I landed in writing as a full-time thing because of health, making it impossible for me to work a conventional job, but it doesn't, yet, pay me full time. So completely understand wanting to stick with it as a side fun money thing!
If I was in the position you were in, I definitely would probably make it more of a priority. Or if I was able to make 2-4x the amount I make from my current job often enough that I could put a sizable chunk in an account I only accessed for emergencies. There's always exceptions, I think. Just... At this moment in time, in my current condition, it's not feasible. And it definitely took a lot of pressure to start thinking that way.
You know, i do goals and plan to do the goals... But then i just throw them out and run around like a chicken. Nightshifts are very rough. Hope you reached your goals
I feel the throwing them out. I keep side-eyeing my kanban board and I'm like... I have no idea what to do with you... I think it's time to admit that it just doesn't work for me.
I can sympathize with the full-time thing. I've always been told I could "make a living off of my artwork" but the volatility of creative jobs like that doesn't sit well with me. Some people can do it and good for them. Not for me lol. As with your writing, I do my art for me and sometimes do commissions. I can't imagine feeling forced to do it every day, all the time.
Oh, yes! Especially since I can't bring myself to the mindset of "this is a job and needs to be done daily". I might consider differently once I've built up a bigger backlist and have a more consistent publishing schedule. Definitely couldn't do it as any other kind of creative though. I can't imagine doing artwork daily... Unless I was just doing artwork to create stickers... Hmmm... This brings up another point I might need to make a video about...
I haven't interacted with the stream poll because I wouldn't be participating so have no input for it. I can't see myself doing any more writing in May than I did in April (which was so very few days).
So.... for your 25 books target, how many do you actually have left to read? NOT how many stories have you consumed. How many books have you read? If I counted the web comics because I'm reading the words on the pictures, I'd be around 3400 chapters, but actual books, I'm at 0. :(
I just filmed a short answering this, and I'll have a video coming out in the next couple of months with an in-depth look at my reading logs. 😉 Long answer short, completed books. I keep on-going stories under the "currently reading" category.
