Sonata in D Major, R. 84 by Padre Antonio Soler (1729-1783)
After I uploaded Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata in D major, K 535 to this channel, a special friend who is also my music mentor and like a second mother to me recommended that I look into the music of Padre Soler.
Padre Soler was a Spanish priest, monk, composer harpsichordist, organist, inventor and mathematician. As a composer, he is best known for his many keyboard sonatas strongly influenced by Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) with whom he studied in Madrid.
As a boy, he was educated at the choir school of Montserrat and at an early age was made chapelmaster at Lérida Cathedral. In 1952 Soler joined the Order of St. Jerome in 1752 and became organist at the Monasterio del Escorial, where he remained for the rest of his life. He was one of the most notable keyboard performers of his time and taught both organ and harpsichord.
