCoArtistBrushes 4 года назад
I also asked Quang for you on this: He said if you don't paint for a long period of time it could be a problem - but you will find that the oil does need changing out occasionally because the pain will build up at the bottom of the tray. Hope this helps!
