Thank you for watching! The reason I titled the video “Queen Alexandra of Denmark”, is become in some documentaries I’ve watched, the presenter has called her “Queen Alexandra of Denmark” since that’s where she was born. Similar to how Eleanor of Aquitaine is called that instead of Queen Eleanor of England.
Royal nomenclature is quite specific - she was Queen of the UK,born Princess of Denmark.Royal women and aristocrats take on the rank and title of their husbands if the husbands are Royal or aristocratic ( even if of a lower rank than their own birth rank) and maintain their birth titles only if their husbands are non royal, or not aristocrats, although they maintain their Royal honorifics either way eg.HRH Princess Margaret, the Countess of Snowdon.Eleanor Of Aquitaine is a descriptor and not a title. She was never known as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.Despite this some queens are better known by their descriptors , such as Eleanor ,or even their birth names rather than their actual title eg Anne Boleyn, (although she was actually Queen Anne of England). This is by many hundreds of years of historical precedent , and is often earned by noteriety or special historical significance.
I love Queen Alexandra. It's amazing to me how they were relatively unknown and then BAM! She's a queen, her brothers are kings, and her sister became an empress.
Queen Victoria generally approved of Alix but was highly critical of her ‘hands on motherhood’. Upper class women in those days saw their children for 1 hour of the day maximum before they were handed back to the nannies/nursemaids. Alexandra not only fed her children personally, she bathed them too and put them to bed herself ( totally unheard of in high class circles, and it didn’t get much higher class than the Princess of Wales). The embodiment of kindness, Alexandra imo was the sweetest queen England has ever had (though Queen Adelaide was also known for the gentleness and kindness of her disposition).
If you read my recent comment on here, concerning her abandoned illegitimate eldest son, in 1862, her maternal care for her children is easier to understand xx
@@sweethistorteaplease read my recent post concerning her eldest illegitimate and abandoned son, which provides an explanation for the devotion Alexandra had for her children, as well as explain actions and events concerning this family, that until now, have remained hidden xx
Princess Alexandra of Denmark married the son of Queen Victoria who in 1901 became King Edward VII of The United Kingdom. Princess Alexandra then became The Queen (Consort - like Queen Camilla). She was known as Queen Alexandra of The UK - not of Denmark.
Thanks for watching! I’ve heard Alexandra be called “Queen Alexandra of Denmark” a few times before since that’s where she was born, so that’s why I made that the video title. 😆
Thank you for watching! ❣ When I was gathering images and doing research for the video, a few other people also said that Alexandra looked a bit like Diana.
Alexandra married the Prince of Wales, who had to wait a long time to become King (just like Charles). Edward had a mistress who happened to be a ancestor of Camilla. History repeats itself.
Could you please do some research on how to pronounce things before posting your videos? These videos are very interesting, providing a perspective that others don’t, but you really should do some research on how to pronounce the names included.
Thank you for watching ! This video is from when I used a text to speech program for my videos before I started using my real voice. When I made these videos at the time, the program would say the word how it was spelt rather then how it was actually pronounced. Now that I use my real voice, I do my best to learn the names of places and people. ☺️
"Queen Alexandra of Denmark" ??? No, Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, Empress of India. And yes, Alexandra of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Princess of Denmark
Thanks for watching. When I titled my video that way, it was because I had heard in some RU-vid videos call Alexandra, "Queen Alexandra of Denmark" and in others just "Alexandra of Denmark" in reference to her being from Denmark rather then her being Queen of that country. I didn't think it was incorrect.😅
How annoying the robotic voice. It has always amazed me that George V and his wife, Queen Mary, were very strict and not very affectionate parents. George V said that he wanted his children to fear him which they did, considering that George V's parents, Edward VII, and his mother, Queen Alexandra, were both very loving and very hands-on. Even his grand-father, Prince Albert, was strict perhaps but also very loving. Ah! sometimes the apples fall very far from the tree.
Thank you for watching! The robotic voice was from before I used my real voice in videos, but I don’t use it anymore. I also find it funny that Edward VII was a serial womanizer and very excessive, whereas George V was a lot more quiet, loyal to his wife, and more down to earth. You’re right about the apple falling. 😆
She was not Queen Alexandra of DENMARK as your title proclaims - she was Princess Alexandra of Denmark and became QUEEN Alexandra when she married the man who became KING Edward 7th of England. Please research before you embark on a story!
Thanks for watching. When I titled my video that way, it was because I had heard in some RU-vid videos call Alexandra, "Queen Alexandra of Denmark" and in others just "Alexandra of Denmark" in reference to her being from Denmark rather then her being Queen of it. I didn't think of it as incorrect.😅
@@sweethistortea you are right, through murder. Her second son died in his 20s, if I'm correct. I thought the comparison you made in the video was death due to illness. Both sisters lost their sons through health issues, Alexandra lost Albert Victor due to FL, Marie lost her son due to TB
@karenryder6317 Who said she ever loved Prince Eddie? They were engaged, not married. (The engagement was arranged) Her marriage to George V was also arranged. Queen Victoria decided that her son's son (her grandson) was going to marry Mary of Teck. It was said that George V and "May" had a happy marriage and that they were very supportive of each other. They had six children (5 boys and one daughter)
It had nothing to do with being a cheapskate. I just wasn’t comfortable at the time using my real voice. I use it now, but at the time the program was the best way I could do the voiceovers.
