Egzumer scans on whichever is highlighted A or B. Plus program your own preferences with a short press of #1 & #2 under ptt button and also a long press.
How did you go with firmware update? I've just received mine and having trouble with data not being transferred even though the radio is connected and detected via the com port.
Tried IJV for quite sometime, I like the single line mode wherein you can input "ANY" frequency with no issues, love the "gain", but , I agree with the side buttons shortcuts of Egzumer it is a life saver plus the awesomeness of having a spectrum analyzer, will wait for the updates from IJV. Thanks for the vid Ben!
Straight to point(s), have a sub. Sticking with Egzumer for now, you've saved me the time trying IJV. Great little gadgets and appreciate all the community effort to improve them.
Very helpful and timely. Had mine about a week and ready to dig out my old programming cable and install the Egzumer FW. Was exploring the UVMod site, using the firmware patcher to generate a version. Comparing the UVMod to Egzumer and others would be very helpful too. Thanks. Subscribed.
With egzumer you can program the side buttons eg F1Short, F1Long F2 etc. Its handy to change Mode by allocating 'Switch Demodul' to either F1 or F2 buttons.
Thank you. You saved me a lot of time and efford. I will just use the radio as a scanner and not transmit. Over here in DL we have very strict rules about spurious emissions. 73s
Just ordered my K5 from AliExpress just trying to get my head around the firmwares, looks like its going to take me a while, just as well I'm retired !
I've bought expensive radio scanners and never received a firmware update. I bought a £15 Quanshang and get regular firmware updates for free, wow ! You can't beat that, I'm just waiting for what Quanshang is going to follow up with next, a digital model ?
its also happends when you use the ijv filmware when you start scanning it start scanning on the frequentie you didt selected, same with transmit it transmit on the frequentie you didt select
great comparison, thank you very much! What settings do I have to make to See the channel name and frequency in channel mode? If I remember correctly, only name or frequency is possible with my ezgumer FW...
Thanks, and glad you found it useful. Hopefully some of my other videos may help with your question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kZ1i7YP05hQ.htmlsi=dU2gxUc1GeV6Hnre ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--g7glWEVpdw.htmlsi=rFTtAE_wwTtrrfKS
Yeah I do like the CEC firmware. I've done a separate video on the SSTV operating: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iHDqMddaVHo.htmlsi=6R1QMcXH19L1G9uv
What is the "bandwidth" setting for? (Narrow, wide, wide+, etc.). Are these just channel widths? If so, how do you determine the appropriate channel width for a certain frequency?
Doesn't the Egzumer have that "secret menu" when you press ptt and the button underneath when you turn it on and you can unlock transmit on all frequencies?
Yes it does and I've demonstrated it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--g7glWEVpdw.htmlsi=SOIp3R6Wr8QGmVb2 However it's highly recommend not to TX on frequencies that the radio isn't designed for. Do both models have the Egzumer firmware Spectrum Scope? I've only seen it on the yellow UV-K5(8) screen model, but I prefer the blue screen UV-5R PLUS model so I wondered if the Scope will work on it also. Thanks.
The UV-K5, UV-K5(8) and the UV-5R Plus are all basically the same radio just cosmetically different, so yes you could have the Egzumer firmware with spectrum scope on the UV-5R Plus with the blue screen.
Hello Ben, great video. I have one question. How did you save the CB radio frequencies on the device? I tried this via CHIRP but I always get the error message that the frequency is not supported. Can you help with that? Thanks in advance.
@@Ratchet_effect Can you elaborate? I have been searching for 2 days and these comments are the only mention of fixing this other than an old dev conversation from a year ago about a different firmware. Any help is appreciated!!
Tried a few versions of IJV and really like the single channel screen BUT I have found an issue with all versions. Power settings are not read properly from the code plug - import from CHIRP and all High power settings show on screen as Low - change power level on radio to show High when downloaded to CHIRP they show as Low. This is a major issue. Also there are no contact details to report the problem.
Thanks for watching and commenting. We have to remember that all of the 3rd party firmwares are developed and shaed for experimental purposes by individuals who create them in their own time, some of whom are on the social media pages such as the Facebook forums etc..
Great video Ben i would like to ask you which firmware transmit at 27 am fm usb ? every time i have reinstall configuration and calibration or just flash any firmware I want thank you
Unfortunately it's not possible to get it to transmit correctly on 27Mhz in any mode (FM, AM or SSB) The radios internal amplifiers are only designed to work within certain VHF and UHF frequencies. Although Unlock TX in the firmware will give out a few microwatts (not even milliwatts!) On 27Mhz the rest of the RF power will come out at much higher power on various VHF frequencies. See my other video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BE2Y7V2tGMM.htmlsi=b0fyKPd3xYljOYg1
One of the first things I noticed when I did the Egzumer v0.22 upgrade: the option to select a decent length for the backlight to stay on. The original firmware only allowed a maximum of five seconds. ☺ I flashed it with Microsoft Edge (not Chrome) and it worked fine. I've played safe and set it to tx on amateur bands only. An observation is that mine won't tx in USB - I just get an error message. I hoped I might be able to use it for 2m SSB. :-( Thanks for putting this up! ♥ Mark GØOIW
Hey, just an noobie here. I found an online patcher that allows me to play around with some more tx options but none to lock on amateur band only, I think, unless it's called something else sometimes? 😅 Anyway, how did you manage to lock (using egzumer) to tx only on amateur ham? Thanks in advance!
