The Queen and members of the Royal Family appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the scheduled flypast take place.
The six-minute flypast of more than 70 aircraft featured Apache helicopters, Typhoons and the Red Arrows as part of the first day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery also fired a 82-gun salute in Hyde Park in honour of the Queen following the Trooping the Colour parade.

Makes me proud as an ex Army lad myself and knowing my Grandad is buried in France, shot down as a Lancaster pilot flying back from a bombing run, to still see and hear those beautiful RR Merlin engines and see the Queen remember those same sounds. Those sounds were the sounds of the strength and unity of our little island and our people. God bless and God save our Queen.

It was my absolute privilege to stand beneath that Lancaster bomber at IWM Duxford last summer as it was being repaired…the skill it takes! The spitfires are the absolute epitome of Britishness. And the Red Arrows as always … spectacular! I was struck by the poise and elegance of the spouses of the Princes and Princess … all commoners and all doing an amazing job. Congratulations Ma’am

As both an Italian and British citizen I take great pride in seeing the 2 Giugno (Republic Day in Italy) and HM’s diamond jubilee parade on the same day. Don't forget the Hurricane this was the real workhorse of the war and the RAF there were a dam site more Hurricanes then Spitfires in the Battle of Britain and they were easier to repair then send into battle again. The Spitfires name captured the imagination of the nation hence why it was remembered more. Both look similar too hence the confusion between the two planes. But the Spitfire is a great plane

Feel very proud seeing the Lancaster bomber my grandfather was a rear gunner who after the war joined the British police and lived in Harare ,he was on the Queens protection detail twice in her early reign

The Queen was just a very young lady during and serving in WWII....the Lancaster and the Spitfire and the Hurricane sure put a smile on her face.....those were her favorite planes no doubt about it.....she still remembers their sounds......God save the Queen

They should have brought a mighty Vulcan out of retirement, that would have been a real thrill for everyone. This type of celebration makes one very proud. My father was a Lancaster navigator and he would have been thrilled to see that grand old warrior take to the skies again.

Legitimate question, no snark! Can someone from the UK answer this for me please...Shouldn't Catherine and William have changed places on the balcony, or doesn't it matter? I thought HMTQ, Charles, and Prince William would be standing together with Prince George near HMTQ - four generations of monarchs (and future) together. As an American Idk royal protocol. TIA.

They all look lovely. But I must say Camilla‘s outfit is fabulous and notice she steps over in order for Charles to stand beside his mother instead of her, she is truly a blessing to this family. Camilla had a rough go of it but came through it and will be a marvelous Queen Consort!
