7:51 Ok, here it goes. Queen Charlotte and King George the Third had 15 children in total (I think it was something like 9 sons and 6 daughters). Two of their sons died before they turned five - in the same year (stories spread that George kept on talking to them like they were there afterwards) - and though the other 13 lived to adulthood (which was not always guaranteed back then) their youngest daughter died in her mid-twenties (re the scene in season 1 when Charlotte mentioned Amelia - George called her Emily in that scene). The woman who just died is Queen Charlotte and King George's granddaughter, also called Charlotte, who died giving birth to a son who was a stillborn. The man who's crying over her is her father and George and Charlotte's eldest child, George the Prince Regent (declared so because his father was considered mentally unfit to rule) and future King George the Fourth (regarded as something of a joke by history). He nearly famously hated his wife Caroline whom who only agreed to marry because Parliament agreed to pay off his debts if he did (re the joke comment earlier) and was always looking for a reason to legally divorce her, but from what I can tell genuinely loved their daughter - though I've also heard he prevented her mother from becoming too involved in her life - so his crying over her is genuine. Apparently she was a lot more popular with the public than her father or grandfather was. Her death, along with the death of her baby, spells trouble for the royal family because though George will leave the crown to George when he dies, or to one of his younger surviving children if George has died before he does, there's no-one to leave the crown to when the all eventually die. If none of the 13 of them have a legitimate child to leave the throne to in the event of their or their siblings death then when the last of them dies they'll have to start looking for the nearest distant cousin to take the throne, and that's very seldom been a smooth transition - in fact that's the only reason their family became the kings and queens of England. Queen Anne, the last queen before the George's started, had 17 children but they all died (the longest living one died when he was 11), so she left the crown to her distant cousin George of Hannover in Germany, and he became George the First. Apparently there were something like 40 cousins who were more closely related to her but they were all catholic and George was a protestant so he was the only one anyone would consider because they didn't want a catholic king (the number of deaths that have occurred over the two religions - I'm not denying what Bloody Mary did or what the Catholic Church has done all over the world for centuries and continue to do today, nor their treatment of Protestants in Europe, I'm just also not denying that the Protestant Church has committed many of the same atrocities all over the world, nor their treatment of Catholics in Anglo countries......)

LOVE your reaction! At the end, it’s not that Charlotte doesn’t care about her children but they are all adults, older adults by this point and the boys in particularly are libertines. The Monarchy is always in jeopardy and at this time it wasn’t that long ago that the Stuart line failed for lack of an heir and they had to go through 50 members of the royal families of Europe to find someone which is why we ended up with the Hanover family from Germany and all the George’s. This is literally their job.

Yes, yes, yes. I love everything but the fact that they address race relations thrills me. They don't avoid the elephant in the room. They show black woman strength and grace in their "experiment.". They show male ego and fragility. The fragile king held up by his queen. Lady Danbury's husband was condescending to her but elevated by her role. How the Lord Ledger prays upon widows is a jab to the heart...so hurtful he hides behind his civility. Seems he gives all of the widows an eggplant gift wrapped in a birthday hat. How Lady Danbury choose not to serve another man but lift her son up to become lord of her household to maintain her estate.
