An amazing head of state - though it seems ridiculous to have a monarchy - I couldn't imagine anyone else carrying off the job with a greater sense of dignity and a steadier hand. A very measured and wise presence to have on have on the world stage.

What a.fantastic person.

It's better to have her as head of state than politicians who have their own political and personal agendas. Quite interesting too as myself living my entire life in a republic. I see no difference at all as I deem to see presidents as 'elected' monarchs themselves. They too live in luxury, get the best of everything, heck they even cost more than a monarch, and even has executive power (the queen doesn't possess this). Presidents do not represent a nation, they represent a mere party. As there doesn't seem to be any better alternative system of government around, I see a constitutional monarchy - democracy is far better than a republic. Democracy? Too fragile in a republic, one swing at authoritarianism then it's poof. There's nothing or no one who can remove the head of the government at whim. Violence is required to overthrow it. So, having a queen is not so bad. A little bit of connection between fiction and reality, and an anchor to keep politicians in line and in their place. Besides, she's done a great job. There hasn't been any leader or a country without issues, stop looking for utopia.

My father met the queen, after ww2. They had just won the war, and my father was chosen to represent USA. He held her hand for quite a long time as they walked along the greeting line.

I wouldmt be surprised if she lives to 100. Seems very stromg even tho is slowling down. Old folks are amazing! Respect!

If my math is right I would have been a bit shy of 8 when Elizabeth was crowned. I have clear memory of watching the ceremony on B&W TV and my father (who had been to sea during WW2 in a small ship) was amazed we could watch it only 8 hours later.

Celebrating a monarch, even a benevolent one, to me is disrespectful of any people in a democracy. I am glad that, as a human being, she is alive and well.
