I had to upload this as i've never seen such a pinsetter before, quite amazing to watch, mostly from its simplicity..
Trivia from Wikipedia:
The Mendes company produced a magnetic pinsetter known as the MM-2001. It featured a flat magnetic pin table and magnets on the head of each pin. It had a pit similar to the AMF and an elevator similar to the GSX. Pin loading involves the combination of a carousel and magazine. The company claimed this technology reduces stops in play due to table jams on out-of-range pins. Mendes was bought out by Qubica, which sold the machine as the MAG3 until its partnership with AMF.

I have been working with 82-30s, Gs-X and the Mendes machine, we bought these 2001, they are extremely fond of being taken care of and not very forgiving. The booking program that mendes sold was incomplete from the beginning (one important feature it misses is the "replay" function from the deskcomputer), which makes the deskstaffs lifes so much more interesting.

The world's first computer controlled pinsetter and perhaps the most complicated ever made. No wonder Mendes went under with how complicated these things are.

I really like the way the horizontal rows of pins slide into place. Sorry to hear that these machines are such a pain to run.

I work in a center which installed the Mendes version of these machines in 2001. They are different, but very irritable and can be glitchy at time. When I worked on the old A-2's, I might get 4-5 calls on a busy night. With these things if I get fewer than 15 it was a good night. Since the upgrade to the new AMF software that is being used on the MAG3 machines, we've had communication issues and problems with individual parts of the machine stopping (i.e. sweeps don't move, ball doors inop, etc.). The new software has issues with the old hardware/firmware. Overall, they are easy to maintain and nice to work on, but a pain to work with.

It's very interesting of how the pinspotter has a magnet and picks up the pins that way! :D

That is really cool. But the thing is HUGE! I can't imagine running 30 or 40 of them at a time.

Crazy machine, but I suppose you got to start somewhere trying to develope an auto pinsetter. Thanks for this unusual upoload.

Just look at all those moving parts that need maintaining and adjusting.

Wildfire Lanes has changed to Wildfire Lanes & Casino, and they changed the pinsetters from Mendes to Brunswick GSX.

Actually, Qubica bought the rights to the AMF pinsetters. I think they want to put the computer from the mendes machine on the AMF Chassis

Now Qubica ans AMF are an unique manufacturer called QubicaAMF (obviously), I think that pinsetter are not a good choisie because it have a lot of moving parts. I think it is the reason of Qubica to link with AMF ans uses AMF models :) But I prefer the GS-X.

Yeah but if you think about it the A2 had lots of moving parts and they are still very reliable

Always amazed me how much louder these things were compared to the A2.. don't know who hated them more the bowlers or the people who had to work on them. Any time any jam took place the pin light would go out and the ball lights flashed.. distracting..

At least with Brunswick GS when they blackout, the red light in the back flashes and not the Ball Lights. I would go nuts hearing this pinsetter jamming while making that loud banging noise which was much louder than an AMF Pin Jam that I've heard and seen at my local center.

The original Qubica Magnetic Pensetters, way before they bought out/joined AMF

bloody pieces of junk. Now you know why Mendes went under and bought out by Qubica, then when that went under AMF bought them out and thank god AMF has its own damn good pinsetter.

Even though I love Free Fall Pinsetters and not stupid Strings, this has got to be the worst pinsetter and even the GS-Series can run much better than this.