@@LeHunkyDoryUsing Egzumer, you need to go into the hidden menu. Switch off the radio, hold down the PTT and function 1 button on the side and switch on. That will give you access to extra menu items (function 61 and above) which include various options including the ability to lock tx to amateur bands in different parts of the world.
@@LeHunkyDory Item 61 "F lock" is the one you need. Sets the TX frequency band plan. DEFAULT+ (137-174, 400-470) - allows TX on default bands, plus options Tx 200, Tx 350, Tx 500 FCC HAM (144-148, 420-450) CE HAM (144-146, 430-440) GB HAM (144-148, 430-440) (137-174, 400-430) (137-174, 400-438) DISABLE ALL - disables TX on all frequencies UNLOCK ALL - enables TX on all bands
Yes, If you checkout this previous video at 29 mins I show the hidden menu 61 (on Egzumer) where you can select what you like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--g7glWEVpdw.htmlsi=3zrvCP8W317W4N7n
So what’s the real distance from handheld to handheld how far away can you get from each other with it and how about in a 10 story building will work inside the building from downstairs to 10th floor?
Hi, it would really depend on the construction of the building and any local RF interference within the building, but it should be fine. As for distance, that really depends on the terrain. In open air and line of sight I'd imagine about 5 miles on VHF.
Hi. To be honest on GMRS frequencies it really doesn't matter. I personally still prefer the menu layout of the Egzumer firmware, but it's down to personal preference. Thanks for watching 👍
I have a UV-K5(8) (your right model) and have bought usb baofeng cable with CH320 com chip: installed with good driver. Have difficulties with latest Quansheng FWupdate software (language not recognized) So I have Installed "k5prog_win_v1.27.exe", put the cable, push PTT+switch ON of update mod, (led on ) on the K5.. but the software close for missing response from the radio. I cannot understand why. Any help? Is there a menu option on the radio that block the update/serial cable?
I've not come across that problem, sorry. If you have Facebook there's a great and helpful community out there on several dedicated Quansheng pages that can usually help.
@@m7frs272 RESOLVED: I've discharged the wrong (K6) FW. Now the upload is working. The Programmer from Quansheng has already problem with my PC (chinese language....) but CHIRP is working even if there are some errors in the report/print of the parameters they have to correct.
Hi, "II" is showing that particular channel is is scan group 2. If a channel is in scan group 1 it will show "I" or nothing at all if its not assigned to any scan group. I think it does the same in most firmware versions to be honest. Thanks for watching 👍
The harmonics issue is only a problem if you try and transmit out of the frequency range that the radio is originally designed for. So basically it's fine for VHF over 137Mhz & UHF upto 470Mhz. Just don't try and TX on CB (27Mhz) 6m & 4m Ham bands etc... Thanks for watching 👍
I want the frequencies and the modes open in the firmware since I plan on changing the hardware filters and amplifier stages to work properly on 10 and 6 meters. I already have plenty of 2 meter, 70 cm HT's. It's a bit of work, especially adding antennas that will work on those bands, but it will be a lot of fun, and that's what ham radio is all about. But the firmware is beyond me, so I'm just waiting for firmware that will do the job.
Just calibrate with signal generator (like TinySA eg) with IJV (as far as I know the only fw with which tuneable) and you don't need anything. 6 and 10 metres is sensitivity less than 127dB, which is very good i think !
It seems both Egzumer and Quansheng Dock are both all but dead, no work being done on them at all, seems issues with Chirp and other issues are at place ;) Anyway, I am using the IJV 3.14 and it is simply amazing, like a whole new radio, plug killer Chirp integration
I did try it but it bricked both of the radios when I tried to flash it, so flashed them both back. I'll have to experiment more and maybe that's for a future video. Thanks for watching.
Anyone have the uv-k5 (99)? According to Amazon it is the most recent version of the UV-K5 series radio with only cosmetic differences. Can anyone verify this? Can it be modded?
I tried to get some on Amazon and EBay (USA sales) and they took so long I canceled them. I ordered straight from china from a reputable dealer and got it quickly!!! Amazon doesn’t even sell the latest one (with blue screen)
I did the same, prefer the blue screen. I have just bought a plus version (£7 ion Ali exp) just for the larger battery and intend to swap the internal board over so I get the blue screen on my 5(8). I know it has no USBC for charging, but that’s fine I rarely use that anyway. 😊
You are 100% correct. It's fine for receiving but definitely should not be used for transmitting out of the frequencies It's designed for. Thanks for watching 👍
That may be a bit far fetched, however the interference WILL be caused within the airband frequencies causing disruption and difficulties with voice communication and navigation aids on board. Don't forget, aircraft and A/G stations use minimal power to communicate (about 1w) so a few Watts out of a handheld on the wrong frequency could cause serious issues. I've done another video highlighting this if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BE2Y7V2tGMM.htmlsi=NH9sw5cqFYET9_yL
Interference! The harmonics are so so LOW and the transmitters from Air Control and the Cockpit are far more powerful to override any interference... @@m7frs272
Highlighting differences in firmware versions on different UV devices is somewhat awkward. Every firmware mod is different as are prices for groceries in different shops. You can fill hundreds of videos with these comparisons, basically comparing apples and oranges.
