I was at Ollie's today, saw this combo for $40. I questioned the brand but will definitely go back to purchase this after your review. Thanks for changing my mind!
Nice. It's tough to find affordable baitcasters so I'd say go for it! I'd test the reel out & make sure everything seems to be functioning right before you buy it though, because I've got a fishing reel from ollies before that ended up being a bit defective.
@@dropbackdilley Nice! Might want to upgrade to something a little higher end eventually, but I'd say it's a great setup to learn on & get started with 👍
Nice man! I was stuck on spinning setups for years, but there's definitely a time & place for both. I'm still using the reel from this setup on a regular basis & it's one of my favorites 👍
Honestly this casts really nice. I have a $120 combo and this can cast almost double the length. The rod is also really sensitive I can feel every rock, branch as my lure goes on the bottom
That's awesome! Can't complain about getting great performance out of a budget setup. I actually picked up a few of these since they were so cheap where I got them & I've had pretty good luck with all but one of the reels & I think I'm what caused the issues with that one lol.
I just picked up a medium heavy 7'0 combo for cheap at Alli's. I got it for drop shoting. The only thing I am weary of is that it's a 2 piece, but I guerrilla glued them together into one piece. I am only running 10 lbs test fluorocarbon on it; so hopefully it holds up for at least a year. I do have more significantly a whole more expensive combos I use with heavier line and Aluminum framed reels.
Nice! I know a lot of people dislike 2 piece rods, but I've owned plenty and have had no problem with most of them. How's the setup from Ollie's holding up so far?
@@stormshadow3087 Hmm, that surprises me. I think Ollie's might sometimes get defective products because I've bought a 202 reel there before that the gears were shot in before I even got a chance to use it. I've got several of these reels though & all but one still functions as expected even after months of use
I received this combo as a Christmas present. Never used a baitcaster before. I'm having trouble with casting. Any tips? I am not sure if I am doing it wrong or if I ended up getting a malfunction one.
Nice! It's a great setup to start out with. I actually like mine better than some of my higher end, more expensive ones. You probably just don't have your settings dialed in right. Since you're just learning I'd recommend setting your brake dial to somewhere between 7 & 9, and you'll adjust your tensioner nob every time you change lures. For tension, tighten it just tight enough so that if you hit your spool release, your bait falls freely, but your line doesn't over-spool once the bait hits the water. If you drop your lure straight down into the water in front of you, it should slowly sink once it hits the water, but your line should stay tight on the spool, not blow out into a birds nest. Hopefully that helps!
